  1. Hi to All .-)

thx very much to Peter for new version 0.911 .-) I confirm too, that it works on vista 64 without problems !-)

I attached my experience from first run to feedback section. Now is finally time to try possibilities of CumulusX!! .-) Thx.

    Sněhulák .-)

    Hello Snowman,

welcome to our virtual airfield pub. Get yourself a beer, sit down with us around the big round table and listen and tell those tales about never flown flights... nazdraví ! :cheers2:

All right, now back to CumulusX!

    Peter, Ian,

yesterday Bert and I were able to get both running, CumulusX! (V 0.911) and Sim_Probe.exe under Vista64 on my new rig. Bert did hand me those files over via email as Virtualsoaring was down the last couple of days - hope you both don't mind. I first had some troubles first due to the missing C++ Runtime. Then, after installation of the Runtime-Lib I managed to get Sim_Probe active. We started a multiplayer session afterwards (Bert started it, I just took part as client) in Sion and got airborne with slew-mode. After adjusting my CumulusX!-Settings to exactly those of Bert and a lot of trial-and-error trials Sim_Probe and CumulusX! started to work together (2nd indicator on CumulusX! main window turned green). I have to admit that most errors were clear error40s (Error was sitting 40cm away from screen) but still... one fatal error remained and we were not able to get it fixed. After starting Sim_probe and activating it via FSX-Menu->Options->Settings->General->Okay (with no changes) the indicator turnes green and the debug window of CumulusX! shows changing SimProbe-values. Additionally I was able to see pink parachutes (with pink boxes) fall to the ground around my DG808s. Seconds after the first Box kind of explodes on the ground surface (that happens everytime the parachute falls down to ground-level and you can here a crash-sound wher this happens), the CumulusX!-Sim_Probe-indicator-light turns RED. Another part of a second later the SimProbeExists-value turns to False and the other SimProbe-value locks on whatever the last lift-factor had been.

After a few more tests I can tell you now that the issue has nothing to do with multiplayer mode as it works (or does not work, to be more precisely) the same way while flying offline in free-flight-mode.

It would be great if you could help me fix that issue.

    Dirk.

  3. Hello and a big SORRY to you Norm,

I was quite busy last weeks.

Your system sounds very good to me. The 8800GT is what I bought myself today (waited for about six weeks for delivery now). With this system you'll be happy enough. FS2004 will run on all settings turned up to eleven and even FSX should show up on very high settings.

I'll set up my new rig tonight so - hopefully - I can tell you more tomorrow. My setting is just slightly different, therefore you may get an idea of what you can expect.

    Dirk.

    Dirk, (and others)

Your point on RAM is well taken; here are the specs for a COMPLETELY different Dell machine... comments for how stout this is for FS2004 and/or FS_X:

    XPS 720 Black Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 (4MB L2 Cache,3.0GHz,1333 FSB)

Operating System Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition

    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs

Video Cards 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT

    Hard Drive 500GB - Seagate 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

Well, that's too bad. Is it just failing to connect, or are the sessions even not listed? Anyway, I hope we all will have SP2 soon. At least CumulusX! seems working well with SP2.

    best regards,

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

As far as I know: Us accelerated people usually don't even see the other (not accelerated) sessions. But we're still able to see those sessions by using a little tweak. First one has to request a join to a friend's session (who must be online of course). Then, while FSX:A searches the session, hit the cancel button... voilà! You see those other sessions as well. But still, one cannot join those SP1 sessions.

As far as I hope: I really have hopes that, once the SP2 will be released (the download one, not the ACC:SP2), it will bring us back together. :ok: :yahoo:

BTW: Source of my hope is Phil Taylor himself, as you can read in the comments of this article of his weblog He writes there, answering the Question "You mention SP2 multiplayer compatibility with FSX Acceleration. Will SP2 users be able to have full MP support (including shared cockpit features) with Acceleration users and non-SP2/Acceleration users?":

Shared Cockpit is under investigation, it may not work due to the new engine sim vars ( supercharger, ADI, engine damage, helo 3-turbine support ) which has changed what needs to be synchronized between the app. No promises.

    Other than that, yes.

Note, having any "cross-version" compatibility is tough and most multiplayer games require the same patch level. So getting SP2 and Acceleration to MP together at all is an accomplishment.

