tibovdberge 1
Dear I just noticed that you can fly with the fuel pumps off .. This is something that is not possible, nor will you get a message when the engine starts that the fuel pumps are still switched off. Can this be looked into to resolve this? Thanks
Deputy Sheriffs Secondator 643 Posted December 12, 2019 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted December 12, 2019 It's certainly possible to fly with fuel pumps off. The aircraft will use suction to get fuel from the engines and this will allow the aircraft fly up to FL300 or so. After FL300 the outside pressure is so low that you need fuel pumps to pump the fuel into the engines for reliable operation. Of course it's not recommended to fly with fuel pumps off, but it's certainly possible.

Thanks Secondator's explanation is very well said. Garvity also plays a roll here as well, as the fuel tanks in the wings are above the engines. However since the Aircraft is not always straight and level, the fuel pumps provide provide a constant positive pressure. Think of them as boost pumps, though they are certainly a bit more than that. Deputy Sheriffs masterhawk 799 Posted December 13, 2019 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted December 13, 2019 And as always, we model only SOP (no errors). And flying without pumps, is clearly out of SOP.
