  1. Whereabouts are you in Alaska Dan? I was stationed in Fairbanks for 4 years at Eielson AFB and lived in North Pole. Nice to see another Alaskan around here!

i live in anchorage, born and raised here. i've spent all my life watching aircraft at merrill and panc do their thing....i cant fly due to health issues, so aerosoft really helps me work my flying jones out.

  2. OH MAN! This is a good one! I've only been fiddling around with this bird for about an hour....and perused a brief number of the posts. I see definitely lower framerates with the plane, but by no means unflyable, and there is considerable fidelity with this aircraft. Had the failures set to often, and flew a grand total of about 45 minutes. I flew out of PAMR in Anchorage AK and put her through some trials in the nearby mountains, the peaks here average around 5000ft. She performed well, landing was a breeze....I put her down at Bold Airstrip on Eklutna Lake. Then I turned her around for takeoff, and was at rotation speed and just about to nose up when I lost the engine, though from the sound of it, I believe I nosed forward just enough to put the prop into the tarmac and I lost it all...hurtled over an embankment and went right into the drink! I LOVE this airplane! This is even a finer aircraft than the Do-27 by my merit, and will likely get equal airtime as the Twin Otter in my Logbook.

    THANKS GUYS!!! A+ stuff!

there's several other videos on youtube for this airstrip.

note the scenery, including when he flies over MacKay bar upriver. the trees in the area are fairly tall, obscuring vision.

some people choose to snake up the valley before final, and those that maintain low altitude and just ride above the river will usually wind up making a sharper turn than this guy did, making the already low line-of-sight angle even more challenging. some people in certain aircraft have to approach very low on this strip, such as in a maule or piper. i believe this guy was in a CE180 and he seemed to be prop happy.

in fsx there are no trees in the area, and the mountain scenery is OK, but imagine what could be done with this place. a mile away at the confluence of the river there's MacKay, and i believe 4 or 5 strips within a 10 mile radius. what we got a brief glimpse of in the river in Lukla could be put to use (improved perhaps) as a showcase. I think it's a tempting challenge. Additionally adding trees into the mix would intensify the approach to the area...Perhaps this scenery could be release concurrently with the Aviat Husky I pray every night for you guys to build?

At the least. a fun youtube video to watch.

  4. i've only used approach hold so far...and it's definitely shooting me low...i've tried several different airports and they all shoot me wayyy low, like 300 feet....hand flying has me also shooting low...I don't know if i'm flying my approach wrong, but i mainly just follow ATC vectoring. i don't usually use the approach plates...i'll run one of those this afternoon and see where it has me.

  5. I find the glidescope to be incredibly sensitive in the 1.10 update, to the point which I consider it near impossible to hold a glidescope approach, even with approach hold engaged. does anyone else feel the same? When approaching, the VASI looks fine, white over red, however I don't even SEE the glidescop indicator, usually until I am over the runway threshold. is it just me? is the glidescope more sensitive than my wife every 28th day? or is it setup for very low-angle, low altitude approaches?

  6. I have no idea if this is the place to request such a thing....but I'll say this. I've purchased the Lukla Scenery, as well as your Do-27 and Twin Otter for FSX. In addition to the quality of your aircraft, what you (and your colleagues) also provide here in the forum is beyond what I've seen many software companies do. TOP NOTCH work, gentlemen!! You fellows seem to have interest in STOL type Aircraft...as well as some "true" classics (you're working on a Catalina, eh?)

Have you read at all or (watched youtube vids) of the Quest Air "Kodiak"? It may sound like a convoluted term, but WOW, 650HP of STOL! :D

Under what circumstances would the process begin, once Aerosoft has seen a particular aircraft, to begin software engineering of said airplane? I am very VERY interested to see how this aircraft is recieved, and I believe, according to questaircraft.com that Alaskan carriers have already ordered a few Kodiaks, which would likely be based out of Merrill Field which is 2 miles from my home.

    I WANT THIS!

by the way, I read a biography of your company In PC PILOT, and apparently your company is comprised of only a handful of people, if my memory serves me correctly. So, I understand that your priorities, while not comparable to your ambitions, are limited and focused.

    What thoughts, friend?

  7. I saw no instructions on how to install the unofficial 1.01 update, however being with flightsim for over 15 years, i assumed it would be the old drag and drop of files...so i did this overwriting .cfgs and whatnot, no errors...I also noticed a definite improvement of pitch with flaps...but what I did not get was a HSI when capturing a ILS approach...what gives?

  8. you know I have only two complaints about the twin otter, one is that there is no glidescope (yet approach hold works) for the Nav1 directional indicator, and yes...NO PANEL LIGHTING at dusk and dawn, that one really irritates me. not the end of the world now, but really, something perhaps that should be addressed very soon, by the fine folks at a-soft. awesome airplane, but i noticed this immediately myself, when flying an IFR night flight, that the backlighting doesnt engage until almost pitch darkness...very unacceptable. but really, it's a miniscule issue compared to the amazingality of this aircraft.

  9. If my memory serves me well (and it does about 75% of the time) I saw previous posts related to a "config utility patch" in regards to the Do-27 download package. I used the search tool on the website here and could not find it. My problem is that when using the config tool within flight sim x I see no directional animation in respect to whether "pro, or simple" flight mode is selected and "started up" or "cold and dry" engine systems.

this is very annoying as I prefer full realism and I start the Do-27 fully started and ready for takeoff! any help folks?

    DANKE
