CCS Files

Recommended Posts

In light of Peter's work -don't you think it would be better if the ccs files available where posted back onto this site, rather than on Avsim - never really understood why they where removed anyway.

I think it had something to do with space, but I'm not totally sure. But it would be good to get them here again like you said. It would also make a great place for your English Lake District slope files too, if you're still interested, cause I know I am.

Hi Scott -sorry about the delay - just sent you two e-mails with the files. They were scanned using VFR Terrain. I find flying in the VFR photoscenery adds to the realism especially with some of the add-on autogen for the UK. I'm playing around with a 'virtual' gliding club with ai gliders and motorglider ect. at the moment for the area. When I get the cash and can upgrade my computer system hopefully will get FSX and the Horizon photoscenery scenery for the UK - but thats on hold as i'm saving for a real glider.

We must be thinking alike, at the same time you made this post, I was in the process of gathering info for an email to you about a free file splitter program I had found and used with no viruses/spyware/adware. I'll check my email for the files, and Thank You for have sending them. As far as airports/gliderports in that area in real life, do you know how many there are? FSX only has two, one to the NE and one to the SW of the area.

And WOW! Getting a real glider sounds exciting.

Well there are two gliding clubs in the area - one is at Walney - http://www.lakesgc.co.uk/ - this is quite an established small club. Then there is a new club which has just formed - http://www.edensoaring.co.uk/. Hopefully when I get a glider again (I've owned a few in the past) I shall join the later club, as it is better positioned for great flying. In fact the area has been neglected for many years by gliderpilots (but not by hanglider or paragliding pilots see http://www.cumbriasoaringclub.co.uk/ ) and is really now been discovered again - even though it is perhaps one of the best soaring areas in the UK.

I guess Walney and Carlilse will be in FSX - but if you get the Horizon VFR photoscenery for the north of England ( http://www.visualflight.co.uk and http://www.horizonsimulation.com ) - it will bring the area to life and Gary Summons is updating a version of his UK Airports scenery ( http://www.uk2000scenery.com/ ) for FSX which includes 2 additional airfields:- Cark airfield ( http://www.hollywinds.com/loc.htm )- basically a parchuting centre and Kirkbride ( http://kirkbrideairfield.mysite.orange.co.uk/ and http://www.rogersavage.co.uk/ ) which has some light aircraft, gyroplane and microlights). However niether of them are in the mountains - so I have made a 'virtual gliding club' and airstrip in some fields northwest of Keswick which nestles at the base of Skiddaw ( Google earth will help you locate these places). One day when I have finished playing about with it I might get around to uploading it.

There was a time about a year ago when there was very serious considerations as to whether SOAR would close its doors. Almost all the leadership abandoned us. Previous leadership suggested we pull the plug and take the SOAR site down. We (Karen and I) did not want to see SOAR die so we took it on and are paying the bills. We had to cut back to a smaller site to reduce our expenses. CCS files are large and require a lot of storage space. Also, downloading ccs files consumes a lot of bandwidth if there is heavy usage. We also don't get any financial help to support the site and historically only two or three individuals have ever donated financially towards SOAR. We have tried fund raising projects( selling SOAR items through Cafe Press) but to our knowledge nobody ever purchased anything.

Personally I would like to see the CCS files back on the SOAR site and if interest continues to grow at SOAR I will see what we can do to expand the site but financing this project is a real issue.

Also, I would like to express our gratitute for the many talented pilots that have contributed their talent and hard work to SOAR by donating their creations such as planes, programs, scenery, etc. Included in that group, but not limited to are Roland Stuck, Peter Franke, Max Roodtveldt, Eric Cardin, Wolfgang Piper, Chris Gordan, and especially Peter Lurkins for salvaging FSX by creating Cumulus X. A special thanks to SF4JC "Scott" for his hard work uploading and catagorizing the CCS Files, Kris Feldmann and Bill Bomball for spending countless hours creating many of the CCS files. Also, thru the years there have been others that contributed time and effort volunteering to do race design, scoring, etc. - without them SOAR would not still be here. All your efforts have been greatly appreciated!! :respect:

Best Regards, :smiles:

wormburner, I have to ask you to resend those files if you could please. Yahoo will not open them for some reason. It seems they are not going to fix whatever problem I'm having any time soon, so I just thought if you re-emailed them to me, they may open. I'm hoping anyways.
