  1. Ref my starting problem above;

If the Huey is the first aircraft I load after starting FSX up, I have the problem. Pressing shift+2 and clicking on the lower image just switches on the power, not the engine

If I load a Cessna 172, get that running with Ctrl+E, then switch aircraft to the Huey, she's is running fine. I can press shift+2 and click on the upper image ( everything shuts down as expected ) then click on the lower image and the engine is running, ready to fly. I can do this over and over and it works fine. Cold and dark...ready to go....cold and dark...ready to go...it all works as advertised.

So the problem only happens if the Huey is the first aircraft loaded.I bet this is an FSX problem, not a Huey one.

  2. I've spent most of today continuing my efforts to master FSX helicopter flying. I've looked up every hint and tip on the web and, rather to my surprise, I'm starting to make progress hovering the default R-22. Frustration has given way to optimism and, being so encouraged, I shall be purchasing the Aerosoft Huey tomorrow. By the looks of it, a wonderful model of an aviation icon.

    :)

  3. Cant be me either, just look at the surname

Actually Matt, you probably are in line to the throne, if your are of lengthy English or Scots lineage like me. I read an article years ago about it. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to wait till about 5000 others die off first before you get a crack at it. Still, if and when you do get crowned , demand tribute from Mathijs in the form of freebie downloads!

    ;)

  4. Its a very good book Ari, and will inspire you on your travels.

Henshaw's Percival Mew Gull, G-AEXF, still flies in the UK, having been rebuilt a few times after accidents.

I notice on your website there is a link to your Round-The-World trip in a DC-3. A RTW trip is still something I want to do, and your route looks ideal. Not sure which aircraft yet though. ;)

    Anyway, best of luck. :)

  5. Are spam posts really a major problem in this forum ? I've noticed one or two, and received a spam PM before now...but none of it has ever been a huge inconvenience to me. I see the thread..say to myself 'Oh its spam' and then disregard it.

  6. Inorder to learn flying helicopters in FS, there is no shortcut around training training and training...etc

Thanks Finn, but that's not what I want to hear !

Cant you make it fly something like the Apache in Microprose's 'Gunship' ? All I want to do is tour London VFR in it ! ;)

  7. Ho ho... the basic flight model for helicopters might not be perfect in FSX but that does not mean we use that for this Huey. In fact if we would not have been able to make it better we would not have started on this project. Included in this project is a special DLL that alters how FSX handles helicopters.

Mathijs, tell me...is this going to make helicopter flying easier in MSFS ?

I've never been able to master it. After lifting off, its like balancing on top of a beach ball on ice, blindfold. The slightest control input seems to result in me skittering off sideways till I roll over.

If you have done something...anything...to make helicopter flying more straightforward, I will be very interested indeed! :)

  8. Nice shots Paul, are you affiliated to BAS in any way? As a side note, somewhere I have book which did list the BS number for the colour used on the BAS Twotter and Dash 7

No Matt, though I live in Cambridge and the British Antarctic Survey's headquarters is here. Duxford is just seven miles down the road, so maybe that proximity accounts for the presence of their Dash. It was a very pleasant surprise to see it. :)

  9. Chesse-Strike,

A question about the Dash 7 from British Antarctic Survey. The shown picture which I guess is taken in-game display an almost orange livery colour.

If I browse through photos of the BAS livery on the Internet, I see colours ranging from very red to almost orange.

It is probably light conditions causing this, but I am unsure of what the actual colour of the BAS livery is?

    Michael

Do these photos help ? I took them when the BAS Dash 7 was at Duxford a few years ago.

Somewhere between red and orange, I think.

  10. Yes, I like those old radios too, and I'll use that mod in the 'period' Catalinas. The Catalina I fly almost exclusively, however, is the present-day Lelystad-based Dutch one and so the modern radios are authentic.

Once again, a huge thank you for your assistance in this, Maddz. The Cat is a firm favourite of mine, and you have made it even better. :)

  11. Maddz, used the radio portion of your panel.cfg and bingo ! A pop up radio stack!

Didn't alter the GPS pop up as that already works, and I dont use GPS anyway

I had to add a Window title at the top before it would appear, so the modified cfg is as follows, with the modifications in bold

Presumably I can now look into getting a radio stack that looks more akin to the one in the VC. THanks for your help, much appreciated !:cheers_s:

  12. Jim Hodkinson did a set of 3 pop-up windows for the FSX Beaver ( GPS, engine instruments and radio stack ) and I wonder if any consideration has been given to a similar mod for the Catalina's modern radio stack ? I've always thought its a bit 'too far away' in the virtual cockpit, and a simple pop-up ( like the GPS ) would be very handy.

How easy is it too accomplish, and Jim, are you still around ?

  13. As far as I know, the only DHC2 thats affected by this is the PC Pilot one...I haven't had any other Beaver display the message ( though I have to say, I haven't gone through them all )

So, what is it in the PC Pilot one that makes it a long range version ? Something in the aircraft.cfg presumably ?
