On Saturday August 1st 2026, a Cessna Grand Caravan 208B single engine turbine propeller impacted on ground only a few nautical miles
after t/o, in Peru. 13 souls on board, 11 pax + 2 pilots, no survivors.
At the very beginning I should say something about the aviation safety statistics concerning the type

from my own records and what I know so far..
reg: OB-2001-P (aircraft registration, depicted on or near the tail fin)
route: SPSO Pisco airport - Nazca (and back), a round trip for 11 tourists and 2 pilots on board that Cessna 208 single engine turbine propeller.
Between Pisco and Nazca there are 218 km on the street, which could've comfortably have been taken in an overland bus,
2hours and 59 minutes with 70 km/h .
A Cessna 208 is very clearly faster, but only if it arrives at the arrival, SPSO Pisco never happened here in this case.
Translated into aviation language:
In a Cessna 208 you'll fly 2 x 118 nautical miles to Nazca (and back), directly calculated from 2 x 218 km on the street,
without the advantage of aviation calculated, we most of the time fly less turns than an overland bus.
236 nautical miles to Nazca and back, in a Cessna 208 with 180 knots you'll need approx. 77 minutes,
if you sit in an a/c that arrives back at SPSO Pisco on schedule, without that it breaks into pieces.
