  1. Hi,

Excellent news. There used to be a regular route flown from the Falkland Islands (Stanley SFAL) to Rothera by a Dash 7. I know there is a great freeware mesh of the Falklands on Avsim.

Althought I do feel the scenery would not be complete without the US and Norwegian research stations from the movie 'The Thing.' Think about the missions eh?

I'm saving for my Cowboy hat already.

    Andrew

  2. What are you saying? That i`m lying?

    :lol::lol:

Only kidding...'lower the nose' is in the manual Ken, and as you rightly say in the emergency procedures section. I'm only an armchair pilot so using the DeHavilland manual and flying in FSX is the only experience of such an event I'm ever going to get....fortunately.

Again, I appreciate your explanation Ken. Sounds like you are more than a flight sim buff, maybe a pilot in real life?

Anyway, hasn't this post gone off topic a tad?

  3. That's it....it's the end of the world!

I found a BIG oversight on the Twin Otter.

On the kneeboard reference page it says that maximum take-off weight is 15,500lbs or 5670kg.

It should be 12,500lbs (which is also 5670kg). I overloaded my plane and now she won't fly good even on TWO engines.

I'm thinking about demanding a full refund!:lol:

  4. Thanks for that Ken, nicely explained.

However...(and for Trond A's benefit)

I have a Twin Otter Manual (that's the extent of my real life experiences with her!) and it states that:

she'll fly good on one engine IF....

    1. If an engine fails above VMC (64 knots in a Landplane) and a decision is made to continue the take-off proceed by maintaining heading by application of rudder and lowering the wing against the live engine as necessary (to a maximum of 5 degrees). Lower nose.

    2. Advance power levers up to the T5, torque or NG limit, whichever is reached first.

It then posts the best climb speed on a single engine is 80 knots IAS with 10 degrees of flaps.

It's possible, but like you say not advisable.

Haven't tried it with Aerosoft's Twin Otter yet though.

  5. Does anybody know if the tempting helipad located on the cruise ship east of Monaco Helipad is landable or not?

I'm learning to fly helicopters and decided to take my Alouette II for a spin in strong winds, made a perfect approach and landing , only to find that the pad is made from quicksand. It's also lit up at night like a venus fly-trap waiting to strike.........

I'm running FSX service pack 2 and had no trouble landing at the Heliport or the Yacht in the harbour. Settings for scenery are as requested in the manual.

Help...I'm getting weight issues... :D

  6. Loving the Twin Otter....well done to all involved.

On the issue of Marker Beacon Indicator positions, (and don't delay any development on my behalf) but I was browsing my Twin Otter Manual and found this.....

To be honest I've seen so many cockpit configurations and avionics there seems to be no 'standard' cockpit defined in photographic or written form. Time has had an impact on most of these lovely planes.

No biggie for me as I'm hoping for a hardware solution for my cockpit :D

Still can't believe the optonal chemical toilet is not modelled........

  7. boris4356 - any luck in calibrating the map yet?

If not, pm me the details of the map (file size) and whether you are in a position to send the map as an attachment or something. I'll try to calibrate it for you.

  8. Thomas,

Many thanks for the reply, it's nice to see plans for the future updates. Also, I was joking about TAWS and weather radar but hey, don't let me stop you developing them

boris4356, what type of maps are you trying to calibrate? I've calibrated ICAO charts quite easily by using the VOR information from FSX and they have been highly accurate.

  9. 1. Aircraft Symbols

Could there be a symbol for a helicopter on the map display? Blame Peter Saltzgeber (and Aerosoft) http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/re/ibosh...gi?showd,,10421 for this fine chopper, it's all I'm flying at the moment.

The original GMX200 has one, but I failed to get an icon done that looked good. This will be added in one of the next updates. ;)

I'll help out if you need an icon. Just let me know the icon size and format and I'll give it a go.

    2. Test display page

Could there be an option for a test display page be the automatic startup screen (after the FSMap startup screen?)

    Any special reason for this?

No, just a whim. I like to test things after initial power up (like my weather radar for instance). Maybe assign a keyboard shortcut?

Thanks for the news about the future updates. Now I've read the specs of a GMX200 I want a Weather radar and TAWS integrated into FSMap as well! You only have yourself to blame

  10. OK, first off congratulations to Thomas (and Aerosoft) for a great program, I'm really enjoying this.

This is just a wishlist of things that would be nice to be changed from MY point of view. I'm not implying that it would be everyones choice but here goes....

    2. Test display page

Could there be an option for a test display page be the automatic startup screen (after the FSMap startup screen)?

    3. Gauge keyboard Assignment

Could the keys for the gauge have keyboard assignments? It would be great to push the keys using hardware switches through an interface (yes.... I'm a cockpit builder and building a bezel with switches).

    4. Initial TCAS warning

Could a sound be assigned for the initial TCAS warning. Currently it only flashes a warning. An audio warning would be an idea, something like "TCAS alert" for the initial warning, then "Traffic Traffic", then "Clear of conflict." I'm so busy trying to fly I sometimes miss the fact that an A380 is bearing down on my fragile chopper

Hope these make sense and don't take this post as a list of demands :D .

    Anyone else?

  11. I agree with Kiwikat, lovely screenshots, especially the rust along and under the waterline.

I usually fly the long nose wheeled version but after seeing those pictures I'll definitely be flying the floater!

Also, if anyone is interested I'm basing my home cockpit on a Twin Otter and am designing some card faceplates for SimKits (or similar) servo driven instruments (ASI and VSI) for anyone to download and print out. Let me know and I'll upload them somewhere when they are done.

Can't wait for this one. Be patient, be patient..... :D

  12. Excellent news! I really miss my LAGO Otter since I fly in FSX only now.

How about a cargo pod? Water bomber? Chemical toilet option?

Only joking...I'm happy with just a DHC 6 300 with wheels. I may even fly the amphibian! It would be nice to have the wingtip tanks included but it's not a dealbreaker.

If you need any additional info on the Twin Otter (which I'm sure you don't!) I have original sales brochures from 1965 and 1970 with lots of technical and performance data and customer options, avionics, interior and cockpit layouts. There is also excellent data on weights for different options (did you know that adding skis to the wheels adds 670lbs of weight?). Just let me know and I'll be glad to help.

Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? :D:D
