Aeroplane Heaven: This was the primary commercial (payware) release of the Fairchild C-119 'The Flying Boxcar' for FSX, FSX: Steam Edition, and Prepar3D. Originally sold for around $29.95 through distributors like Just Flight and Aerosoft, its total unit sales were never shared with the public. Later on, it was made available as freeware via Orbx. Im sure it was available as freeware due to the declining interest in flight simulation at the time but it was widely used in Flight Simulator Economy for their cargo runs as it was an economic plane to fly for a large cargo load.
Aside from payware, community-developed freeware models also exist. For instance, Mike Stone's classic C-119 model, hosted on community hubs like Fly Away Simulation, has tracked over 8,600 free downloads since its upload that were used in FSX but not MSFS, i know as i have one.
So lets do the tentative commercial math on that one shall we given that the Microsoft store for flight simulator today on MSFS 2020 and 2024 plus Steam store now reaches a larger and far wider population than it ever did for FSX.
So let us say initially potentially 8600 sales at @29.95 thats $257,570 which is not chump change and is only a starting point as the number of uses for the system will only INCREASE not decrease.
As an intro level small download would be very appealing . Given that most early and mid level pilots buy these smaller aircraft anyway.
DC-3 is a very popular model also for normal users for those that like those styles of aircraft. The DC-3 is the DC-6b trainer.
The Flight Simulator Economy already support it in their FSX and Prepare3d planes and in future in MS2020 and if developed for MSFS2024 commercial career would also support it so i personally don't see a downside or a non commercial side, you just have to look at the glass half full.
