  1. Mathijs, have you thought about starting a new around the world event after your new Airbus Pro models come out? I really enjoyed the 80 days event and it would be nice to do something again. Or maybe just a weekly challenge with different approaches and time/weather settings etc. This would be a great way to celebrate and see the new models in several situations.

  2. Dear Aerosoft Team,

I am very interested in the Iceland & Keflavik scenery pack especially that it's on sale now, but I see that FSX Steam Edition is not listed as a compatible sim on it's shop page. Is it only because the install routes are different or does it need to be compiled differently? Could I install it to a temporary folder and manually insert it into Steam's folder structure? Or is it planned maybe to release a compatible installer alongside a P3D version in the near future?

    Thank you,

    Peter

I would like to request the Embraer E-Series (And maybe the Embraer E-Series E2) for FSX/P3D. I would like this to be Study-level (€50-80) and maybe a lite version (That isn't study-level priced between €30-40). This aircraft is what I want to fly in my commercial aviation career (I am 15 and will start flight training next year for my PPL) and it's a shame that there isn't one available for the FSX/P3D platform (That is decent - Wilko's one is S***e).

    Thanks

    TrainNutter

I would also welcome a new Embraer for FSX with today's standards because it's a very interesting aircraft in between Boeing's and Airbus' logic. However the Wilco/FeelThere E-Jets is a great addon that is still complex enough today to get into airline flying and FMC operation if you are willing to look over the outdated graphics. I don't know how detailed it is under the hood but when flying I feel it has been created with the same philosophy as Aerosoft's Airbus. It even has a similiar copilot function.

And a scenery request (or a question): does Iceland X work with FSX Steam? If not, do you plan to update it or release a new version for P3D?

  4. I don't mind if we have more time to read, but it is strange that so many people didn't use the official google logbook made by the moderators. There are much more topics than entries in the spreadsheet and to be honest I mostly read those who took the time to update their rows.

If the competition is only about choosing everyone's favourite this is not a problem, but if there is a nice prize for the winner (say, a big discount on any aircraft) then the moderators should check every topic if they comply with the rules that were given before the event. Then you could release the list of those who fall in this group with links to their diaries and from those we could chose the 3-3 best after reading.

The easiest solution would be to give a generic gift to everyone who finished and the moderators should decide who deserves more.

I'm sure though that some would say this wasn't emphasized before and it wouldn't be fair to decide this after the event. Maybe just give a free A330 to everyone who finished, I'm okay with that :)

  5. After 22105 nm and 55 hours, 40 minutes in the air I'm finally back home in London. It was a fun and exciting journey through which I had the chance to really get to know the Embraer E-175 and try out some other aircraft aswell. I was lucky with the weather because I never experienced extreme winds or storms, only a bit of raining and fog sometimes. I changed a few destinations compared to the initial plan to play with the distances or to visit more interesting places. My favourite landings were in Innsbruck, Hong Kong, Nakashibetsu, Nuuk and London. I will visit them in the future again. I flew 42 legs through 21 countries, all their flags can be seen next to the front door on the E-jet. The full summary can be found on this google sheet. I look forward for the next challenge, for that I really should start flying on Vatsim or IVAO. Congratulations to those who already finished and blue sky and nice landings for those who are still on the "road".

My longest flight in distance was Calcutta - Hanoi with 1043 nm. This was also the longest in time with 2:25.

My shortest flight was Gyor - Papa with 35 nm and 0:23, but that was using a GA aircraft. With the ERJ it was Nakashibetsu - Yuzhno with 270 nm and 0:45.

The average leg distance became 526 nm, the average leg time 1:19, the average cruise altitude 34000 feet.

