Hi All, On behalf of the hosts of the FSBreak podcast, I'm pleased to announce that we've finished our judging of the livery contest. It was extremely difficult because the entries were all outstanding. The grand prize winner will receive 3 downloads total, and his livery will be flown by me. I want to be clear that all the credit for this great contest belongs to Shaun! (The failure to update this thread, however, I was sadly able to do all by myself. ) I had asked Shaun if he knew a repainter who might help me with a custom livery for the lead plane of our World Tour coming it. We wanted to use the Carenado Mooney, which I knew was available for purchase directly from Aerosoft. When a friend of his wasn't able to do it, he suggested making a contest out of it -- with the incentive of a free download for each entrant and three for the winner! We at FSBreak were blown away by Shaun and Aerosoft's generosity, and the entries have blown us away too. We still have a tough choice ahead of us this Sunday. But we will advise the winner personally by Monday and then announce it Wednesday on the podcast AND in the forums. BTW, we will be discussing at least a few of our finalists on the show -- as well as a LOT of other cool stuff -- during next week's episode. Aerosoft was EXTREMELY generous in offering a free download to everyone who submitted an entry, with three free downloads for the winner. I have sent Shaun an email requesting that he make the single download available to all the entrants. That way, when the winner is selected, all that will have to be done is provide him with the two extra downloads. Given the number of entries and all his other responsibilities, this may take a couple of days, so please be patient. The delay was solely my own. With the contest deadline of November 1st, the first chance the hosts of FSBreak would have had to review the entries and select a winner was the episode that would have been recorded this past Sunday, November 8th. (We record Sunday evenings and then post the podcast to www.fsbreak.net, iTunes, etc. three days later.) For several reasons we were not able to record a new episode this past Sunday -- the first time since the podcast began last January -- so we posted a retrospective episode covering some of the developments over the past year instead. Therefore, we will make our selection when we record this coming Sunday, November 15th. We will email the winner directly, forward the winner's name to Shaun, and then it will be in the podcast released November 18th. We take the judging of this contest very seriously. Out of respect for all the effort of those who entered and given the importance to us of all the entries -- the winning entry in particular -- we wanted to have a collective discussion to carefully consider all the designs before making a final choice. Given a choice between doing it fast and doing it right, we are going to do it right. My error, as I readily acknowledge, was failing to keep the entrants up to date on the timetable. The winning entry will be the lead/host livery for the Around the World journey we want to begin in January. We will be flying 2-3 hour legs each week on Vatsim and hope to be joined by as many listeners and others who want to fly along. At a minimum this is a year-long undertaking. It could easily last significantly longer. My hope is to also make other entries available for those who fly along with us so they can pick the livery they like best. There are so many great submissions, and it would be nice for those who did not win to know that their work might still be flown by others in 2010 and beyond. Had I seen the posts made after the contest deadline before today, I would have responded immediately to explain the delay in the judging. Second, let me express my very humble apology to Aerosoft and Shaun as well for my delay. They have been extremely gratious in sponsoring this contest and supporting the FSBreak podcast generally. You couldn't be more correct Shaun! The entries so far are outstanding, and there are still 10 days left for people to submit designs. I want to thank the repainters for their hard work and Shaun and Aerosoft for supplying the "carrots" that helped motivate all of the artists. Can't wait to see what designs come in next! I would really like to see this contest get rolling. There are several projects in the works at the FSBreak forum, but more is better! Anyone who likes to be creative, please submit an entry, get a FREE download, and maybe win THREE FREE downloads! The keys requirements are 1) Carenado Mooney M20J livery, 2) Pilot name, 3) Registration number, 4) fsBreak logo, 5) fsBreak Grand Tour slogan and globe logo, and 6) Aerosoft's logo. Beyond that, go WILD! Let's see some creative ideas. I haven't asked Shaun about this -- and I'll cover it out of my own pocket, if necessary -- but in addition to 3 downloads for the winner and 1 download for each entrant, how about a bonus SECOND free download for the most creative/unusual/innovative design that is not chosen as the overall winner. When our formation of planes are flying over a city, try to design the livery that is going to cause everyone to stop, point, and say "Check that out!" Danton

Hi Shaun, Everyone at the fsBreak podcast (www.fsbreak.com) really appreciates Aerosoft and you sponsoring this livery design contest and offering the free downloads for participants! I've had some more time to think about the paint scheme since we first discussed it and would like to offer a few extra details for all the repainters out there. 1) There will be the lead plane flown by me, and on it I would like Danton "Dasher" Berube to appear as you noted under the pilot side's window in small, but readable lettering; and also for the registration number to be N66DB. For listeners who fly along, it would be nice if they could choose to use the same livery, but obviously without my name or registration number. 2) We would like the fsBreak logo which you attached to appear on both sides of the plane. Perhaps on the nose, but the exact positioning maybe is best left to the repainter. The logo we supplied is obviously huge to capture all the details. On the livery, it should of course be a more modest size, but it would be nice if the fsBreak.net portion is legible. 3) The key design element is the globe. I think the words fsBreak Grand Tour should appear above or below the globe and the phrase The Podcast Heard Around The World on a ribbon around the globe. This will become the iconic logo representing our "Around the World" journey. 4) We would like Aerosoft's logo -- what I consider to be the "Spirit of Flight" -- to appear in the top portion of both sides of the vertical stabilizer. 5) As far as the basic color scheme, I must confess that I am somewhat conservative and not terribly imaginative, so a classic white with deep red (maroon) and/or navy blue accents came to mind. However, I am not artistic, so repainters should feel free to consider this item as a mere suggestion. 6) These guidelines leave lots of room on the plane for repainters to exercise their creativity. I'm certain the winning design will be far better than anything I can even envision at this point. 7) Aerosoft and Shaun are generously offering a free download to everyone who submits any entry. Although there can be only one winner (of THREE downloads!), we would like to make all of the liveries available to listeners who will journey with us. So even if your design isn't on the lead plane, there is still a very good chance that it will circle the earth on one or more of our listeners' planes. A nice mix of liveries will look better than a dozen or more identical planes flying in formation. Also, this could easily be a multi-year project, so your design will live on for quite some time. If anyone wants to ask a question or perhaps submit a sketch before actually painting the livery itself, I would be happy to supply answers and offer feedback/suggestions. The FSBreak podcast is sponsoring a mission design/concept contest and would encourage all Aerosoft forum members to participate. You can find the details here: http://www.fszone.org/forums/topic/10862-mission-designmission-concept-contest/ NO actual programming is required, and your entry can be as simple as a couple of paragraphs describing you idea for a mission to as complicated as a multipage document with pictures, flowcharts, etc. The KEY, by far, is coming up with a mission concept that is interesting/fun/challenging and one that you would want to fly yourself. Depending up the quality of the submissions, a professional mission designer/programmer might actually code your idea into a proper FSX mission. And Aerosoft has kindly donated TWO free software downloads to the winner and ONE free software download to the runner up.
