  1. I found Egelsbach service area easy but for the life of me I cannot find the area at london/Ontario airport

    any pointers ?

    Oh yeah and as Marcel pointed out. The service do take a while, so get a cold one when you go for this major overhaul and bepatient.. I am impressed to see the service being done with tools appearing etc and in the end it is nicely closed up and the tools removed.. Really nice feature.

  2. hi there mate. What speeds you putting down the flaps.. You need to be well within published speeds as per the manual. This plane is the best there is and actually put the word "simulation" back into flight simulation. This is not a "xyz" plane where you can put down the flaps when you want at whatever speeds you want. This is as real life as you can get. Watch those speeds when you operate the flaps. As longs as I adhere to the published speeds, I have yet to brake a flap..

    Beware this plane will put you in a very steep learning curve and how to operate within limits.. Absolute astonishingly.. It is the PMDG of GA planes..

    This is ONE plane where you HAVE to read the manual. It will save you a lot of problems and the result is more time in the air.

  3. sorry I can't confirm or check cause I don't want to kill my engine like yours :-)

    Are you sure you are still in realistic mode?

    by making a backup of data.cfg, you can test, and when finished with testing you can just restore the data.cfg file and you plane is in the same condition as it was before you did the testing

  4. Skudda

    Well i tried to simulate that for you.

    It seem to take ages to get it to get the engine to stop when leaving the oil cap off and to let it run dry by itself.

    A quick way to make sure the engine has basically no engine oil in to go into the Data.cfg and changed the oil level down to 0.5 liter and then try it again.

    Well I did not even made the end of the runway when I fried the engine and it quit on me

    Can you go to your data.cfg file and see if the oil level is really that low

    C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\4X_DATA\Diamond DA20-100 'Katana'

    replace xxxxx with your username

    find a file called data.cfg

    backup your data.cfg file.

    open with notepad.

    Here is the oil section:

    [CHARGES]

    CHARGE_BATTERY=19.856602

    LEVEL_OIL=2.740467

    LEVEL_LEAD_OIL_FILTER=0.013959

    RESIDUES_OIL_FILTER=0.132945

    TEMPERATURE_OIL_MIN=-18.000000

    TEMPERATURE_OIL_MAX=16.000000

    LEVEL_COOLANT=2.400000

    =50.000000

    LEVEL_LEAD_FUEL=0.161486

    then change the LEVEL_OIL= to 0.50000

    save the cfg file and restart FSX. try the katana now with really minimum oil and see what hapenn..

    to restore original settings just replace data.cfg with your "backup" data.cfg file or use the restore utilty to reset all entries (give you a brand new data.cfg file)

    By adjusting the data.cfg file directly, is just to make sure that the plane do have write access to the data file and infact update the data.cfg.

  5. I think the issue is with the initiation mode = automatic.

    Automatic is doing its own thing as I understand

    see page 1/11

    1.5.2 SETTINGS INITIATION MODE

    As soon as the Katana has been loaded, the

    add-on tries to figure out the situation of the

    aircraft to configure itself. (Automatic is selected) This mechanism can

    be overriden by selecting Cold and Dark or

    Parked.

    I quote few posts, that might share some light on the problem. I am trying to locate a specific post where Marcel explained all the different start modes and the respective consequences of each one, but I cant find it, I might be wrong but I am pretty sure cold and dark is as "some-one" else left it..

    I do use "parked" mode

    Parked mode comes before cold and dark. You could say parked means 'colder and darker' mode... tongue.gif Afaik the belt/strap isn't used in cold and Dark and the fuel is on. WIth parked fuel is off and the red strap is on. When you are in parked mode and turn the fuel valve on and remove the belt, you are (if I didn't miss a thing...) in cold and Dark mode

    The cold and dark does not imply all chocks are in place, control locks attached. Only that the engine is off, all electrics disabled.

    The scenario you want is PARKED.

    do you have system privileges to write to the file containing the state?

    http://forum.aerosof...rts-all-broken/

    ........As the core system information is held within these files, windows will not allow write to file, only read.So when you try and save something it needs to write to that file, whitch is in program files, where windows dont allow write.

    http://forum.aerosof...ng-save-states/

    Yes I am running realistic mode. I think it's the administrator rights... I keep forgetting about that. Is there anyway of making the software always run with administrator rights?

    EDIT

    I was thinking of "parked random" where it is left as used by someone else.

  6. Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but it is related.

    I'm new to the Katana, and so far very impressed. I do however have a small issue that I need some clarification on. I've installed the 1.01 Beta update (if that helps), but nothing has changed.

    My issue is this: I set the trim tabs and the plane flies very close to wings level, depending on power/cruise settings, and perfectly wings level at a "sweet spot" mentioned earlier. I complete my flight, and shut down the plane at parking. Put on the ground items such as tie downs, control lock etc. and close flight sim. When I come back to the Katana, do a maintenance check, and a service check, and the walk round, followed by a quick clean. Everything seems to be in order, no problems, all fluids checked etc. I start the plane and warm up, taxi, and then take off. The plane "feels" like the trim tabs haven't been set, and the hours the previous day are totally wasted, because I have to do it all over again before I can actually fly anywhere.

