  1. Shaun, you and the team at Aerosoft better check the PC-pilot version of Beaver as I get the error message "Oh no, not the right aircraft. Same problem I did with the F-16. Maybe the same kind of error.

    I get that message too.

  2. I also would like to see more vintage aircraft of Catalina quality. One beautiful classic that I'd love to see is the Luscombe 8. The Cessna 120, 140, or 170 would also be nice. I'd even like to see an early version of the 150 or 172. I'd love to see an aircraft like these with the high-quality systems modeling that the Catalina has. It's unfortunate that there aren't very many high-quality vintage light singles on the market.

I agree, and I'd add vintage 'heavies' to that observation. With the notable exceptions of the A2A Stratocruiser and the Aerosoft Catalina, ( and another Dakota in the works ) its a vast body of aircraft that's overlooked by the high-end developers. From what I can tell, that situation is unlikely to change, due to commercial reasons.

I was looking down the list of topics in the SOH forums the other day and just about every aircraft-specific thread concerned either a warbird or military jet. A bit depressing. :(

  3. Glad you've found her, Tommy.

I favour aircraft from that period so I am a bit biased, but I consider the Aerosoft Catalina to be the most 'complete' vintage prop add-on available. I've been flying it regularly since it's release and can not fault it.

Superb in every aspect, and a comprehensive paint kit too.

    :)

  4. I agree; such is Aerosoft's stock with the flight simming fraternity, that they possibly can afford to risk being a little more adventurous. Any Aerosoft release elicits a lot of interest, and maybe more sales than if the same model was released by another publisher ( mentioning no names ).

  5. No disrespect, but come on guys...Quit with all the belly aching and let the man make the aircraft...If you are not interested, then don't purchase or spam the forum topic with all the sniveling, simply find another one that might peak your interest.

No disrespect but we are 'snivelling' ? Right.

We are reacting to the prospect of a third native FSX F-14, which has generated some controversy. This is permitted; its called 'discussion''. We are not 'snivelling'...as you so respectfully put it.

If you wish only for whoop-whooping unalloyed approbation, go and read Sim Outhouse.

  6. When you say something new, its new to me, is that not enough reason ?, people forget that I've worked on over 100 models (must ###### them up one day) over the years and been author to a very high percentage of those, aircraft people suggest as new are not new to me, they're as boring to me as a new rendition of the F-14 is to them :).

Michael, the fact that the F-14 is new to you as a modeller isn't going to sell it in a market that already has one payware and one freeware Tomcat . I'm talking about 'new' to the consumer, not to you, the manufacturer ( for want of a better term).

Your post above raises a question...who's decision was it to go for an F-14 ? Was it you who offered an F-14 to Aerosoft, or did Aerosoft decide they wanted an F-14 and then approach you to build it ?

( All this can't be much fun for you, Michael, but if your modelling skills are anywhere near your resilience, continued pleasant manners and good humour since this F-14 furore arose...well...DO A C-46 !!!! )

  7. Michael, if it has to be military, its still not too late to change to a B-47, you know. Even I would rationalize a Stratojet into Air Hauler some how. And our cousins in the Colonies would find it equally 'awesome' as the Tomcat.

Please understand, I'm not trying to re-invent this thread into another 'what would you like to see next' poll, just presenting an alternative that I hope would be equally beneficial to Aerosoft's fortunes.A rare beauty, something bankable, but new ( well, apart from the Alphasim one which came and went ) and a bit different.

Yes, you are about to embark on 2000 hours of work; please, please make it on something new !

( Lawman, good thread and good opening post BTW )

  8. Just thought I would say thanks to Aerosoft for being there; quite a trip from Germany, so I hope it was commercially worthwhile. The show was small but beautifully formed, with some great cockpit set-ups and bespoke control systems. Unfortunately all my photos are blurred for some reason except this one, which gives an idea of the things to be seen and tried out.

Had to tell him his mum wanted him, so I could have a go...

These were my purchases for the day...

Congratulations to Aerosoft for selling Fly Tampa's Hong Kong & Kai Tak for £20, while nearby, the Just Flight stand was selling it for £24. It pays to shop around. ;)

Quite a few other exhibitors there, including Saitek, Alpine Systems, RC Simulations and PC Pilot magazine. I really hope it becomes a regular feature at Duxford, and well done to all involved.