As for the last leg, I thought it can't get any worse than Nuuk's short runway but the steep approach to London City was even scarier, but also fun and it went great (as the last landing should). This flight took 0:44 at FL300. The route was:

  6. My last destination before returning home to London was the Isle of Man, located between Ireland and England. I had a nice stable tailwind so I was faster on a longer route than the leg before. It took 1:39 at FL400 with the route:

  7. Take-off got really tight too, but a flaps 4 config gave me a Vr of 107 so in the end (literally) the aircraft leapt to the sky from the runway. The destination was Keflavik, Iceland, to where I already have my tickets for my holiday next may. Not much to see though with the default FSX scenery. The flight took 1:51 at FL400. Route:

  8. Well this was a close one, but the runway is paid for the full length as they say :) A video I recorded during the flight from Iqaluit to Nook, with the approach from 3:00:

I set the fuel to the usual amount: what the FMC computes for the given flight + 30 minutes of reserve. Everything went normal during the flight and just to be sure, I entered a hold close to Nuuk to burn some more fuel before landing. I exited the hold with 1-1 tons of fuel in each wings, with the cargo and passengers this resulted in around 30500 kgs of landing weight. The landing was a bit harsh without flaring (just like on carrier) and with the reverse thrusts and autobrakes set to high, I managed to stop just on the other threshold. Whew! Hope the take-off will go as easy as the landing went :)

The flight took 1:20 at FL400. Route:  CYFB DCT N6570 NCAE EPMAN DCT BGGH

  9. The next destination was Iqaluit Airport. It has civilian traffic and military presence too, and Airbus does cold weather testing to their aircraft here in the freezing cold. The flight took only 0:53 at FL380, with the route:

Next I'm going to attempt landing at Nuuk, Greenland, on a 950 m "long" runway... I will make a video :)

  10. From Quebec, I headed to Kuujjuaq. Getting this north again reminds me the crossing of the Bering Strait: cold, white and unpopulated areas everywhere. Flying through the US, I always saw at least 10 airports in a 50 nm range on the ND, but not here. It was one of the longer legs taking 1:41 at FL400, with the route:

  11. It was time to leave the USA for the second time - to enter Canada for the second time. 12. I managed to fly the next two legs and finish the USA part yesterday. Unfortunately the FSX real weather didn't work so I flew these with the "fair weather" theme. I arrived to Chicago in the sunset, and after refueling and eating I departed to New York in the night. The first flight was uneventful, but I forgot to add flaps 5 when arriving at LaGuardia and landed with flaps 2  instead (that's normally for takeoff). The autoland didn't arm because of this (I use autoland to low fps airports) and it touched down like an F-18 without flaring and rollout. Never happened before, will be more careful next time.

  13. I had to spend a few days in Vegas because I had to win back all the money I lose, and I also needed to study for some midterms at school. I am back where I was with the money and I passed all midterms (all as in I have only three exams and I finish BSc!) so although late, I can continue the trip today (I am one part behind on 12.12.).

The Las Vegas Strip is as extraordinary in daylight as in neon lights, but now I got a great view on all the major hotels and casinos during departure. The destination was Denver, the largest airport in the USA. I recommend reading the conspiracy theories about it, really fun and interesting ideas. I had headwinds so the flight took 1:33 at FL400. 15. From Portland I switched back to the ERJ and filed an IFR plan as I was expecting a lot of traffic in San Francisco. This was a good idea but unfortunately for the given winds FSX chose the runway to land with mountains on the approach and the controller wanted me to fly into it. I did not comply of course but being unfamiliar with the area, I realised this too late and was still too fast on final. I should have gone around but decided to land anyway which got a bit hard so I am not happy about it - nothing happened to the airplane and us at least. I will do some flights later from and to KSFO though without traffic because it is an interesting area and a huge airport. The flight took 1:25 at FL340. Route:

This concludes part 6, for me with the most legs during the trip. Summary:

  16. For the second flight with the Piper Aztec, the weather was better so I could enjoy the view. I also tried the autopilot now. I have to practice the landing and approach a bit steeper because it's really difficult to see out of the cockpit on short final. Also, the camera views are a bit complicated and it would be nice to hide the yoke to reach the buttons under it. These are the only cons I don't like so far, but I recommend it and if you use the manual, you won't have any problems like many in the steam reviews did.