  5. Thanks Dirk! I've tried some multiplayer sessions and only one race setting as an observer in FSX.

You're welcome. Multiplayer is great fun, if you have some time. Have already had some nice flights with Bert (bruin) in countires all over the world. Just, if you open a glider session, give a speaking name - like "gliders soaring germany" or similar - you will have to wait some minutes till the next player joins with a DG-808. From the point, when there are 3 players or more in the session, you can fly for hours, never beeing alone. Every some minutes someone joins or leaves.

I've tried the glider race yesterday but somehow nobody joined in, so i've flown it all alone :vv:

All described has happened at my usual flight times (around 20:00 zulu).

    now back to topic:

With some of Wolfgangs other gliders I still encounter the transparency issue. Mostly at the small window in the canopy, not for the canopy itself. I'll make some further investigation tonight and leave Wolfgang a message with the reults. If you're interested I'll copy the mail and (if allowed by Wolfgang) the result here.

  6. I understand, and take your time. We made it home okay last night, but my son came down with a severe cold, so I may have an off chance that I could see for myself today.

    Thanks Dirk

    sf4JC

Now, as it turns 9:30pm local time my boss :big_boss: felt okay with me leaving office and as I found my wife asleep... :whistling: IT WORKS! :respect: :yahoo:

Have fund with the discus! BTW: Did you already tried out the FSX:A multiplayer racing mode?

  7. I just noticed this morning that Wolfgang Piper has had recent updates to some of his aircraft, and one new aircraft. If anyone has Acceleration/SP2, can you tell me if the VC Canopy transparency in the Duo Discus X has been fixed? I'm away for the holiday, and I was just wondering. Cannot wait to get home to see.

    sf4JC

    Hi,

i'll try it out in the evening, if both - my job and my wife - let me have some time for flying.

    Best Regards,

    Dirk.

  8. Hello to All!

I am going to purchase a new Desktop in the next month, and want it to be capable of handling MS Flight Simulator (previously I had FS98 on an ageing machine)

I do NOT want a Vista system, as I have a LOT on (non FS) software that is very stable on XP SP2; with no reliable local build-up shops locally, I'm looking at Dell. FWIW, Dell has FEW machines shipping with XP; NOTHING with a speed greater that 3...

Current specs in the Wish List:

    Inspiron 530 Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4600 (2MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,800 FSB)

Operating System Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition

    Memory 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 4DIMMs

Monitor 22 inch Samsung 2220WM Widescreen Analog/Digital Black LCD Monitor

Video Cards 256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600

XT Hard Drives 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™

    Optical Drive 16x DVD+/-RW Drive

Sound Cards Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

    Hi Norm,

    my first thougts are:

Why d'you waste money for 4GB of RAM, while you do not even consider about using Vista? XP can NOT handle more than 3.2 GB!

Your Monitor will run on 1600x1050 pixels, won't it? So probably you'll get into an issue with those 265MB graphics RAM - you should update here, i think.

That's all for now... but I'll get into detail later.

    Regards

    Dirk.

  9. Hi Peter, (Bert, Don...)

first, to give you an overview:

    My Computer runs

    XP Home with SP2,

    .NET Frameworks 1.0.3705 German, 1.0 Hotfix KB928367, 2.0, 2.0 Language Pack DEU, 3.0, 3.0 Languagepack DEU

on an 2.4GHz Intel Pentium IV (Low Budget PC: noname OEM Mainboard, 768MB RAM PC6200, XFX GeForce 6200 with 512Mb RAM)

FSX runs with 17 FPS locked (with or without CumulusX!, doesn't matter!)

    FSX SP1 installed

FSUIPC running, Object Placement Tool and Traffic Toolbox (SDK components) active, as usual

Additional information for you Peter: I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Pro and an (inactive) SQL Server 2005 on this machine also.

    Okay, my first try:

    Started FSX

    Started Flight

    Switched FSX to Window-Mode

Moved Plane to slope area (in my case: around S43.25E171.00) via slew mode

    then Started up CumulusX! (V0.32)

    Connected to FSX

Turned On Slope (Button got RED)

Switched Back to FSX and flew around.

Did it work? I don't really know. Therefor I'll add a screenshot

    With deepest programmers respect

    Dirk.

  10. Hello Guys,

    time to say hello.

As beeing involved in software development every working day, I thought I probably might be able to help Peter with some further information. That's just if he want's another alpha-tester.

My only problem is that I left out some versions of MSFS (think it was FS3 to FSX). I enjoy soaring around in FSX, usually in multiplayer mode with some fellows from all over the world. I think that's one great new feature. Okay, I must admit, for me everything is new and obviously great too.

Enough. Peter aka Funky, if you would like me to test, let me know.

    Best Regards from Germany,

    Dirk
