Hi everyone, I have been having issues starting up the engines from cold and dark. I have been following the checklists and have made doubly sure that I am in the correct position to start the engines but everytime I try to fire them up, though they may ignite, after a few seconds they just shut off. I did make sure I followed the correct 3, 4, 2, 1 procedure too. I am not really sure what I could be doing wrong. Anybody have any suggestions?

  7. Started by generale84,

Hi We know that INS have 9 recordable waypoints. My question is, when approaching the n°9 WYPT if I re-inser on WYPT n°1 a new waypoint, after 9 it flight again to the "new" 1 WYPT? I know that a DC-8 tool could be use manage more of 15 waypoint but I want to do this in more realistic mode.

I did the math last night and compiled a PFPX aircraft template from the limited amount of performance charts I could find for the DC-8. That being said, its 5:30am here and was able to run it through pfpx; however, have not had the time to actually test fly with the numbers it generates. Therefore, use at your on risk. If anyone has any feedback please feel free to share. Furthermore, If anyone has come across some "holding" and "descent" performance charts please let me know and I will incorporate them as well. P.S. It will be next Tuesday before I get the chance to test fly myself. Also, don't forget to input the minimum fuel required at des…

Hi everybody i just bought the fantastic DC-8 package....after a first test flight/circuit around an airfield, i must say i am pretty impressed by the quality of the plane... As i was planning on doing some repaints, i wanted to do by painting the full fuselage first, as i was used from other aircrafts. but the paintkit in the dc-8 is different. does anybody knows a good tutorial on how to repaint this one, also, is there any possibility to close the windows in the visual model, as i wanted to paint a cargo version... many thanks Marc

Is the inclusion of the Doppler navigation device planned, very common before the advent of the INS? The system was developed in the 707 captain sim. It would be great to have this type of navigation system as well.

  15. Oddly enough I came across this PDF from Boeing. it has some info on a variety of DC-8 models, including takeoff runway length vs. weight/altitude for the DC-8-55, and DC-8-55F info too: https://www.boeing.com/resources/boeingdotcom/commercial/airports/acaps/dc8.pdf

    1) Occasionally during the flight the anemometer resets temporarily (I guess it is the simulation of the icy pitot) despite the pitot heat turned on. It's normal? 2) the initial climb, after having retracted the flaps, even at high take-off weights, can easily reach 3500 ft / min below 10000ft. Is it correct or is there too much power? Naturally I set the maximum thrust of climbing: for example with RAT +40 I have EPR 1.52.

  17. Hi Michael, first of all, thank you very much for the FSX version! While checking if my repaints are working fine with the FSX version, I noticed that the exterior model has almost no reflections. It looks as if the alpha channel is ignored by the exterior model. For a test I copied the exterior model of the P3Dv4 version into FSX and the reflections were back. Maybe you could take a look if there is an error in the FSX exterior model. Thanks a lot Greetings Tim

First of all , big THANK YOU for this great DC-8. I like a lot and (hand)flies very nicely. I have created an FSX keyboard button press (Ctrl+T) and a Joystivk button shortcut for the Tail Hook. Using any of the combinations the FSX-message Tailhook extanding/retracting DOES appear but 'MANFLD AIR PRESS' indication remains lit and 'Manifold Air PRess' gauge remains at 0 (both L/R) needles. Couldn't find a relevant hint in the manual All the above while EXT AIR is connected. Config: WIN 7 - FSX SP2 Kind Regards Sam P.S.: In general I prefer click spots or a 2D pop-up panel for external power/ai…

  22. Hi, first of all thank you very much for the FSX version of the DC-8! I just downloaded the installer but I always get the "wrong serial number/email" error message. It's the exact same serial number that worked well with the P3Dv4 installer. So I was wondering if there is maybe a problem with the FSX installer? Greetings Tim

Hello, just a short question: Is the DC-8 compatible with P3D V3? As "Micheal2" wrote in an earlier post back in October it should be, but on the aerosoft store page it is only available for FSX and P3D V4. Greetings, Sarius

This isn't a tech support post. This is just a story-type post for those interested in INS flight. I just completed a trans-pacific flight (RJAA to KLAX) in the DC-8. I of course used the INS for navigation, as I was far away from any VOR's. So I had more than 9 waypoints, a topic which has come up on this forum before. I did not enter 9 into one box, and 9 in the other...that's not good practice. So, what I did was, enter the first nine (9) waypoints in the INS (both INS's, using the REMOTE key). Those nine waypoints got me to 170 degrees West latitude. A little over halfway. Shortly before reaching waypoint #9 (46degN, 170deg W), I ensured that m…
