FSX Soaring Videos

The following video is of a 25 minute flight from the proposed airfield and just some of the scenery that could be added to the area put together by David Morris (Orange). Feel free to join the discussion in the SOAR - FSX - General Discussion forum in the weeks to come. The flight starts out at the SOAR Ranch airfield, then flies past the proposed resort scenery. Following that, I climb to the top of the volcano and then proceed to return back down to the SOAR Ranch. An edition of HD video captures from a multiplyer memorial flight in honour of a friend and flightmate of ours, JJD, who died 30 December, 2010. My brother and I, and another friend, had been fllying regularly in Condor with JJD since October 2008. We're going to miss him a lot. The task start was the Flying X Ranch, northwest of Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, near Austin, Texas, and turnpoints were JJD's house and his church. I'm not religious, but there was a CumulusX! thermal exactly over both turnpoints! Finish was an easy final glide from cloudbase back to the Flying X. Another edition of HD video caps from a multiplayer session on 04 January, 2011. This one was a 149km thermal task around Sarnia, Ontario (CYZR), which is where my friend Kitkat lives. (kind of a guided tour for me) First time with Max's CAISet gauges in the LS-8-18. Neither of us finished, however, and landed out near the last turnpoint, me right in downtown Sarnia. I'm still getting the hang of the various views we have in FSX, but it's a little tricky to use some of them while flying. Got to watch out for that stupid mouse cursor, too. Dang!

Controlled glider tow, some slope soaring, then landing back at Dillingham. Everything used for the video is FREEWARE, other than buying FSX. Taken during local late afternoon and real-world weather conditions. Scott

Finally got around to editing this video down to 10 minutes. The tow was totally controlled and 7 minutes long with the rest of the flight slope soaring and landing back at Dillingham, HI USA. I was kindof busy that day so my time was cut short to a little over 25 minutes. If you want to see the whole 7 minutes of the tow, here it is... Scott

I don't know if this is appropriate here or not, so if it isn't then please let me know. I have created a soaring video using FSX, PlayClaw, and Roxio's VideoWave that I thought I would share. It can be found at: http://www.vimeo.com/3419160 This is a short soaring flight out of Bad Ragaz airfield, Switzerland in an LAK Genesis 2 sailplane using Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I also use a small program called "Aerotow" to select the towplane of my choice, and to get the tow plane to fly the pattern that I want. The Genesis 2 sailplane is a standard-class glider with ballast, and is one of the best freeware gliders that I have found for FSX so far. This is the very first …
