Octavi IFR-1 : Setup with MSFS default C172

This tutorial will show how to setup the Octavi IFR-1 to interface with default MSFS aircraft.
We will use the default C172 with GNS-530 and GNS-430 avionics.

NOTE :
The Octavi IFR-1 is basically intended to be used with MobiFlight as it will so unleash its full capacity.
As mentioned on the Octavi website :
MobiFlight is a free open-source tool that lets you choose which of Octavi's buttons controls which function freely.
Due to the large community  behind MobiFlight, configurations for many custom aircraft are easily available.
They even maintain a simple-to-use library of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 “events”,
or in other words functions that you can  assign to buttons.

>> For a full system description, links and instructions, please check the Octavi website.

However, if you don’t want to program any button and don’t use (complex) addons, there is a small plugin
that will link the Octavi IFR-1 buttons to the default MSFS functions.
This is what we are going to demonstrate in this tutorial.

STEP 1 :

Download and install the plugin files.
There are 2 parts :
1 – The event module :
Download it from this link and unzip the contained folder in the Community folder.

2 – The plugin application :
Download it from this link and unzip it onto your desktop.

STEP 2 :
Connect the Octavi IFR-1 to the computer via the supplied USB-C cable.

STEP 3 :
Start MSFS and load the Cessna 172 Skyhawk

STEP 4 :
Open the Octavi MSFS 2020 Plugin_vxxx folder and

run Octavi MSFS Plugin.exe as administrator

STEP 5 :
A black window pops up simply showing the Octavi IFR-1 is connected to the computer.
You can minimize it, but do not close it. It must be running to allow interface with MSFS.

STEP 6 :

You are all set !
The base system is first to select what instrumentation you want to operate.
Press one of the Context buttons (3) and depending on the nature of the instrument selected,
change its frequency (1), switch from STDBY to ACTIVE (2)
navigate in the menu systems (4) (5)
or change the autopilot parameters (5)

Please login to display this image.

In the case of the MSFS C-172 Skyhawk default aircraft, these are the on-screen instruments
corresponding to the Context buttons of the Octavi IFR-1 :
