Dirk

@GWI-Berlin

@Thorsten01

:twisted: :twisted:

Kein Köln aber Cape Canaveral Releasen LOL wer braucht denn sowas. :wink:

Sorry for the English, I do read, understand and speak German acceptable but when I write it most German speakers look at me if I am an idiot, lol. I seen a few jabs at Cape CanaveralX here today and I think the recond should be set straight.

We had Cape X ready last Friday and I only lacked the time to do good PR and press releases for it that prevented us from releasing it. It was just ready before Köln was, both in files, installer and in all other aspects. That was why we released it today. We did not release Köln today because we had some issues to sort out yet, for example getting the product page done (in 5 languages), getting good screenshots done, inform our support staff of possible issues etc. Having the files done is enough for the developer but not for the complete Aerosoft organization that needs to sell, supply and support. We also got to inform our other distributors about the pending release, provide them with the files and assist them in getting it ready for distribution. This morning the issue was discussed and we decided on a Köln release tomorrow and doing Cape Canaveral X just as we planned to do it since late last week.

Now, who is waiting for Cape Canaveral X you ask. Well rather a lot of people, it was a pretty popular title for FS2004 and if you check it had pretty good reviews. You are obviously waiting for Köln and we are all to glad to sell it to you. It is a smashing good scenery for FS2004. But Aerosoft these days needs sales world wide to survive. And world wide Cape Canaveral is pretty well known, you got to agree with that. Sales data supports that btw.

I also seen the comment that Aerosoft focuses on FSX and does not care about FS2004. Now that is clearly nonsense and certainly can not be backed up by facts. The fact we sell Köln tomorrow only for FS2004 is clear proof of that. Most FSX releases we done are remakes of products already available for FS2004 (BeaverX, MonacoX, Cape CanaveralX, Flight Calculator X, German Landmarks X etc). Others have been released in FSX and FS2004 version, although often more exiting in FSX version but that is simply because of the new version, for example Budapest.

FS2004 scenery that is high end and exiting as Köln will sell online, but fact is that FS2004 products are just not ordered by the resellers in boxed format and the download sales are also moderate (of course things that are really innovative like GAP EDDF and AES do sell okay although not nearly as well as before). Aerosoft is a professional company, FS is not a hobby for us, our money depends on it. We got where the market points us, we sell what the customers like to buy, we ship what Mediamarkt wants to stock. Seen in that light SF2004 has a limited appeal to us.

I hope I have set some of the misconceptions straight. Just as you all I am looking forward to a release of Köln. I got it on my disk and I totally love it. It is killer scenery for FS2004, perhaps the best ever done.

Lol...

As we got the files done, meaning the installer, and there are no complex update issues (like from FS2004 to FSX) to handle, I think we might get this online before lunch tomorrow (lunch our (western European) timezone.

But we got to do the last tests and those are not easy. The installer needs to be tested on Windows XP and Vista, both in at least English and German. FS2004 in English and German (are you keeping up with the possible combinations of those things?). The product pages has to be checked (5 languages), download files have to be checked.

Normally a release like this takes us about 40 hours in total from the moment we got the final files from the developer. The moment the file is released we have to schedule another 16 hours for PR and initial support. So that's 1.5 week in work hours. Of course several people work on it at the same time and sometimes we can compress this into a single day by not looking at the clock.

Let me promise this... the moment the file is available tomorrow you will see it on the German section of our news. You will see it a few moments later on the English news. In about half an hour it will be fully on the German forum section (so here), inside the hour it will be on the English scenery forum. We'll send out a press release inside two hours and the newsletters will go out on Friday.

That's about as fast as we can work. If anybody knows how to do it faster for the same costs I am sure our CEO would like to hear about it. But since it is 21:47 and I am still working... well you get my idea.
