highplainsflyer 20
November 1, 2017 Nagasaki to Chubu Air Central The next day takes me over land again (mostly) with a trip from Nagasaki to Chubu Air Central. The log is at http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/110794. Most of my time over Japan was in fog and rain. The Chubu Air Central scenery is made by Pacific Island Sim Please login to display this image. Please login to display this image.
highplainsflyer 20
October 31, 2017 Jeju to Nagasaki The next morning's flight was from Jeju in South Korea to Nagasaki Japan. This flight was mostly over ocean. FSX crashed in the middle of the flight, and I restarted it where it crashed (thank you FSUIPC!) I have attached two logs: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/110750 http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/110773 The Jeju scenery is by Pacific Island Scenery. The Nagasaki scenery was by Wing Creation
highplainsflyer 20
November 1, 2017 Chubu Air Central to Shizouka The next flight was a short flight from Chubu Air Central to Shizouka Mount Fuji airport. The Shizouka scenery was by Wing Creation. The flight log and map: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/110849 FSX crashed, so part of the flight record was lost. highplainsflyer 20
November 2, 2017 Shizouka to Tokyo Haneda (Yokohama) Another goal post was made by a flight to Yokohama. Since Yokohama does not seem to have an airport, I flew into Haneda airport. There do not appear to be any nice freeware or payware FSX or P3d sceneries for this airport. I loaded an old FS2004 verson of Haneda by Overland. For the most part, this scenery worked well. My flight log and map: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/110902 Most of the flight was through clouds and rain. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
Break November 3 to November 29, 2017 I had been contemplating the flight from Japan to Russia. It was becoming increasingly obvious that the Cessna 172 did not have the range to make a success Pacific (and Atlantic) crossing. The C172 was chosen because I was trying to do this adventure along with Air Hauler 2. I had hoped that in that game I would be able to afford a better plane by the time i reached this point. However, by the time I arrived at Mumbai, it was becoming obvious that this was not to be, in that I would need approximately 300 flights in this game before I could afford a better plane. So, I dumped Air Hauler 2 but kept the C172. However, for the next goal of San Francisco, a better plane would be required. I opted for the C172's big brother, the Cessna 182. However, I really like the G1000 system, and wanted to continue using that. I tried a couple of flights with the Carenado 192 with the G1000, but my controls were not working. I had no elevator or rudder. The problem ultimately appeared to by with FSX. I had been running this install of FSX for about six months, so it was about time for it to become corrupt and start malfunctioning. So I finally installed Prepar3d V.3. Prepar3d V4 did not quite strike me as being ready for prime time; many addons are not yet available for it. I also tried to switching to the Flight 1 C182. In many ways, I actually like the Carenado G1000 better than the Flight 1 version. But I started having real problems with the Flight 1 model quitting on me for reasons unknown. I did not feel like bird dogging the problem, but found that my Carenado C182 was working in Prepar3d V3. Usually problems like this would cause me to quit the adventure. However, after a break of nearly a month, I got started again.
highplainsflyer 20
November 29, 2017 Haneda to Fukushima After a long break and a new plane, the Flight 1 C182, I resumed the adventure with a flight from Tokyo Haneda to Fukushima. The log is here: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113506 Flight tracker did not start automatically, and I did not discover this until the flight was almost over. highplainsflyer 20
November 29, 2017 Fukushima to Sendai The second flight of my resumed adventure was from Fukushima to Senda. The tracking software again was not functioning properly again, to most of the flight was not recorded. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
November 30, 2017 Sendai to Sapporo The next flight takes me to Japan's northern island, Hokkaido. Sapporo is the capitol of this area. Again there were not FSX or P3d sceneries for this airport. However, Overland had a scenery for FS 2004, which actually worked pretty well. The map and log for this flight is http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113605 Please login to display this image.
highplainsflyer 20
November 30, 2017 Sapporo to Nakashibetsu Nakashibetsu is the airport closest to the Kuril islands and will be my jump off point for the long haul to Kamchatka. The log and map are here: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113626 The Nakashibetsu scenery is a freeware airport. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
December 1, 2017 Nakashibetsu to Petro Pavlovsk Kamchatka This was a long 809 nm flight which lasted over seven hours. It was mostly over water, but paralleled the Kuril islands. This was the longest leg of the round the world adventure. My original C172 did not have the range to do this flight, but the C182 did. I did not want to use abandoned airstrips, secret bases or fuel cheats, which is why I switched the the 182. The flight map and log is at: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113680 The Kamchatka scenery was from Aerosoft. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
December 2, 2017 Kamchatka to Shemya The next leg was also a long one at over four hours and 600 miles. Again, it would have been at the extreme range of the C172. Almost all of the flight was over ocean and there was no place for secret bases or abandoned air strips. The weather was foggy almost all of the way and the flight was at 11,000 feet with the use of oxygen. Horrendous crosswinds were experienced at Shemya. I need to practice crosswind landings a lot more -- I just have not experienced cross winds of this nature before. The log and map is at http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113785 The Shemya scenery was a freeware scenery. Please login to display this image. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
December 2, 2017 Shemya to Adak Another over the water Aleutians crawl. Again I was met with strong cross winds. The flight log and map is here: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/113814 I took a short detour to view the airfield at Attu. The weather was cloudy most of the trip. The Adak scenery was a freeware scenery. Please login to display this image.
