Art Scholls - Super Chipmunk

Being a past Radio Control modeler and enjoying many countless hours of fun with this one, I can't believe there's nothing available for the flight simulators. I've searched the internet and have never found one of these available for FS2004 or FSX. I feel this one would be a big hit with most of the simmers.

Art Scholl was a true legend in his "Super Chipmunk"

For those of you who've never heard of Art Scholl, read more here: http://artscholl.org/

The photo below was taken at the EAA Airventure Museum

Well, I'm taking this one more step. I have a friend that's VERY good in modeling, offer to do this one and model this one up for the flight sim. I've done the needed research and have all the info needed. 3-views, scale drawings, factory manual ...etc. I do however still need a scanned photo of the sponsors/sticker sheet for that portion of completion.

If anyone has access to the sticker sheet in the finest resolution possible [1600x1200 or 1024x768], It would be appreciated to have copy.

If not, I can get that also by paying a small fee.

Thanks for your time ;)

The hunt for useful info is going well. The photos I've aquired will better the originality in aid of the modeling process. Based on 53,000 poly count [FS2004], it should go well.

I'll update this thread as needed and when it starts taking shape even show a few screen shots.

For those of you who might be interested in helping this project come together, everyone will benefit in the end, and...who knows. You might better what will already be a great aircraft when it's finished ;)

Sincerely,

Motley D.

This may sound like a strange question [as I don't do modeling] What format to save to for use in flight sim?

Maya's native format is MA or MB ... I can translate the geometry/polys in IGES, IGS, STL, LWO, 3DS, VRL, and many others.

Private messaging has been disabled. Strange

The manual might be of use. I have one but yours could possibly be different.

Thank You

NICK Shame on you!

I had exactly that Chippie as an RC model in the 80's. Gorgeous flyer it was too. I have also been in gliders being towed up by a supermunk - GAWD!!! Phenomenal!

I WILL BUY! I have been begging for a supermunk everywhere.

@ Motley - Google for "Oregon" and "Super Chipmunk" - that is a "must paint" for me! And whoever is doing the mdl - do the night aerobatics version too. The Oregon team fly an SC with pyrotechnics for night demos. COOL.

The Super is an AWESOME plane. Real life or R/C. I had MANY a fun hours flying it. In fact I still have one RTF in the hobby room.

And Chris. (you're an awesome painter by the way)

I've been researching this for months. So far I've gotten over 200mb of reference material. This projects ready to be a done deal.

Problem is, my friend has ZERO experience with the simulator (modeling I mean) He's tried. And he's gotten VERY frustrated due to the fact that people who *do know* how to to model don't want to help. I can't understand this bull-headedness. Someone wants to better the flight sim experience for everyone, ( no charge for his services mind you ) but no one shares what they know. I've tried FSdeveloper. Supposedly that's where all the GURU's hang out that are supposed to know how to do things of this nature. I can't even get answers there.

Just to clear the air. I know the same people come here to watch what's going on. They'll see this thread. To be honest I hope they read this. Because I've the impression that they all feel threatened from someone that's new to the developing scene. What is this Fsdeveloper site? Why has it been made so anyone can join when the people don't share what they know? My opinion. If they don't want to share knowledge openly, then make the place BY INVITE ONLY.

I must apologize. But ....it's utterly rediculous!!

By the way. Rick Piper has made a beautiful chipmunk. As good - better than anyone I know that does modeling. I feel he should be the one to create the Super. If he was willing to share the source files with someone who had the reference material, a new, great plane would be born!!

OK......I've said more than enough. I won't be surprised if this reply gets deleted.

Sincerely, and honestly..

An apology

First off, I apologize for my manners in which I "popped".

I don't know, I guess I was just expecting something immediately to happen to resolve the problems my buddy Dave is having with the relationship of modeling for FS. Just listening to him he's all flustered. He wants to do the model for me. Because we're good friends. And, I'd really like to see it happen because it's always been one of my favorites in the radio control world. I can see where I'm not helping matters much having to play the middle man either. Trying to get answers I no nothing about to begin with.

Did I mention that I'm a green horn to the flight sim? Well, I am. About 2 months ago I knew nothing about it or what the heck I was doing. All I did know was .....I was really enjoying it and wanted to get into it more. I figured for the amount of money I've got invested in R/C, it would be nice for the times when I can't go flying outside during inclement weather.

I apologize to everyone here.

Sincerely,

Motley

Hi Chris. You are an inspiration. I've flown your Christian Eagle and have all the repaints. And I plan on doing a few of my own for that one ;)

You do nice work.

Here's my latest too. I had to redo the stripe order as I had it backwards. Next to get the ailerons & flaps back where they need to be. Amognst many other tidbits. :)

Far from being finished. Shooting for photo real ;)

Enjoy folks!
