As you may know, the GameSpy-powered component of Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) multiplayer was decommissioned on December 6, 2012. It is now official that GameSpy will no longer be supporting the FSX title and that users of FSX will need to turn elsewhere to connect with each other. Now that we no longer have GameSpy, we all need to act together to save our hobby and ensure multiplayer remains alive through Direct Connect. Over the past six years, many communities have relied on GameSpy to host multiplayer sessions with FSX and allow their users to connect with one another. Boston Virtual ATC (BVA), a 3500-member community that relied on GameSpy’s technology in a…

This video is for you Don, not sure where the R/C section of the SOAR Forums went to. The video takes place at some sort of glider regatta, very impressive the amount of gliders video'd there. Most of the gliders you will probably recognize from those that Wolfgang has modeled in Microsoft Flight Simulator through the years. Very impressive, and I think I saw one of the pilots using XCSoar with a glider somehow. Scott

Just want some feedback on any freeware programs like these, that would be worth registering FSUIPC for? Or does FSUIPC need to be registered to be able to use these? Is having a PDA or like instrument useful while soaring? I've got an old PDA (Palm T/X) which I can possibly only use with SoarPilot, but I don't know if I can pay $40 to $70 for registering FSUIPC for one or both FS9/FSX. So any input would be great. Pros and Cons for the software you use also would be great. sf4JC

In the past SOAR awarded achievement certificates (i.e. Silver, Gold and Diamond). However, it appears that no new awards have been made in the last several years. Is this due to discontinuance, dis-intertest, or what ? Thanks,

It now supports FS2002/FS2004/FSX. Also with this release is configurable curves and other small modifications it says. This is a face recognition type program to mimic head movement in the sim. I'll be back in a few days after I've tried it out for a short review. You can find it at http://facetracknoir...ome/default.htm . Scott Edit: Title has been corrected to reflect the real name, FaceTrackNoIR instead of FaceTrackNOIR.

10/14/11 : Had my main computer crash last week. So after rebuilding an older computer, the servers are back online for the moment (Not sure how long the older computer is going to run since it has its own problems). - - sf4JC 10/17/11 : Servers will be down for a while again. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause for those that have been using it. Needed to just make sure it wasn't the hard drive that was faulty, and now I know. It may be a while before they are back online, so please be patient. 10/22/11 : Finally was able to get the servers running I think. I believe the plan is to get a new computer running some time next week, so hopefully that will hel…

Does anyone have an LNAV_polar.dat file for Wolfgang Piper's Rolladen Schneider LS-7 that I can use with the Caiset LNAV gauge? I am currently using the .dat file that came with the gauge, but that is for an ASW20. I really love the LS-7 and that is what I have been flying mostly. I would love to get the correct LNAN_polar.dat file for this aircraft though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks... It's been so long that I needed to recover my login and password. Blame David Morris for my surprise appearance. When I saw what he did with the original SOAR Ranch, I was so amazed that I just had to stop by and see what's been going on. It's wonderful to see old friends, including other "prodigal sons"- MAX!!! You brilliant old tulip growing, wooden-shoed, cheese-headed misanthrope! How the hell are you? I have missed our occasionally hilarious conversations. :-)) CG

Just saw another thread about maybe some of us still using the FS2004/FSX default terrain (elevation) mesh. PLEASE! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR (if you have the means) and get some freeware or payware terrain mesh. It should rank HIGH (almost #1) on your todo list when you start slope soaring. Here is are just a few examples of what you would miss if just using the default... You can find freeware terrain mesh for both FS2004 and FSX at Simviation. Scott

Hi, as backup to Scott's installations I have set up an additional (experimental) 24/7 multiplayer server for FS9/FSX with FSHOST here: luerkens.homedns.org (put this into "IP Address" of your client), and port 23456. I suggest using CumulusX! MP Soaring clock settings, 8 hrs mode. It is limited to 16 simultaneous users and doesn't have voice options, currently, because of bandwidth limitations. I decided for FSHOST rather than native FSX MP, because I'd need a second FSX license and the outdated "Server"-laptop (9 W only!) wouldn't handle FSX at all. In addition, FSHOST allows simple reconnection "on the fly" (pun intended) in case of connectivity problem…

A big thank you, [bert de Bruin, Ian Forster-Lewis, Peter Luerkens] for the update on the Default DG808. I only just found it!! Not want to seem like a whinger already about free stuff, but has Yawstrings gone out of fashion? No, really, does the full seize gliding world not use them much now?[i've always used them-showing my age now] Reagrds, S

Hi there I have stumbled across this forum by accident. Could I ask the question, what is the status of the online multiplayer soaring community these days in terms of numbers and server quality? I am clueless as it has never really occurred to me before to try it out. The motivation is that the quality of the soaring experience in FSX these days is so good with the after market scenery, weather, better hardware, better sailplane models and of course because of CumulusX and WinchX. Is there a thriving community of virtual multiplayer sailplane pilots that I am missing out on or is it dead in the water? If it is dead, what killed it? Peter says that some servers hat…

Hello to all.... I am new to this forum.. but I need help I can not find. This has to do with FS-9 & CCS2004... Nothing is stated about the Weather settings inside FS-9 when using CCS-2004.. Q.1) What kind of settings inside FS-9 (custom Weather Settings) when in use with CCS2004 and Thermal Soaring..??? Q.2) Before doing the Ridge Topo Scan... am I suppose to have wind set blowing on the ridge?? If Wind settings are needed then give me a idea about the wind speed and Wind Alt.. If it requires more than one layer of Wind..?? Q.3) I have found the Mifflin, PA. Mesh and Landclass.. But no where can I find instructions of where in FS-9 this goes and…

This is technically a cross-post so apologies for that, but if you have the Aerosoft Discus please note I have produced a free 'firmware' upgrade to the SDI C4 flight computer, such that it now computes the 'FG:RTE' (Final Glide / Route) arrival height, i.e. it can now display your arrival height at the final destination around all the remaining turnpoints in the task. The upgrade also allows hotkeys or joystick buttons to be assigned to the static switch (SEGEL/MOTOR) and the cruise/climb switch (Vario/STF). The Aerosoft announcement post is here and I've written two relevant tutorial posts on the new function here B21
