Snave 466
My in-laws live in Scotland, between Aberdeen and Peterhead. According to their thermometer, it reached -20°C last night! Fortunately, they are in Texas for the winter, so not only don't care but sent a `laughing snowman` email yesterday with a photo attached of them on the stoop, 24°C, sunshine, drinking beer in shorts after they got the email from their neighbour with the photo of the temp gauge... I could learn to hate them... but the last laugh is ours - that's so cold they HAVE to have the heating on to prevent pipes freezing indoors, even though they're 3,000 miles away! That'll drain the pension!
Matt_Smith 1116
And the last laugh is always the most satisfying, even more so in this case At least you are able to keep your inlaws at a safe distance. Scotland is far enough away to put them off coming to visit unannounced
TF-197 28
Well, woke up this morning to still only a light dusting. The temperature outside right now is -4 though, so I'm looking forward to some antics in the non-gritted car park after work. Never cease's to amaze me how far you can slide an Escort estate in icy conditions! it was freaking -12°C here today according to some temperature gauges, it was so cold that my hair frose solid when I went to the swimming pool, to bad I don't have a car for about 6 more months but then when I get my driving licence YEAHH its gonna be so much fun when it snows and freezes
Snave 466
Well, now it's weirder. Sudden rise in temp last night, above freezing, then down came the rain. Washed most of the snow away while we slept. And it didn't re-freeze. In my minds eye I see people, freshly-purchased snow socks in hand, stepping out their front doors to install them on their veh... oh crap! :jawdrop64_s:
Matt_Smith 1116
Flooding next? Anyone want a rubber dingy? One careful owner only punctured once
Spud 27
WOW, you guys are doing it tuff ! I've been following it on the news here in Australia. What a contrast though, only about 3 weeks ago where I am, we reached near on 40 degrees celsius which lasted for a few days. It wasn't even summer and it's a wonder that planes could take off from Perth airport ! Those tyres should have been melted to the tarmac. Now we're into summer and we can reach temps up to 43-45 degrees celsius for the next 3 months with no rain in sight. Having been brought up in Belgium but now living in Australia, I must say that I miss the snow.
Matt_Smith 1116
Heck, I'll volenteer to swap places with you then, I've just about had enough of snow now
Robert S 75
Wow, I just returned from the UK myself yesterday. I was in Telford, Lichfield and Newport. Gotta say, living in Colorado puts snow in perspective but it's also all about being prepared and what you're used to as well. I was lucky, I also left from Birmingham airport Wednesday night and flew into Stuttgart, no problems.
PaulPCPilot 11
just been in my car...its a nice -13C up in central scotland... people have been trapped on the motorways from yesterday morning as we had a lot of unforecast snow right at the start of the rush hour right over the road between glasgow and edinburgh....the worst place at the worst time... The suns out though, and the temperatures are set to rise to -11C...time to get the swimming shorts on paul
Snave 466
It's a sultry +1°C in Southern England right now. First day in a week I haven't had to clean ice off the inside of the windscreen! Balmy!
maddz 737 55
Ive got a christmas card picture looking out my window...all the trees are white with frost, and so are the spider webs..and its a shivvering -4°C here.
Chris_327 42
Well on Sunday night, temperatures here managed to claw themselves to about +1. Then it rained. Lots. Then it froze again. Consequently we're all now probably better off fixing spikes to our tyres. Don't you just love Britain in winter
Matt_Smith 1116
Just been to the lovely place they call Dartford today Every back road has about 2 inches of compacted snow which has then been frozen over sucessive nights, awesome fun to drive on, total bitch to walk on though
