Scenery doesn't look as good as it should

Hi everyone,

I just bought my first FSX scenery ever and it happened to be of my favourite airport, Frankfurt. I've encountered a few problems with the quality of some things such as the runway. Everything looks stunning, the taxiways, buildings, etc. But the runway which plays a huge part in making it more realistic looks terrible, as well as the grass right outside of the taxiways and other things like the roads for vehicles. Those few things look nothing like they did on pictures.

I have a pretty decent computer and I get no lag at Frankfurt X, could it be that I am running Windows 8?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, if you need my specs, just ask, thanks!

Very simple:

- Make a screenshot and save it as jpg file

- click on "Use Full Editor" on the lower right corner of the reply box

- then scroll down and click on "Attach Files" and select your file

Thanks for the info! Anyways, here are the photos, as you can see, the many parts of it have great detail, and others lack a lot, such as the runway and sides of taxiways where the grass is, as you can probably tell. I also included a picture of the scenery settings.

You generally seem to have a display problem.

Some textures do not show up correctly, others are way too blurred.

Hard to say for sure what is wrong.

The first thing to do is to try redownloading and reinstalling:

1. Remove the current scenery via the Windows control panel

2. Download the latest version of EDDF from your account with your antivirus off

3. Install it with antivirus off and as administrator

4. Launch FSX as administrator, go to FSX and see if it changes anything

Also I can see you are on ultra right sliders in your FSX settings.

Try turning them a bit down (e.g. traffic), releasing some performance and increasing loading times.

And are you aure you had not used any other freeware rendition of EDDF (even an AFCAD-type one) prior to installing the payware version?

I have an impression some elements seen in your screenshots do not look like the Mega Airport Frankfurt ones (being either default or from another addon).

Plus it won't hurt if you write down your exact specs: hardware (processor, video card, RAM, etc) and your operating system version.

You clearly don't have the FSX menu option Global Texture Resolution set to Very High.

Do so.

You will also want to increase the level of Texture load to 2048 in FSX.cfg

For any further advice please supply your system specs (I don't know how you think anyone can help you without that basic information) and a full copy of the FSX.cfg, without the gauge permissions section.

Rafal, I have turned some of the sliders down, and it did not improve anything. I will try to reinstall it after, and I do remember having other freeware Frankfurt scenery, but I'm pretty sure I uninstalled them.

Snave, sorry, I can't seem to find the fsx.cfg file. Can you direct me to it?

i only know how to find it on win 7 and older win 8 i never tryeid so i would say if you have a run funktion (search for run)go to it and type %appdata% then it should find the hidden floder then navigate to \Microsoft\FSX and then you should find it.. but i dont know if it´s the same but a try worth

Might be related to your FSX graphics settings in combination with yout ATI graphicscard.

As I'm not familar with best setting for the ATI, I would try the following:

- in the [GRAPHICS] section add the line HIGHMEMFIX=1

if this doesn't help:

- rename your fsx.cfg to something like fsx.old

- run FSX (as Administrator!) and let it build a new fsx.cfg

- run fsx and see if something has changed

- optionally got the site http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html and tune your fsx.cfg with this tool and try again.

Before you do so, remove both entries for your graphic card - unless you have two monitors

Next, that resolution is woeful for FSX and probably not native to your computer monitor so taking these out is probably going to fix many things.

I do agree that the HIGHMEMFIX=1 should be applied to the [GRAPHICS] section.

Having removed both entries in their entirety as above, restart the sim. At the menu system go to the user interface and change the graphic resolution to match exactly that of your computer monitor.

After that, choose Anisotropic from the filtering menu and tick the box for Anti-Aliasing. Now select and load a flight and see what things look like.

After that, close FSX, go to your video card controls and choose a reasonable level of override setting for AA and AF - usually 16x for the AF and a more complex AA combination works best.

Restart FSX and see if it looks better. Repeat until satisfied. Also the return to the FSX .cfg and seek the line

WideViewAspect=False

Try changing to

WideViewAspect=True

assuming your monitor has a widescreen resolution

None of the above is covered in the venetubo tuning. DO NOT use that until you have a baseline setting that is at least vaguely suitable for your rig.

Sometimes it's hard to know what your preferred or native resolution shoud be. In Windows 7 (sorry, but I don't know if this is changed in Win 8), right click on the desktop. then left click on "Screen resolution." The current resolution should have the word "(recommended)" after it. If not, click on the down pointing arrow at the right side of the resolution box and you'll see a slider with the recommended resolution indicated. Choose that one, and also use it in FSX, remembering to go for 32 bit color.