    :cheers_s:

  9. Thanks for that, Mathijs. I'll be at Duxford's airshow this coming weekend, and much looking forward to the Flight Simulator 2010 exhibition. I'll pick up a copy at their stand.

By the way, I see Aerosoft is listed as an exhibitor. Are you or Shaun going to be present ?

  10. Hello gents, just to let you know, we have decided on a primary and secondary project, one from the list and one not, the latter just jumped out of the page when some one mentioned it above. Hopefully more will be revealed when we have some screen shots for you.

Thanks to everyone for their input, your feedback was invaluable and a great insight to what you want and expect.

Somebody hold him down while I get the thumb-screws...

  11. Wonderful pictures !

I really must make the effort with RoF. Its a game I really looked forward too, but just haven't had time to get to grips with. Anyway, how can you love air combat and NOT want RoF ? :)

  12. Paul, one of the sad facts about military and civil transports is their lack of global market appeal, except maybe the C-130, if they were more appealing then more developers would be knocking the door down, the fact that this genre is almost blanket avoided by all developers does indicate that they are not as commercially attractive as combat jets. Aerosoft is a commercial concern so that aspect I'm sure will be factored in their choices I'm afraid.

By all means have a go at building, we all had to start somewhere :).

And yet Aerosofts 'Catalina' sold very well as did the DHC2 Beaver ( at least I assume they did... they certainly sold well with me! ). Is it such a remove to a fully-featured C-46, with the potential of all those South American repaints ? Or a C-119; there's nothing remotely like it available in FSX as far as I know. People seem to enjoy frontier/bush flying, Air Hauler is out there...some classic props would surely be welcome.

I know, I'm repeating myself. I just need to get it off my chest. ;)

  13. Hello Folks,

I'm going to step in here real quick before this goes off track now.

The subject is what plane should they do and not the merits of what FSX can and cannot do.

Certainly Shaun, and I sincerely apologize for taking it off topic. I'm just getting a little frustrated with the plethora of combat jets, while many classic military and civil transports remain neglected.

Maybe time to get off my bum and learn how to build them myself. ;)

  14. I can load an F/18 and fly over hostile territory, where SAMS are indeed launched at me from the ground and I must deploy my chaff and flares in order to avoid aircraft damage. Oh, and then I can lock on to another aircraft and fire a missle at it too.

What add-on for FSX allows all that ? Its one I've never heard of.

  15. And can we please stop bashing those that enjoy flying military aircraft without blowing stuff up? Just because you don't see the point does not mean someone else doesn't.

Nobody is bashing anyone. We are expressing opinions.

    • A-4E-F
    • U-2C/ER-2
    • F-5E/T-38C
    • A-37/T-37
    • F-84F

In short, none of the above.

Why all the combat aircraft at the moment? Iris is doing an A-10 and Eurofighter, Milviz has just released an A-7 and is also doing an A-10 , A2A has an F-4 in the works, Area 51 has just released a U2-S, Dino Cattaneo his F-35 etc.

I may be missing a point here...but what actually IS the point ? Beyond taking it up for a circuit or two, or maybe a cross-country VFR exercise, what do you actually do with them ? Nothing that defines them can be replicated in FSX, there are no weapons, no targets, flak, or SAMs. Advanced radar is irrelevant, stealth meaningless and in the case of the F-35, how do you know that anything of the FDE is accurate ? Its all classified.

It seems to me that ultimately, all you can really do in these aircraft is watch your latest scenery add-on go by a little more quickly than, say, the Catalina. And I suspect their appeal rapidly fades.

We have a load of virtual airlines round the world, and add-on's such as Air Hauler so why not some vintage cargo/passenger aircraft such as the C-46 or C-119, DC-4 or even as modern as a Lockheed L-118 Electra ? Its a civilian flight sim, after all.

  16. I have used different scenery packs here. In Germany it is the VFR German series 1,2,3 and 4 I have installed. A bit old but nice if you don't fly too near the ground. I have UTX Europe and GEX Europe which you see in Sweden and Norway. And some freeware of Norwegian and Swedish aiports. Thats all.

Thanks, Fred. UTX and GEX are on my shopping list, so your info is very useful. Thanks again.