  17. At CYVR, I found some hangar named Steam shop with some discount stickers on it so I checked it out and found a real nice Piper Aztec for a bargain. Although the cloud base was really low (and got even lower while getting closer to my destination), I really wanted to take it for a spin so I put Everett KPAE in the GPS, ran through the checklists and took off. It flies really nice and stable, the instruments are clear and sharp and there was no problem with the speed needle way in the yellow interval (oops). The GPS and the autopilot gives the possibilty to fly longer legs safer but this flight was a pure joy with continuous altitude changing and turns just to familiarize myself with the aircraft. I'm a bit sad because I will only use it for the next leg in this event because all the followings are way over 200 nm and I will still use the ERJ for those flights. I may take it for a Eurotrip after this though!

  18. After refueling I immediately returned to the sky because the next leg to Vancouver, Canada was a longer one with over 2 hours of flight time (I went abroad irl and wanted to finish this leg before it). The weather got a bit clearer (and the colours warmer) and I arrived just before sunset with a really short final. The flight was at FL400 with the route:

  19. Departure from Anchorage was just as foggy as the arrival, and the clouds reached quite high too. At least there was something to watch on the quick flight to Yakutat. It was only 50 minutes at FL300 with the following route:

  20. I'm not quite attracted to this airplane but it always amazes me, it certainly has a presence. I love the whining noise just before the engine starts (a starter motor perhaps?), and I had the chance to go on a spraying flight once and it was just amazing to fly so low, so slow. And it was a cabrio as the front upper glass panel was missing haha :) A lot of them are still active in Hungary, they are reliable workhorses. I've just read a documentary book from 1982 about agricultural flying in Hungary where someone said "oh they will be used here until 2000 for sure" - and here we are in 2017 still using them. I'd be happy if at least one Hungarian registration would make it in the original version. How will you manage the startup where in the video they hold one button and press 2 others immediately?

  21. From Unalakleet I hopped to Anchorage on a spectacular flight. Beautiful colors of the sky, scary clouds close to the mountains and the view of the Moon on final. The flight was 0:51 at FL300, route:

  22. I left Asia on 28th of November, my first North American destination was Unalakleet. The original plan was Nome but the stock airport was boring and I couldn't find  a nice freeware. I took off in a heavy crosswind from Anadyr and headed straigth to and above the Bering sea. The flight took 1:38 at FL400 with not much too see up until I reached the small village in Alaska with a population of around 700 and a 45 m wide runway - strange combination. The route was direct with FSX IFR because PAUN wasn't in the ERJ's FMS database (it was actually as I arrived close enough to see it on the ND but as PANK).

  23. The third and last Russian destination took me so far east you could say it's almost already west! Takeoff was in the same conditions as landing the day before, but once above the clouds, I got a great view of the snowy steppes. Interestingly, the route consisted of just a few waypoints, and because of that (I think, and maybe my northly position too) the lines on the navigation display showed curvy. Never seen that before. Landing was easier this time but it got dark when I arrived to Anadyr. The flight took 2:00 at FL400. Route:

Now comes the big US and A!

  24. My second Russian destination was Magadan. I took off in a beautiful sunrise joined by the Moon. Cruise was uneventful other than a strange bug in FSX which never occured before: the screen went all black but the menus showed and the sound also marked that it was running somehow in the background. Fortunately I could save and load back immediately above the Okhotsk Sea. Approaching Magadan, it was very cloudy between the hills but I wanted to try to land visually because I could see the airport from above. As soon as I started to turn for line up and descent, the fog got much thicker and I had to go around. The wind was calm so I tried the ILS approach from the opposite direction but there was another traffic that I had to wait for with a circle. After that, I captured the localizer, performed an autoland and parked next to some Antonovs. The flight took 2:18 at FL400. Route:
