But when the new firmware will be available, those units will be recognized as standard HID and interfacable as such.

This is what I am holding out for.  If I can't drive them with SPAD they'll be pretty looking paper weights.

Do we have any idea when this is likely to be?  I'm guessing this will be one of those "When its ready!" deals.  If that part works, I'll be buying all but the EFOS.  Though that might be on the cards later.

  2. All true, though it's odd when I get this from Virtual Fly themselves when I asked them about the units.  Emphasis in bold:

    Dear Howard,

Thank you for contacting us, bellow you can see all my reponses:

    - About footprint, you can see it in each TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS tab of the product ( at the bellow part)

    - About the stability I recommend you that you install the SW-engines at the left part of the YOKO+ in vertical mode (if you don't have enough space). You can see bellow the vertica option. Then you can join SW Radios, SW trims and SW lights at the right side. As you can see in the bellow images these modules have anti slip legs and “H” connectic pieces between modules to get a good stability.

    - In few days we will have some extra clamps that will let you join the modules with the table (bellow you can see an image)

    - They are ready to mount on top the desktop

    - Good idea the website virtual representations, my colleagues from marketing department can get a good idea.

    - The modules only work with VFHub, VFHub let you customize some buttons if you want.

Marketing does funny things to people, so perhaps they just didn't want to endorse an alternate product, while not acknowledging their own products shortcomings.  They were quite forthcoming when I expressed in interest in their product, but the second I brought this issue up I never heard a peep out of them after that.

If you can wait until next week, I will make a tutorial on these.

Thanks.  I'm pretty familiar with SPAD.  Some aircraft require complex setups to get things to behave how you would like.  A relatively recent example of this was the initial release of the Cessna 414, and its landing lights.

They have three states: retract, deployed, and deployed, and on.  There is a delay between when the lights are deploying, and when you can actually turn the lights on.  SPAD lets you bypass that, so for realism an artificial delay needed to be inserted, at least before the developer did this themselves.

If SPAD can see each of the individual switches, regardless of whether you get a pretty graphic of the real unit or not, then I'd be happy.

That said, they are expensive units to take a punt on only to find I can't configure them how I want.  I'd be interested in getting all of them except the EFOS, mainly to replace my Logitech gear.  They look really well built, like all of VF's stuff.

  4. Hi,

I can't find much about these online, and since they are being sold on the Aerosoft site, and reportedly available for dispatch, I was wondering whether anyone here has used them yet.

I have some concerns over how configurable they will be.  After looking at the VFHub software I would have to go with "not very".

If however they could be configured with SPAD, I would most definitely buy them.

Having this only tested by people who simply do not know how it should sounds (without the bugs of course) seems not a very good idea.

The same could be said of those making the plane as well.  Just sayin'.  😉

I hope you get a long list of testers to help you out with this.  It's been a long time coming, and expectations as well as hopes are running high.

Greatly looking forward to smoother/better/louder/more appropriate sounds for the Twin Otter.

@Mathijs Kok you had said numerous times that the Twin Otter cockpit is unbearably loud. This was my experience as well, and I look forward to that experience in the sim with the Twin Otter soon enough.

Yes, I too look forward to unbearably loud audio that may cause hearing damage. 🤦‍♂️

  7. I think I may have misunderstood the situation in that case.

My understanding was they were trying to get the owner of a Twin Otter to put their plane through some amount of stress to get new recordings, that new recordings would be taken.  The issue of finding someone willing to allow their plane to be put through its paces to record audio was the hold up, and not licensing some already recorded audio files.

I’m sure I can dig out quotes that imply this.

But however they got them it’s fantastic news.  I just hope they have improved their WWise skills in the meantime.

  8. I haven't had a chance yet, but I plan to go over the config files for 1.05, and 1.06 to find out what else has changed.

I flew it bit over the weekend, including some steep approaches into St. Barts, and it definitely feels a bit nicer than before.  You can still observe the point where the spoiler kicks in, and you transition from level flight into a dive with the tiniest adjustment of the power lever, but it is manageable.

I hope future sim versions clear up the ground handling though, as I find that on touchdown it can get a little squirrely, but in a way I don't see in other planes such as the Kodiak, Arrow or Warrior II for example.

The last update was only 20 days ago, why do you now think it is abandoned?

Sorry, I was thinking more long term.  You had previously said that you weren't going to be sending out any more updates until the audio issues were resolved, which prompted me to ask, in light of no sound source forthcoming, whether that would mean no more updates at all.

I'm glad to see you have rolled back on that decision, and I look forward to further updates from you.

  10. So in light of this very thorough explanation as to why the new recordings are not available, would it not be sensible to revisit the question of releasing non-sound related fixes instead?

Or is the position to never release another patch for this plane because the audio is unavailable?

MSFS development marches on unabated, new prop physics, CFD etc.  Is the Twotter destined to languish in its current state because of the audio, or do we just draw a line under the audio issue, and address that when possible while continuing to work on things that can be improved right now as there are no external blockers?

  11. I'm sure I've read about other "Toggle..." bindings that no longer work, and my assumption is that these are core sim issues only, and for Asobo to fix.

  12. Reverse thrust on one engine, with gentle forward on the other lets you spin on your axis, so I can confirm this works.  Perhaps not by the book, but there you go.
