Tyrion 72
Hey everybody! With my pc fixed, I finally got around to fly the first Task as outlined in the glider section! I had some great fun flying from Andras Field to Durach and back in Aerosofts amazing Discus! My IGC tracklog can be found in the glider section, but here are some screenshots from the trip in attachment! 1: A couple of minutes out of Durach. Note my instruments are set to meters, and the altimeter is set so that it shows exactly 1000m when on the ground at AF (it doesn't reach 0m, so I opted for the next easy number). So I'm flying 185 km/h at 820m above AF level in this shot. 2: Making the turn over Durach airfield to round the turning point and start back to Andras Field 3: Crossing Durach airfield 4: Arriving at Andras Field, high in the left-hand downwind for the grass strip. 5: Same as the previous one, but this time seen from the cockpit. 6: In final for landing, but having missjudged my final turn a bit (too early) I'm struggling with the 8kts crosswind. 7: Short final this time, still fighting the crosswind but it's looking good now. 8: same as 7, but this time from the exterior. 9: Touch Down! Rolling out on the runway after successfully completing the crosswind landing. 10: sitting still on the runway, time to get out and push the aircraft away. thanks for watching! B21 19
Thanks for this - I enjoyed following it through with your screenshots, and I'm pleased to see sim_logger being useful (as I wrote that freeware addon). There's an old british soaring book now out of print called Soaring Across Country by Bill Scull that guides a new cross-country pilot around a task using photographs taken out of the cockpit at key points which was captivating reading for pre-GPS new cross-country glider pilots, very similar in principle to what you produced (although with more emphasis on landmarks...). Anyway - I uploaded your IGC tracklog and your screenshots to everytrail.com to see how they look on there - take a peek - that site is well suited to this I think. Best wishes, B21