highplainsflyer 20
December 3, 2017 Adak to Dutch Harbor The next morning was another Aleutians hop of 488nm and two and one half hours -- mostly over water and with overcast skies. There were strong winds at Dutch, so three attempts at an approach were made. The landing is tricky because there is a mountain to the side of the airstrip -- and yes, planes have crashed into this mountain in real life -- especially in the days where the strip was half paved and half gravel. highplainsflyer 20
December 4, 2017 Dutch Harbor to Cold Bay Sorry. No pictures of Dutch. I was too busy fighting headwinds. The next leg of my Aleutian hop was to Cold Bay. Cold Bay is a frequent stopover to and from the Chain. Sometimes the headwinds from Cold Bay to Dutch are so strong that planes run out of fuel before even getting close to Dutch, meaning they have to return to Cold Bay to refuel. People can get stuck there for days. The Dutch Harbor scenery is from Aerosoft -- I don't believe it has been updated yet. highplainsflyer 20
December 4, 2017 Cold Bay to Kodiak I guess the Alaskan Penninsula is not part of the Aleutian Chain, technically. However, the next flight followed this peninsula. Kodiak is probably the first real town we fly to in Alaska -- although Dutch Harbor also probably qualifies as a town. highplainsflyer 20
December 5, 2017 Kodiak to Homer This was a short hop to the Alaska mainland. Homer is a small community located along Kachemak Bay. The log and map are here: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114064 Kodiak was a freeware scenery which was a part of ORBX's NA airstrips. The Homer scenery was from ORBX. Please login to display this image. Please login to display this image.
highplainsflyer 20
December 5, 1017 Homer to Cordova Cordova is actually a fairly significant town. Alaska airlines provides regular service from Anchorage, Cordova, Yakutat to Juneau. For this reason, it merits a stop. This is part of ORBX's southeast Alaska package. This flight did not get tracked. Please login to display this image.
highplainsflyer 20
December 5, 2017 Cordova to Yakutat There really is not much in Yakutat. In fact, in my one commercial stop in Yakutat, the plane pretty much stayed on the runway to take on passengers. The scenery was by ORBX. highplainsflyer 20
December 6, 2017 Yakutat to Juneau The morning flight was from Yakutat to Juneau -- the Alaskan official capital. (The unofficial capital is Seattle.) The mountains were fairly high and I made significant deviations from the flight plan to avoid crashing into one of them. highplainsflyer 20
December 5, 2017 Juneau to Ketchikan The day continued with a flight from Juneau to Ketchikan. I actually deviated from the flight plan and flew down the Gastineau Channel. I had problems with the Ketchikan airport, I suspect because of AES in FTX Global Vector. In fact, I had a lot of problems with Global Vector for the rest of the adventure. Map and log: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114260 Both the Juneau and Ketchikan sceneries were from ORBX. Ketchikan is one of the rainiest cities in the United States. It is not surprising that I landed in rain. Please login to display this image. highplainsflyer 20
December 8 to December 11 Between December 8 and December 11, I did not take any screenshots. The flights flown were: Bella Coola to Bellingham, WA http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114481 Bella Coola is an ORBX scenery, while Bellingham was made by Riddlez. Bellingham, WA to Boeing Field (Seattle) http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114503 Drzewiecki Design had just released its Seattle City and airports, almost mandating a stop there. Boeing Field to Siletz Bay: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114532 Siletz Bay was another ORBX scenery. Siletz Bay to Coos Bay: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114631 Coos Bay was selected because I worked for a guy many years ago who like vacationing there and even talked about moving there. The scenery was part of ORBX Pacific Northwest scenery. Coos Bay to Rohnerville: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114666 Rohnerville was about midway between Coos Bay and San Francisco and was an ORBX scenery. Rohnerville to San Francisco: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114672 San Francisco was another major goal. The scenery was by Flightbeam. San Francisco to Lake Tahoe: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114698 The Lake Tahoe scenery was from Orbx. Lake Tahoe to Salt Lake City: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114714 Salt Lake City was a scenery from Island Sim Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls: http://www.fsxtracker.com/viewflight/114750 The Idaho Falls scenery was from Turbulent Designs. highplainsflyer 20
December 12, 2017 Idaho Falls to Pierre SD I I resumed making screenshots at Idaho Falls. Unfortunately, since doing this flight, several new sceneries have come out from FSX Scenery for Rapid City, Bismark N.D. and Grand Forks ND. Those sceneries would have provided a more norther route. Yes, I know FSX Sceneries are not the best products out there. But they are the only one for some of those locations. They basically are doing sceneries for areas being ignored by other developers, who are more intent on making the sixth version of Barcelona or Innsbruck.
