Aloha!

 

Pfff, one of the most tiresome parts of the Aleutian crossing has been done. From PASY Eareckson As to PADU Unalaska/Dutch Harbour I had to struggle with crosswinds, fog, snow and rain, problems with my navigation equipment and a bit tricky approach.

That's gonna buy me a little break from one day before I will continue the steps to Alaska and Canada to get my passengers to their destination Vancouver.

To avoid trouble with poor visual conditions I had to start early in the morning but 8.00 local it means still darkness :)

Hey Lem!

 

That's a great looking portable landing platform!!;)  However it does look pretty busy with all those armed aircraft!!:o     Maybe I'll keep one nearby as I traverse the Atlantic soon!:mellow:  You never know when you'll need a spot to stop!!

Yes, Rupert, could be worth a try to test it. I don't really know if it's only possible to land on a carrier as a mission or if you can do it on every carrier you see cruising around...next time if I'm spotting one I'll make a test :D

Funny you'd put it that way!  During the Vietnam war I made hundreds of RW landings on various carriers, LPHS, destroyers, etc. in both Marine CH-34s and CH-46s.  In fact once while in Subic Bay as a patient on the hospital ship Repose, I watched a C-130 land on The Enterprise and take off from it about a hour or so later.  I wasn't nearly close or high enough while aboard The Repose to see how they stopped that C-130.  But the takeoff was really impressive with all the JATO bottles firing off!! 

 

Since I was never a RW "jet jockey," I haven't really thought about flying off or on a carrier in a fixed wing while simming till now.  As to flying choppers, I've never found a sim of any chopper which I could successfully fly because I miss all the physical inputs and feedback of flying a RW chopper.  There may be some simulators out there to provide all that feedback.  But I'm positive they're way above any pay grade I've ever achieved!:rolleyes:

Aloha!

 

Pacific crossing nearly finished! Today is the last one on Aleution route flying from PADU Unalaska to PAYA Yakutat in Alaska...and ends up on the next continent. The next ocean to pass will be the Atlantic but before I will enjoy crossing USA. But first is to finish this leg.

I don't like this unpleasant weather anymore and hope for an improvement with the next days. Allways foggy and cloudy, rain and snow :( ....

Aloha!

 

We had a very extensive farewell evening together with our passengers in this Food.etc. bar...but again it was an early takeoff to arrive at the end in CYVR Vancouver, the destination of illustrous travel company. They were happy to get  home...and I was happy with the money they paid ;)

And again...snow and drizzle...so I decided to fly this part above the clouds for a bit relaxing part at the end.

And the last part of step 6...not really. I've splitted this one into two: Vancouver to KHAF Half Moon Bay and then KSFO San Francisco...only a hop away but a nice place to enjoy the last days and acclimate before entering big-city life.

It was a enjoyable trip all close to the westen shore line from Canada to California with a lot of fantastic panorama views...and a lot of pictures. Even the weather was on our side. But at the end I have to repeat the approach because I missed the first attempt :( .
