VATSIM Pilot Client Project:
Dear community, I just wanna say that we make a good progress but anyway there will be no designated release date for now As I just moved from Germany to Australia it keeps me busy for some moments, so please give me some more time to go on with the AI traffic models and I will you as soon as I can the workpackages (for these ones requested to help ) and pointed to the VA the models for repainting as we got them already in stock. Stay tune for more and many thanks for your support in any kind of way! -
Dieses mal richtig gute Nachrichten von XSquawkbox!
64-bit XSquawkBox: We Have AudioWe have received a potentially useful Mac audio patch, and we are following up with the author now. I am out of the office next week, but I will try to post something more definitive about future beta plans later in August. In the meantime, we are all set for code contributions.

Gentleman,
I also just came across this threat. Its main topic is about XSquawkbox 64 bit, but since some of you mentioned the open source client currently under (inofficial) Vatsim development, it's woth to state some words.
As Oktalist alreay said, a team was formed in February 2013 to address the lack of a maintained pilot client for MS Fliight Simulators. The project started with focus on MSFS, since XSquawkbox is alive and maintained. After a long discussion the majority of the team including me came to the conclusion: do it cross-platform from the beginning instead of focusing on windows only (honestly I'm a linux guy). Cross-platform means of course support for X-Plane since FS is running on windows only and everything else would be useless. This means the target platforms are Windows, Linux and OSX (32bit as well as 64 bit). The repository is at the moment compliant with this requirement and we make sure they will with any further commit.
Long story short: We are making good progress. The team consists of excellent developers and I'm really glad to have them on board. We are at the moment implementing all the needed core features. The simulator specific implementations will probably start in the coming months.
Our project manager Sascha posted some GUI suggestions in the official vatsim forums. They were basically only designs, to get a feeling which of them the majority of Vatsim wants to have before implementing them. Unfortunately the official Vatsim forum is down at the moment, but if someone is interested I can post them here as well. Apart from that, the GUI implementation started one week ago and is currently in progress.
This is the summary of the current status. We are far away from a beta status. I think someone mixed this up with XSquawkbox. We can't and won't make assumptions when it will be released, but it will definitly not happen this year. But we are progressing and I'm optimistic we are able to release someday.
The whole project (besides the parts covered by the Vatsim NDA) will be open sourced with the release.
Of course we are always interested in new members joining the team. If somebody wants to, he can either contact our PM Sascha or me.
So long,
Cheers Roland

Hallo liebe Community,

Nun viel Spass beim Kommentieren.
SaschaQuelle: http://board.vacc-sag.org/49/52348/page6/#post684691
64-Bit XSquawkBox – We Need Mac AudioIn a previous post I listed two bits of code we were looking for: a 64-bit clean port oflibxplanemp (which XSB, Pilot’s Edge and X-Ivap use for multiplayer visualization) and a rewritten audio HAL for OS X, since the old one we use is based on technology from 1635.
Well, we don’t need libxplanemp anymore – if you look at github you’ll see we have a 64-bit branch, so that’s taken care of. In fact, the only thing we need is Mac audio.
When we have Mac audio, we can figure out how to run a beta program. If enough time goes by eventually I can code it myself, but code for VATSIM is something I do in my spare time when not working on X-Plane itself and chasing a two-year-old around the house. (His idea of a fun time does involve feeding plastic food to a stuffed dog but does notinvolve sitting quietly and watching me code. Who knew?
So if you are the kind of person who knows how to write code for OS X and can hack out a new implementation of the audio interface, you have the power to get things moving in a big way.

Damit schlägt LOC1 sofort an.
