CTD EDLW Dortmund

Hi,

I purchased EDLW Dortmund on Saturday and despite many attempts with different aircraft every time I get a CTD over the threshold of RWY6 when landing. I have deleted the airport and reinstalled with windows uninstaller and disabled any possible conflicting sceneries in the area. I don't have Scenery Germany 3 but do have the Football Stadiums but these were installed well before EDLW.

I can take off over the same position on RWY24 with no problem and there is no problem when landing on RWY24. Could you please assist me.

mmm difficult one. We sold a load of these so when there was an inherent scenery problem we would have known about it. The answer you are not waiting for is that it will work on a clean FS2004. Another answer you are not waiting for is that it has to be something on your system that is different from other systems. Yet both are true.

My most educated guess would be you got some replacement texture for default textures. They often cause problems like this and we seriously dislike them for it. Some sets contain horrible mistakes and we pay for their support.

I can (sadly) reproduce the error here. A very deep approach to RW06 with a touchdown at the beginning of the runway leads to the CTD.

Tried it with the Flight1 ATR.

Nearly all FS9 payware-addons in this region installed.

This afternoon I flew an approach with an Overland-Boeing without any problems. But I wasted runway and landed a little bit later. So there are a some testflights needed.

More in the german forum thread, where I got the information how to reproduce it. And that was possible.

As I described in the german forum there is a workaround for users, who don't want to drive onto the higher GA-area at EDLW. Then it's possible to deactivate the file edlw-platform.bgl in AEROSOFTEDLW_2007scenery.

Rename it for example to edlw-platform.bgx

Very important: This is not an workaround which is directly supported from Aerosoft. Do it at your own risk. But it works, because in this file the platform-command (which has s.th. to do with the error) is placed.

for a short test:

Could you please deactivate/rename (from ending bgl to bgx for example) the following files from Worldcup-Stadiums?

Schalke_Stadion.bgl

Terr_SC_01.bgl

Terr_SC_02.bgl

Terr_SC_exc.BGL

Maybe these files causes the EDLW-problem at my system. We are doing some further tests but it is useful if I can compare my search-results with other FS-installations.

I deactivated edlw-platform.bgl as you suggested in your post which solved the problem. I will reactivate this file and do as you suggested with the Stadium files and let you know the result. Should be able to do this at some point today for you.

Thanks Peter. We had two customers in the german forum where this deactivation of these four stadium-files helped. So I am confident that it solves the problem for you as well.

Next step will be that we do some (needed) changes in these stadium files and put them together in a patch. That's s.th. where I am involved with Sascha and PeterH. (the designer of EDLW).

Firstly thank you very much for your help and support.

This gets more curious, I tried 5 approaches.

Project Airbus A320 no problem landing exactly on the GS

Project Airbus A320 no problem landing below the GS.

Posky CRJ900 no problem landing below the GS.

A300B4-605R CTD Landing exactly on the GS.

A300B4-605R CTD Landing below the GS.

So now I am not sure what is going on. The deletion of the stadium files has certainly had a beneficial effect, but there still seems to be a problem somewhere on my system at least.

Ok, next try:

You have the football-stadiums and no Scenery Germany 3 installed.

Please do the following test:

Make some flights with a deactive football-stadium-addon.

No error? Ok, then activate the football-stadiums. Now deactivate the following files within the stadiums:

Terr_DO_01.bgl

Terr_DO_02.bgl

Terr_DO_exc.bgl

Dortmund_Stadion.bgl

Of course these files as you know:

Schalke_Stadion.bgl

Terr_SC_01.bgl

Terr_SC_02.bgl

Terr_SC_exc.bgl

Now please do some new tests.

Any other freeware addons in this region installed? No texture-changes, I only want to know scenery-addons.

Could you please give me a list of your files from the worldcup/scenery-folder?

Am on my way out now and won't be able to get back to you till tomorrow, I have one freeware scenery for the area by Christian Bahr,

The City of Dortmund (near EDLW) in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany

FS2004 Add-On (VERSION 4.1)

I Have tried deactivating this scenery it doesn't seem to have any affect on the problem.

As far as I know I have no texture changes in the area.

When you ask for a list of the files in the world cup scenery folder do you mean a list of every .bgl?

It's easy to get such a list with a command-window and the dir-command. You can put this list into an editor or write it directly into one file.

Should be able to do the flight tests for you later this am.

I don't know how to do what you ask, I know how to access directories in dos or command prompt ie the commands dir/p and cd to path, but I don't know how to list the files in a directory or how to export them to a file etc to send them to you. Such a long time since I did anything with DOS. If you could explain I will be happy to oblige.

please open a dos-command, change to the worldcup-stadiums/scenery-folder and type:

dir /a > list.txt

I hope you see the blanks between the commands. BTW: If you type dir /? in the commandbox you'll get a short description.

Hi Rainer,

With World cup deactivated no CTD, even on a very deep approach.

When I try to deactivate the files for the second test I have no Dortmund stadium bgl file. Could this be the problem? I have florian, Telecom 1 & 2, Whallen 1& 2 plus the terr files you mention.

Back to the file list I got to worldcup/scenery and then typed the command, I checked for spaces by copying and pasting from your post but could not get the command to work. Plus when I do finally get the text how do I make a copy of it so that I can post it to you?

Hi Peter,

I need for helping you the complete list of all files in the worldcup/scenery-folder.

Please download this small batch:

http://rduda.digital-aviation.de/pics/edlw/list.zip

Unpack this zip-file and put the list.bat-file into your worldcup/scenery-folder where all the bgl-files are. Then execute the list.bat (doubleclick). It will make a new file called list.txt in the same folder where it is startet.

I need exactly this list.txt-file. It's a textfile, so you can copy/paste the lines to this Forum-Editor without any problems.

Ok Peter,

please rename these files to bgx:

Terr_DO_02.bgl

Terr_DO_exc.BGL

Terr_DO_ground_3.bgl

Then all files with "DO" and "SC" (the stadiums in Gelsenkirchen/Schalke and Dortmund) are hopefully deactive. Please make sure, that that's the case. Some other files from Dortmund (for example Whallen) doesn't disturb. And please delete the scenery.dat in your Worldcup-folder (one step above the bgl-files). It will be renewed then at the next FS-start.

As far as I know so far: in these files a gmax-platform-command is or seems to be used.

If we won't find the problem at this stage you'll get my email. Then we exchange some files on your computer. But that's s.th. I don't want to do in a forum-thread.

I'm in contact with the Worldcup-designers and there must be a solution/patch for this sitation, that these stadium-files causes the problems with the new EDLW.

So far you loose 2 Football-stadiums. In my eyes much better than CTDs in EDLW.

you're very welcome. And your German isn't as bad as you may think. My English often isn't better - too many mistakes. But that's maybe not so important.

New info:

The patch will be delayed. There are some good private reasons from a colleague who has to send me some files for compiling (he has changed to FSX-SDK, while I stay longer on FS9-GMAX-SDK so I'm able to help here). But it seems that we found a workaround with disabling the files from these two stadiums. Better than nothing I think.
