A320 CFM v1.30 E When at cruise level and aircraft is within 200 NM of its destination, starting descent using Vertical Speed does not activate Descent Phase in MCDU, but activates descent in the checklist ("Initiating Descent"). To activate DES phase in MCDU you have to start descent as Managed Descent (DES) or Open Descent (OP DES) and then switch to Vertical Speed. Is this behaviour correct or should starting descent with vertical speed activate Descent Phase in MCDU as well? Mladen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It looks like DES activates when you are 200 nm or less from your destination and FD or AP is on, regardless of the vertical mode you are using.
