I used the Aerosoft A339 on a long-haul flight from Taipei, Taiwan to Brisbane, which took approximately 9 hours. There were no major problems during the flight, but I did encounter several minor issues that I believe could be improved.
First, when using the “DIR TO” function, the aircraft could not immediately make a direct turn toward the selected waypoint. Instead, it would begin turning very slowly, and sometimes the aircraft would initially turn in one direction before gradually correcting itself toward the waypoint. Compared with other Airbus add-ons, the response feels noticeably delayed and unnatural.
I also noticed that the aircraft currently lacks proper RNP (RNAV) approach functionality. When flying online on VATSIM, ATC instructed me to perform an RNP approach, but I had to inform them that the aircraft was unable to fly the procedure and that I could only accept an ILS approach or radar vectors.
Another issue occurs during normal turns while following the programmed flight plan. The aircraft can sometimes deviate approximately 2–3 nautical miles away from the planned route before eventually returning to the correct track. The lateral navigation logic therefore seems to require further refinement.
In addition, during landing, after disconnecting the autopilot and manually flying the aircraft below approximately 100 feet, the aircraft becomes extremely sensitive and unstable. Even a very small sidestick input can cause a relatively large pitch response, making it difficult to maintain a smooth and stable flight path during the flare and touchdown.
I sincerely hope Aerosoft can investigate these issues and continue improving the aircraft’s FMGS, lateral navigation logic, RNP capability, and manual handling characteristics.
I have flown the A339 more than a dozen times in the sim, and I genuinely do not think it is a bad aircraft. In fact, I enjoy flying it. However, I believe that improving these avionics and flight-control issues would make the aircraft significantly more realistic and enjoyable to operate.
