Multiple Enroute Alternates

Recommended Posts

Hi,

would it be possible to implement an option where we can choose for several ERA along the route?

For example, we could select some adequate airports as enroute alternates and not just one as for now.

Here is an exemple of a RW FPL where it's implemented:

EET/ZGZU0017 ZHWH0105 ZHCC0127 ZBPE0153 ZMUB0249 UNKL0421 UNNT0525 UNLL0603 USRR0642 USHH0702 USSS0728 UUYY0748 ULKK0827 ULWW0847 ULLL0916 EETT0946 EVRR1013 ESAA1019 EKDK1053 EDVV1105 EHAA1120 EGTT1147 REG/BKPW PBN/A1B1C1D1L1O1S1 SEL/PRKS RALT/EFHK UAKK ZSPD DOF/130912 RMK/ACAS II ADSB

Thanks

The "en route alternate" in the Alternates section is for the purpose of reducing contingency fuel to 3% of trip fuel under EU-OPS.

If you wish to add more aerodromes to the RALT field, you can manually edit the ATS flight plan.

Also a note on terminology: an "adequate" aerodrome is one that you might be able to operate out of (adequate runway length and pavement strength, rescue and fire fighting services, air traffic services, etc.) These are used for determining whether your flight is an ETOPS/LROPS/EDTO flight or not (if you are within 60 minutes [for twins] of an adequate, then the flight is not an EDTO flight). For planning as an alternate, the aerodrome must be "suitable", which means that the weather is suitable for a landing (there are specific rules on this EU-OPS or whatever rules you follow).

Ok, so I Have 3 more questions:

- How to manually edit the ATS flight plan?

- Why the "3% Contingency Fuel ERA" is not indicated in the ATS RALT Field?

- According to EU-OPS, is it ok to select the same airport as an ETOPS alternate and as the reduced contingency fuel alternate?

Thanks for your answers

  • How to manually edit the ATS flight plan?

On the 'Results page click on ATC/Modify

  • Why the "3% Contingency Fuel ERA" is not indicated in the ATS RALT Field?

Because the RALT field is for ETOPS alternate only. The enroute alternate is just for fuel planning and not indicated on the ATC flight plan

  • According to EU-OPS, is it ok to select the same airport as an ETOPS alternate and as the reduced contingency fuel alternate?

Yes, as long as the airport meets weather criteria for ETOPS planning
