Hi there,
just for your information: what happened to me (whilest over the Atlantic at FL360):
All in crz, all good. Had a sudden change in weather (live weather - sim) - winds and pressure. According to the altimeter, I was around a thousand feet above suddenly. Can happen. In the sim it happens a bit too often (imho). But the A340 autopilot should simply compensate that, go down back to 360 and all good. But in my case, the autopilot turned itself off. I think that shouldn't happen in that case.
I had it once (2 years ago) with an A320Neo. I got into very strange weather with quick and steady pressure changes for some seconds. And the A320 turned some of her FCCs off. Hence no autopilot, alternate law, etc. etc. I spoke to a technician afterthe flight and he said, this could happen if the A320 doesn't "trust" her sensors anymore. He says, you can just circle all FCCs to off and on again during flight and all should be good again. (didn't know that during the flight 😒)
Now, the A340 didn't turn off any FCC, just the autopilot. And I think it wasn't as turbulent as it was 2 years ago. I was just 1000ft above.
Don't know if this was a 'one timer', or if it is a bug. Just to let you know...
Best wishes