    Is this normal? Do you have to reset the tabs every single time you take her up? I'm finding I am spending too much time setting up the tabs, and running out of time to do any serious flying. It's rather spoiling the whole experience for me.

    I've checked the cfg file, and data is definitely being written and changed each flight, so I doubt it's a file issue there. Any thoughts on this? Oh I use the same weights for pilot every flight, and fuel is pretty close each time too (but not exactly spot on).

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, as at the moment I'm reduced to flying in simple mode to see if that helps.

    What is your start selections

    realistic/simple

    parked/cold and dark etc etc ect there a quite a few methods for the plane at start of sim.

    this determine a lot of things, so let us know first what is the conditions you selected when you start the sim. I know certain "parked" set it like it was parked by another user like in real life, today I fly the plane. tommorow someone else fly it and I will get the plane as it was left by the other guy and that is why I ask what your selection settings are as that might just be the culprit here, where you get the plane as it was left by a "somebody else" instead of in the condition used by yourself last time.

    Unfortunaletly I am not now by my machine so I cant check to see wht my settings are, but mine, pretty much have it settings as I left it the last time.

    Also look at this add on trim setting gauge

    http://forum.aerosof...-the-trim-tabs/

    set it to a value and then restart fsx and that way you can confirm if the trim settings have indeed been changed.

  7. Hey there,

    Just bought and installed the Katana 4X. I got my PPL in this aircraft.

    Now, I have a pretty good system can have 30+ fps with other aircraft, even complex aircraft like PMDG J41. I only get 0.3 fps with K4X???

    I have no idea what is going wrong here??? I have searched the forums, but didn't see anything related.

    My Specs:

    Windows 7 64B

    i7 950 OC'd to 3.9GHz

    6GB DDR3-2000

    GTX 460

    Coincidentally, it plays out just as if I has installed a RealityXP GPS in the aircraft... which unfortunately I cannot use anymore because it does the same thing and kills everything!

    I also notice several of my cores hard pegged at 100%... I never see this with any other aircraft!

    I might be able to shed some light for you as I had a similar issue.. Please send me your panel.cfg file to bliksimpie at gmail dot com

    For some reason some might have a erroneous entry with the RXP in the panel.cfg.. So let me have a look at your panel.cfg file.. it might be just a small correction.. but then on the other hand it might be something totally different to what I experienced. But lets give it a try.

    under the VC section there is gauge 46 and 47.. Only one should be active

    gauge46=fs9gps!gps_500, 1244, 12, 790, 742

    //gauge47=rxpGNS!GNS530, 1245, 1140, 790, 570

    in the example above the gauge 46 is active and 47 is inactive because it has // in front of gauge 47. Make sure that both entries do not look like this

    gauge46=fs9gps!gps_500, 1244, 12, 790, 742

    gauge47=rxpGNS!GNS530, 1245, 1140, 790, 570

    When you have both these entries active then you will get 0.3 fps and even worst sometime it will result in full crash to desktop.

    on the other subject is, do you have the patch installed.. ? this update have not yet been included in the latest download of katana and you must apply it afterwards

    http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/45157-open-beta-101-update/

  8. There's hardly any light at all. You're probably seeing the effect near Dusk which looks nice. But try flying in the dead of night and it's tough to read.

    The point is moot because apparently it's not for night flying anyway.... bah!

    Did you turn the light switch on the left side of panel all the way up. You also need to switch ON the lights at the switches between the seats. Even with this bad screenshot you can clearly see the two lights lightning up the left and right side of cockpit instruments

    katana.jpg

    here is switch between seats. If youd ont switch them on you can cranck up the lights on panel it will not illumunate the panel

    Sorry for poor quality. This is 22:00 at night..

    katanaa.jpg

    for me it is more then enough to help myself around the instruments if I have to fly at night/after dark

  9. I'm not sure I understand what this thread is all about. My Katana has a light that illuminates the gauges, not just the GPS and radio. the knob for it is on the left of the gauges, a black round knob with a white curved arrow on it. I use the mouse wheel to turn it up brighter. Is this not what you guys are talking about?

    Yes I know about that and it rather light it up nicely the instrument panel as a whole, so you dont really need backlighting.. but I think the other posters want MORE like backlighting

  10. i'm having the same issue- I guess as explained it's an FS bug... Although I wish we could add some sort of light to brighten things up. Has anyone tried any of the shockwave stuff?

    on youtube is a number of videos taken very late afternoon/early evening.. There is no backlighting in the real plane. Check the videos and even when the guy landed in total darkness you cannot see the panel gauges.. This plane has not been created for night flying... it is a daylight VFR plane
