  1. Just to revisit this for the benefit of simmers here.

my alias is obviously my surname, reversed (surely only a real dumbarse could miss that!)

Hi my new name is dumbarse, nice to meet you. :embaressed_s: I did indeed totally miss that, what a numbskull :embaressed_s:

  2. unfortunately it does not change anything. The rudder pedals oscillate too as soon as I touch them, like the joystick

Dirty pots in the controllers. I get this from time to time. Snave already said to recalibrate, and check null zones. I agree. Load the Katana, then bring up FSUIPC and go to the calibration tab. Without touching any controllers look at the numbers and see if they are constantly changing? If they are steady, move the controllers and let go again. Are they still steady, or they constantly changing? If they are constantly changing from the beginning, or after you move the controllers, then you DO need to recalibrate and check the null zones. Personally I would tick the "Aircraft Specific" box, recalibrate and check null zones anyway. This will set up a specific calibration for THAT particular aircraft paint. You may need to do this for each paint, or if you are adept at editing config files, check out the FSUIPC manual for how to use the "ShortAircraftNameOK" facilities so the same calibration will work for ALL the Katana paints.

You can also move your controllers in "full circles" several times, or for several minutes, to clean the pots. This may help.

  3. I was gonna say it was the oil filler panel flapping in the wind if you forget to close it, but Marcel said it's not something that happens in flight.

Nice touch by the way. I made the mistake of forgetting to close that flap, and I kept seeing this white thing appearing and disappearing out the corner of my eye. I use track IR so I sat up in my chair and could see the flap going up and down. Very realistic, and a very nice addition Marcel :)

I haven't found anything new yet, but I've only had 2 flights since I updated. Very short ones at that.

  4. I just went to my account too, and indeed the version number is (1.03) in bold just as I've written it there. I'm downloading it, simply because I appear to have MISSED the 1.02 update for some reason. My last version was 1.01.

Note to self: Check the forums more often.

I can't however find any references to a new version anywhere. I'll keep looking.

  5. I doubt it's FSUIPC to be honest, as he's NOT using it for his yoke. I would strongly encourage the course of action that snave has rather forcefully intimated, read the manual thoroughly. There is a section in there about setup, and is dedicated to the way you set up controllers. I would start there.

Because I too use FSUIPC for some controls, and FSX for others, I had to select the right settings on the Katana settings screen for how my controls were set up.

Just to be thorough, I would also suggest checking the FSUIPC.ini file for any dual entries, or conflicts and other potential problems. That is assuming you are using the payware version of FSUIPC, and can assign buttons and axis.

  6. I haven't got a clue personally, but I do know where you can get a modified default GPS like the one I have. If you go to the OZX forums http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/1552-adjusted-default-fsx-gps-gauge/ You can see what mine looks like, and what features it now has. As the Katana uses the internals of the default GPS, the terrain part of the GPS is what I see in my Katana, and the Katana has NOT been edited in any way. Any aircraft/Helicopter that uses the DEFAULT GPS will look the same okay.

I hope Aerosoft doesn't have a problem with me posting a link to a DEFAULT FSX edit?

  7. Thank you for the reply. I did, and always do check the "maintenance hanger" and the "Service sheet" too, and so far nothing has indicated there is a problem. I'll replace a few items and see if that fixes the problem. I would like to say though, that this is occurring even with a complete reset of the data file.

The start up sound is recycling every 2-3 minutes, and the drift also is moving far in excess of 30 degrees every couple of minute or so. It really does seem linked to that sound cycling, but that may just be me :(

Question on procedure: When you flick the switch for battery and the Artificial horizon initiates, should you wait until it finishes before carrying on with the starting of the engine? If you start the engine BEFORE it's finished, could that be causing the issue?

    Edit update:

I think I fixed my drifting issue by "replacing" the Avionics. That's the only thing I replaced, but I DID wait until the Artificial horizon had initiated before starting the engine. I did a very brief flight, it had to be brief because I couldn't get above 60 knots again, and the gyro drift was negligible. No wild fluctuations, and if there was any drift at all over the short flight, I didn't notice it. So I can say I'm happy with that, and a bit of knowledge has been obtained.

What I'm not happy about is that stupid engine power again. But that's something I'll have to work with until I get it right :(

  8. Yes all circuit breakers are in, but now I know it may be a possible fault I can start "replacing" or "repairing" parts of the electronics in the aircraft to see if there is a fault not showing up in the maintenance hanger. If I do them one at a time, I might find something. If not then I'll await other replies and go from there.

Thank you for taking the time to answer :)

  9. Hi guys, I find myself in need of some help with regards to the Gyro compass and the amount of drift I'm seeing. When it comes to the technical side of gyro drift, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a div. For those that aren't English, div means stupid, a dunce, a thicko. So there you have it, I'm stupid.

Anyway, can someone please explain why I appear to be getting excessive drift in the Katana? When I say excessive, I, me personally, feel it's excessive, but is it? I do know a gyro compass will drift very badly when doing sharp hard turns, aerobatics etc, but I'm not doing those things. I'm flying straight and level, mostly, with a bit of turbulence I'd guess,. But the compass drifts as much as 180 degrees. I seem be readjusting it every couple of minutes, is this normal?

I can't exactly compare this to anything else, because quite frankly, there's nothing else like the Katana for realism, but I've not noticed such a huge drift before. I was wondering if it was linked to a sound I'm hearing repeated over and over again all through my flights. The sound starts when you turn batteries on and the artificial horizon initiates, then it repeats at regular intervals throughout the flight. The drift "appears" to happen each time that sound restarts, but that may well be a coincidence.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  10. My initial response is yes it's possible, sort of. I have a modified "default" GPS, not as nice as the one you link to, but it does show a 3D terrain mesh with traffic on the screen, instead of the default 2D one. The Katana uses the default "insides" I believe, and it's only the outer bezel that has been modified. So if you can get THAT background into your default GPS, then it will show in the Katana.
