  1. Hey guys,

    I really love this plane.

    I've been thinking about doing an "around-the-world-tour" in a GA forever, however there's one thing I'd direly need for that:

    the Autopilot

    Autopilot STEC30 with Altitude Hold (requires optional HSI or Directional with HDG bug)

    • Directional Gyro with heading bug (requires Autopilot STEC30)
      • GPSS (requires Autopilot STEC30)

      [*]Horizontal Situation Indicator NSD 360A Slaved (requires Autopilot STEC30)

      available as optional equipment according to the official Diamond website

      Maybe something you could consider (at least for the Eclipse)?

      Thanks, Stefan

      P.S.: Would fit perfectly into the one empty spot left ;-)

  2. Yes, in most flying aspects. Maybe a few more little features.

    The things it will not have are all the maintenance stuff and so on.

    One note on dieseling effect.

    It appears, if the engine is hot (after landing for example and can be avoided if you open throttle after switching off the ignition. This often helps :-)

    Cheers, Joachim

    Will it have a Hobbs meter? =)

  3. another one:

    I was fiddling around with the oil and haven't been able to close the oil-access-door since then.

    It will now fly around in the wind when in the air.

    Everything else is closed.

    Clicking on it either at "ground equipment" or directly on the oil page will not move the door.

    If I click on it multiple times it will sometimes flicker but not move.

    I can't do a screenshot right now, but if necessary I will do so later!

  4. Stefan, would you describe the sound you're hearing as a popping sound? I'm getting a sound under the same circumstances as you; to me it sounds like a speaker popping, kinda like an issue that cropped up in the Airbus X where there was a popping when the battery was turned on .

    Yep.

    Popping fits nicely ;-)

  5. Hello Again,

    After reading the manual a second time to confirm I was using the radios correctly I can confirm that in realistic mode it is not possible to tune certain frequencies for example 130.425 at Halton (EGWN). The frequency is displayed as 130.42 in the radio window and you cannot talk to the FSX ATC as it does not seem to recognise the frequency as being tuned. The radio does however work perfectly in simple mode.

    Many thanks

    David

    The problem is that the realistic COM unit as well as the transponder operate "outside of FSX". They will not pass the value on to FSX itself which is also why those modes are not compatible with external hardware.

    However, I don't have any clue why it was designed this way ... =P

  6. Some pull to the left is normal (caused by the prop).

    I've got the same problem though, unpredictable stick forces...

    I could somewhat manage it by adding a passenger with 70kg to the normal 85kg pilot (no luggage), however behavior is still erratic and I agree, manual flight is a lot of work therefore...

    Sometimes it pulls to the left and sometimes to the right when experimenting with different weights with unforeseeable results...

    I've also tried to counteract it with the trim-tabs

    What are your realism settings? Maybe this is built in to counteract torque, p-effect or something else...

  7. True, but some people can't contact FSX ATC when they need a freq that ends with .xx5. So your explanation is fine, but it won't help those people who can't contact ATC! ;) I haven't tested it myself but maybe the internal freqs of this virtual Katana don't handle the .xx5 as they should and actually turn it into x20 and .x70, unlike its real world counterpart

    For me contacting EDDB tower on 120.02(5) works fine.

    You need to set the radios to simple though. The "realistic" mode doesn't pass the values on to FSX (same with the transponder)

    As I said to Marcel privately, this is possibly the most sophisticated add-on for FSX yet, certainly the most complex GA, and so far many of the `issues` reported are clearly the result of customers not applying the correct mindset...

    If someone truly wants to buy something as detailed and in-depth as this and only apply the most superficial of approaches to using it, then they probably bought the wrong thing. But there's no qualifying for consuming other than the cash...

    The problem is that this clouds the real and genuine issues that are being brought up, prevents proper cross-checking and verification - and provides a less enjoyable forum experience for those who want to treat the product with the sophistication it deserves.

    The topic around us is the perfect example - is there a frequency select issue, or is it muppetry? Buggered if I know. :mad:

    The only issue that was reported multiple times was the barely visible prop, which is different from most other addons, although it is fairly realistic.

    This forum isn't there for you to scare new "pilots" away. Not everyone was born knowing everything there is.

    This addon is one of the few that can lead new(ly interested) people to a more realistic flying, so there is a learning curve involved for many.

    If you are bothered by the posts, just don't look.

    I'm sure you can contact the developers more directly with your genuine bugs!...

