Don and I are hoping to find someone that will take SOAR over and keep it going online. Don is recovering from 2 forms of cancer and is no longer able to be the director. Scott has been doing a wonderful job as acting Director for the last several years, but he is unable to continue due to other life commitments. We thank him so much for all his hard work with SOAR. SOAR has been thru many changes thru the years and basically now is a repository. It requires file maintenance and updating. If you are interested and want to see SOAR stay online, please contact Don or Karen at director at virtualsoaring.org

If you don't have discovered yet: FSX Real World Weather is functional again, which might be interesting for those who didn't have a weather add on yet and like the smooth updates of the built-in online weather of FSX. Presumably this is a consequence of the relaunch of FSX on Steam platform. Bests, Peter

Hello I'm just back from a wonderful week at the York Gliding Club based at Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire - highly recommended. The weather was kind to me, but in case it isn't the club has a computer running FSX SP2 on Windows XP Home Edition SP3. They've set up a superb 3-panel display with 3 projectors and linked FSX to a proper full-sized two-place cockpit. The physical stick, rudders, airbrake and gear all link to sensors that feed into FSX. All working well. I was asked to assist with the errors they are getting when trying to install/run WinchX and CumulusX. They've got the latest versions of each but neither installs (or runs) properly. As I know from…

Hi guys, I bought FSX just a week ago. Played around with it a bit (mostly getting it to run smoothly). Downloaded cumulusX! as soon as I got word of it. Since then I only sat in a Cessna for checking out graphics settings. Soaring is the way to go for me! I fooled around with Fly! back in around 2000 or so. Really enjoyed flighing that simulator. Too bad I could not fly sailplanes in that sim. So I was really happy to find out, after picking up my first flight sim since 10 years or so, that FSX featured thermals and ridgelift. It was a downer that they were static and only appeared in a few scenarios (ridgelift). Oh joy for CumX! Should be in tomorrow morning. Ho…

Are there any books that would be helpful for someone who has no experience with computer games or soaring simulators? What equipment is needed? How to proceed. I have done some soaring in the past, but now at 82 I'd like to see if I can get some of the feeling of flying a sailplane without leaving my desk.

Well, it's been about a year since I left the project, so this past week I decided to load it back up into my FSX installation, without some of the extra stuff that was holding me back. First off, Don or Karen & maybe even Orange, I'm not sure I have the latest scenery files, so I'll be giving you an email in the coming days to see what I do have. Anyways, not sure how many of you (the SOAR community) fly the SOAR Ranch area, so I decided to make a video of one of my flights to show some of the proposed scenery changes, and also to show what great soaring can be done there. You can find the whole flight video over HERE. The following video is just highlights of th…

Hi pilots from all over the world , I finally have decided to build my own FSX PC ! and fly FS since 2000, always wanted a PC who can handle MAX settings because due to suffering from slow pc performance. My Bday is coming up soon and my lovely Girlfriend have said yes to a powerful FSX PC I've had enough from the slow flying and like to build my own. I done a little research on the net and found out that the Intel i7 sandy Bridge 2600k 3.4 GHz 8MB is one of the CPU's to go with. Also the Radeon HD 6850 a very good grafic card too. The CPU cooler system is one of these Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100 Extreme-Performance CPU Cooler I have …

Hello I just downloaded the WinchX, I followed everything as it says in the readme. So the bit when you have to go to modules and then double clikc on WinchX.exe I get some type of a error (0xc0000135) and then it says press ok to close the application. I tried removing it and put a new one in but it won't work again.I have FSX service pack 2. I also did it manually but still when i open FSX it doesn't ask me to open WinchX. If anyone knows anything please help. Thank You Mateusz

A lot of good it will do to mention this here, but MSFSX programmers need to be reminded that FSX is sold and flown in most of the world and that there are other regulatory agencies than merely the FAA. Just because green\white aerodrome beacons for civil airports exist in the USA, does not mean that FSX can exclude white/white rotataing aerodrome beacons and flashing white only omnidirectional aerodrome beacons regulated by German authorities, under the jurisdiction of Eurocontrol, and other jurisdictions in countries other than the USA, including Canada <smile> How about transition levels (not all at FL180), atc phraseoligy, altimeter settings (inches versu…

Does anyone have a water ballast gauge that will work with FSX? I am looking for a gauge that will indicate the status of the ballast tanks, like a fuel tank gauge in a regular airplane. I have tried using Max Roodvelt's ballast gauge for FS9 that comes with the FS9 version of his Astir CS, but it does not seem to work. I cannot get this gauge to register full tanks, nor can I get it to fill the tanks as it does in FS9. I am hoping that someone knows of a ballast tank gauge that will work with Wolfgang Piper's LS-7 W in FSX. Thanks in advance. Randy L.

Hi, here's a little progress report - so far I've got: updated Grob Astir CS flying (still needing some work in the animation dep.)updated CAI-set - with up to 10 tasks.all new gauge set to test fly the polars from the 'virtual' planes.a viewer to study those polars.a waypoints editor - to create the gps-nav.dat file from original CAI formatted *.dat files and to add up to 10 tasks.updated version of AirWrench - it now includes the ballast tanks as used by the default DG-808. and it's all working on the win7 platform. The way things are progressing it might take a month (or a little more) to take the most obvious bugs out. I'm still thinking about doing …
