James,

That video is a nice touch. If you need more documentation about the 50/52 hsi see what I can do.

regards,

Col. Tom E. (USAF ret.)

Question Tom,

Is that the same as we use, as the EHSI with the Map knob in the center wich replaces the switch for NAV, TACAN, NAV/ILS, TACAN/ILS..as well as to set the info on beacons etc?

Best Regards,

Gents,

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

UPDATE 4/27/09 (FYI): I am currently working on the Block 50/52 (Digital) HSI. This is NOT a true EHSI as that doesn't exist for the F-16's A -> C (as far as I'm aware of). The digital HSI is a LCD image representation of an Analog HSI with slightly different color CDI needle(s) display and does NOT have all the added features of the EHSI. I will, however, try to keep it authentic to its look and function and allow for Menued EHSI features should users want to be able to use that as well. Keep in mind that I CANNOT replace the default Analog HSI in the center console of Aerosoft's F-16 with a new Block 50/52 one because that can ONLY be done in the model (.mdl) files by Aerosoft. Fred and I are only able to change all the gauge files.

Also, Fred has fixed many of the default HUD issues, from missing/not included items like SLANT Rng/Closure/DFGT modes, to incorrectly locational ROLL indications, excessive HUD elements "Bounce" and FPS improvements in the gauge rate updates. He has also completed updated his AN/APG-68 FCR with the SimConnect implementations for improved connectivity with IVAO and other Online servers; and, several function/feature improvements. I will be testing the new HUD/FCR this week and will post pic.'s shortly.

Finally, Thank you Col. Tom E. and Mr. TAFKAM for being forthcoming with F-16 pic.'s and information. If you can provide more [ONLY Un-Classified] Block 50/52 pictures/documentation to aid me in creating an accurate digital HSI it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your inputs and for voting in the poll.

James,

The documentation about the EHSI are kind of new, and im not allowed to share this documentation...

Maybe the Col. can...

By the way, maybe it would be a good thing for the people here to beta test these new gauges...

Best Regards

...Can you give the coordinates for the mouse selection areas for MFD TOGGLES?
Mr. Jan Frey-Bielecki,

When the BETA is released, documentation will be provided for the FSX Keyboard Function Key assignments along with the HOTAS (Cougar, Saitek X58, or other) for the MFD toggles. Currently, Fred has set it up to use the following Event Functions.

- Concorde nose & visor (extend) - the button for swapping the Display of Interest (DOI) to the opposite MFD (Display Management Aft)

- Concorde nose/visor (increase) - the button for cycling screen format on the current MFD to the next right format (Display Management Right)

- Concorde nose/visor (decrease) - the button for cycling screen format on the current MFD to the next left format (Display Management Left)

However, you won't need to modify the .xml file or use the Mouse for that as it will be Keypress events on your HOTAS joystick. The aim is to make it function like the real aircraft. The ONLY thing we CANNOT do (which is what we were hoping to get Aerosoft to do at a later date) is to update the model (.mdl) file to allow for the MFD softkeys to implement the CNTL events menu using the mouse clicks. But, if they decide not to do that, you will be able to use the mouse to click directly on the menu item on the screen itself. That is currently how all the MFD CNTL menu functions work.

Hope this answered your question(s).

Gents/Ladies,

The latest BETA of the AN/APG-68 Radar has undergone some testing and it was found to have a major issue; it wasn't maintaining its lock on the target if and when the F-16 pilot banked or pitched the aircraft off of the axis of flight; Fred is currently working on updates to fix this. Fred has also completed all the additions and fixes to the HUD and it now has more features and function much more like the real F-16's HUD.

EHSI has been subject to some tweeks and is undergoning a complete face-lift to look and function like the EHSI's pictured below. There are many internal functional changes that are also being done (too many to mention here). It will be some time before any pictures can be posted of this. But, I will have a small surprise for you all shortly.

Standby! ;)

PS: I've also been testing the new HDR: FLIR Visor and it looks like a "marriage made in heaven" with this F-16.

Gents/Ladies,

Fred got some source materials for a HSI used in F-16's (made by Lockheed-Martin here in the U.S.); I have been using it and researching for more info. - I should be getting more spec.'s from the manufacturer's shortly. These implementations are schedualed to be included to v0.27 along with the Block 50/52 version (i.e. a total of 3 different EHSIs <img src="http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" :o " border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> ). I wanted to know, for all those who voted for the 1000 Series EHSI, would you like to see it in the authentic F-16 version? Here are a few pics which include all the features already mentioned (e.g. Color CDI, WX, etc.) plus TCAS. And, as always, vote to let us know.

Authentic F-16 EHSI with Color CDI needles, MAP/Wx, & TCAS.

FYI: We have currently been working on BETA v.0.26 which revealed several bugs, namely in the AN/APG-68. But, also many fixes and additions to the Aerosoft Default HUD were completed (e.g. Hud Bounce and Misplaced ROLL indicators are now fixed). There is much more to come so please be patient and standby for bi-weekly updates.

Gents/Ladies,

I've received a number of requests and suggests regarding the AN/APG-68's MFD updates. Everyone has an opinion and there are a variety of E.lectronic H.orizantal S.ituation I.ndicators (EHSI) in use by different manufacturors today. To better understand the various needs/wants of users, I would like to get a an opinion poll to ensure that, with future varients, these needs will be met. Please keep in mind that this is a Work-in-Progress (WIP) and things will be updated to be more realistic and per your posted suggestions.

Here are a few samples and I welcome others:

Cyan EHSI: (Bottom Center MFD) Green EHSI: (Right MFD)

Current BETA v0.25 EHSI: from the U.ser E.nhanced P.ackage (U.E.P.).

It includes many features for NAVIGATION including Wx (Wind V/Alt./Baro.), Temperature, Time (ETA), VOR/TCN/GPS.

(GPS Menus are currently being considered for development).

Below are Pics of the HSD, FCR, EHSI, and HOTAS Axis SDK Test Page(s). Thank you.

James,

First of all, nice job to you and Fred,

Please i'd like you to change the words authentic EHSI colours.....maybe for the EHSI you looked for and found, but its not "THE" EHSI wich the Airforce uses these days....

And please dont say that the airforce just uses a normal HSI...I mean de EHSI the Airforces (some) uses...

But nice work indeed...and when will it finally be possible for downing for the fans?

Actually, there are now 3 EHSI - The Block 50 version Digital HSI (which you posted pictures of), The EHSI that the U.S. Air Force uses (that Fred found actual doc.'s about), and the 1000 Series "Made-Up" version of mine. So, the only one that's NOT authentic is the initial version I created which NO-longer exists any more. The Two main versions that I am working on are the Block 50 (Digital HSI) for users like yourself that requested it and the EHSI which is the one used here currently in the U.S. by many if NOT all F-16 C/D's in service today. That is all the facts I have; if you have more please feel free to share it and I will try and accommodate your request(s). So, these ARE 100% Authentic EHSI's.

...and when will it finally be possible for downing for the fans?

Are you asking when will it be released? I have already answered that before. Fred and I both do this on our "FREE time" and we both have an elderly parent that we support, other "grown-up" responsibilities, and somewhat of a social-life (believe it or not). We will do our best, please be patient.

:)