    I don't like flying with kiddies that much either, but I'd rather they ask their questions here and get some helpful answers instead of bashing around saying that the product sucks because they can't understand it and nobody want's to explain it.

    I prefer that they ask here and not fly on VATSIM later on without knowing squash!

    ==> I understand your position, but please stay friendly or out of the discussion here!!

    (as with my original sound issue post. You had no clue what my problem was and yet you assumed that I didn't either!)

    Cheers and enjoy your Easter Sunday,

    Stefan

  8. I tried pulling the knob out, but I still can't get the third decimal value. I can get to 122.97 but not 122.975. If I'm not mistaken, some real-world aircraft have a toggle switch that allows you to switch between a zero or five for the third decimal value (which isn't displayed); but I can't find anything that would allow me to change the third decimal value. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure it out. Also, FSX crashes to desktop after every flight.

    But other than those minor issues, this thing is incredible!

    In real life there are the following frequencies (except in the "world of 8.33", which doesn't concern us in a Katana)

    frequency => shown as

    xxx.x00 => xxx.x0

    xxx.x25 => xxx.x2

    xxx.x50 => xxx.x5

    xxx.x75 => xxx.x7

    Most of the time (if you're not flying with high-end equipment) you will get a display that shows the right column, although internally it does set the frequencies in the left column.

    Since there is no .x20 or .x70 there is not chance of using the wrong frequency!

    If you're using higher end equipment (or if you want to fly above FL195 in most countries) you will need a com-unit with 8.33khz spacing. Those show one more digit, but that's a whole other story =)

  9. Hi,

    Seems to be a really good product. So far I've only found one glitch. When using the Radio's in realistic mode I can't tune some frequencies. For example 130.425 etc even though I have 130.42 in the radio window I can't transmit. I was wondering if there is a work round this???

    David

    PS I have quite a few hours in a real Katana and this is very realistic.

    For now the workaround is to switch to the "simple" radio, which seems to work just fine (tested on VATSIM)

  10. I was wondering this as well. The CTAF at our airport is 122.975, but I can only set the radio to 122.95. I'm probably really ignorant for not knowing how this works, :blush: but I've only flown a real aircraft once. Most of my knowledge of aviation comes from flight sims, and I've never encountered this before.

    You need to right-click on the inner knob (in RL you pull it out) and then turn it!

  11. mmmmmm...

    If you are up to it, could you try to comment out this line in the panel.cfg, (just add // in front of it) and tell me if that solves the problem?

    gauge97=ASC!MAIN, 0, 0, 10, 10, 1

    Ok, I tried it.

    Apart from disabling all the custom sounds (naturally), the problem is still there - no change.

    But, I found out that it is related to what FSX treats as "engine sounds". When going through all the sound options in FSX, the problem can only be heard when you enable "engine sounds".

  12. mmmmmm...

    If you are up to it, could you try to comment out this line in the panel.cfg, (just add // in front of it) and tell me if that solves the problem?

    gauge97=ASC!MAIN, 0, 0, 10, 10, 1

    I'll need to get back to you with that. (~1h)

    Right now I'm flying a timed leg for the MEBAR with my beautiful Katana ;-)

  13. Mmmm this has been reported during the beta and it was looked into a lot (even I tried my hands). But as it just does not happen on my machine and that of many others it was one of those very hard to change things.

    Could you tell me the what your sound hardware is? And if the drivers are up to date? Perhaps we can find some common factor.

    Hey Mathijs,

    my sound-hardware(s):

    was: Audigy 2 ZS (current driver)

    is: VIA integrated on mainboard (current driver)

    I already removed the Audigy to see whether that helps, but it didn't.

    What I noticed though:

    If I select the Katana after a fresh start of FSX on the free-flight screen, this does NOT occur (my default flight is the original one). If I load the Kat after some other plane in a running "session", this occurs.

    As I said in the other thread, it's not a major issue, as idle is what I do not use ;-)

  14. Hello.

    Just bought it, looks like a very nice plane.

    I have what looks like a bug with the town array that I'm not able to switch off. I try the town array option with a right click but with no succes and I don't understand how I can put the town aray off.

    I also have a big yellow stuff attached at my tail and it shoulden't be the case if I look the ground attachement windows.

    Also the wheel fairing option does not match the graphical representation (if I understand well I should have no wheel fairing on the nose weel and I should have one on the left wheel)

    thanks for your help.

    The towbar issue happened once for me, I didn't encounter it since.

    Does this happen all the time?
