A346 16
Hi all, today i tried out the Radial In function. And i have found out some problems. This is the initial situation This is what i am going to enter. In my opinion the yellow line should go from LURER through the INTCPT and not to my present position. After insert the green line is correct, but this is not radial 320 into LURER, it is course 320 into LURER, which would be the radial 140. When trying to insert radial 140, which should be the correct value, i think the yellow line is again wrong. It should go to the north from LURER, when the MCDU interpret the input value by mistake as course. The MCDU says "No nav intercept" and should stay in my opinion in HDG mode. But it switches automatically to the NAV mode and flies an normal DCT TO. Another problem i have found is the AP mode behavior. If i enter a DCT TO RADIAL IN or DCT TO RADIAL OUT, the aircraft should switch/stay in the HDG mode and should only arm NAV. Depending whether a INTCPT point is generated or not the FMS track should be dashed or solid. (In this case the FMS line can be solid, even with NAV only armed). It does not make any sense that the Autopilot mode is directly switching to NAV captured, because then the message "ADJUST DESIRED HDG/TRK" would be useless, because i can not adjust my heading. If a INTCPT point is generated, it should be constantly updated. Best A346

Tom_L 19
Hi all, my 2 cents: I tried and tried to get the "RADIAL INBD" stuff work as it is one of the procedures Emi mentioned in his post "So you want to be a new A318/319 Pilot?". In fact it didn't work for me, maybe because there's something wrong with the coding. But the Airbus FCTM is also not very clear about how to use this function. One should use it in order to get a proper sequencing of waypoints while being vectored to the final and thus getting proper predictions and vertical guidance. On the other hand the FCTM states that every DIRECT reverts to NAV-mode. So the way I understand it should function is as follows: As soon as ATC gives me a heading that will intercept the Final course i insert the RADIAL INBD procedure into the flightplan, an intercept Point is drawn onto final course taking my present heading into account, the airplane enters NAV mode inbound to the INTCPT fix which should not alter my current heading. And when reaching the Final (which is consistent with the entered radial) the airplane turns onto the radial e.g. the Final. To make a long story short: It seems to me not only a problem of correct implementation but also of proper usage. Maybe some real Airbus Driver could clarify how this is done (and coded) in the real world. Happy landings Tom
Deputy Sheriffs The Dude 6537 Posted October 5, 2014 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted October 5, 2014 You are almost right in your understanding. The airplane will not go into NAV mode but will stay in HDG with NAV armed in blue. As soon as you are 'near' the intercept point/radial in it will intercept the radial and go into NAV mode. This is how it works in RL and I made a video of it for our dev. He is quite busy at the moment but the correct implementation of this feature is already in our internal buglist. Hope it makes SP1... pilot_recruit 4
The new SP 1.10 is still not fixed this problem as the AP will automatically switch from HDG/TRK mode to NAV mode
Deputy Sheriffs The Dude 6537 Posted November 28, 2014 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted November 28, 2014 Yep, it is still on the list.
uadriver 6
can i mention i have similar experiences with this function .... to waypoint fixes as shown by A346. but i have absolutely no success with the function if i want program to a navaid fix. cheers john
Deputy Sheriffs The Dude 6537 Posted December 12, 2014 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted December 12, 2014 We are still on it and making progress in the internal builds.
uadriver 6
frank "making progress" is encouraging .... you realise we need all 320 bugs fixed before 330 release !!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers john

We are finding bugs in project we released 8 years ago. It's software.
