Telegraph Creek & Moose Bar loading problems

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased Freight Dogs: the scenery and love the attention to detail that was put into the product. My problem is that two of the airports (Telegraph Creek and Moose Bar) will not load and by that I mean that FS9 will crash to the desktop.

I have only the default mesh installed and I have installed the 9.1 update. This problem will happen when I choose one of the two airports either from the included flights or if I create a flight from the menu. During loading the status bar normally fills up between 55 and 58 percent and the status message says that it is, "Loading Terrain".

I know that you need more information than what I have given so let me know what else you may need to diagnose the problem.

thanks,

Bill

I too have this problem. It only happens in the fall during the daytime. It has something to do with a texture's and I have never been able to fix it.

If you use an addon texture replacement (like BEV or GE PRO) it could be a missing texture in the main world texture folder.

My soloution was to only fly there when it is not the fall and I would love to find a real fix.

Well, you pointed me in the right direction and I have to report that I have had some success!

I have a file monitor that logs which files an application (like FS 2004) is trying to access. I ran this while FS was loading and after it crashed I looked at the name of the last file it was trying to load. I had to do this multiple time because there were quite a few files it needed to load.

I'm not sure why these files weren't loading because they were all in the scenery/world/texture folder. What I did to fix the problem was to copy these files to the SceneryCacheFS_Disc4_WorldTexture folder. After I did that, I was able to load and run both Telegraph Creek (a white knuckle landing field !!) and the Moose bar adventures.

I'm not sure if my problem was the same as yours because I wasn't able to load these two airports in any season. But just in case, these are the files that I had to copy to the scenery cache:

Thanks again for getting me started down the right path. Now, I'm off to Telegraph Creek to deliver some much needed supplies.

Here's an update:

The flight adventure that is supplied with Freight Dogs is placed in the summer season, so those texture files that I told you about will only work in the summer. On my setup, if you want to be able to fly to or from the airports in any season then you will need to copy the following additional files to the scenery cache directory.

000312221021032Fa.bmp

000312221021032Sp.bmp

000312221021032Wi.bmp

I know that's a pain in the neck but I think that the scenery is worth it. Have fun!!

Sure,

The following steps assume that you are using Windows XP. I'm not sure how different this would be for other versions of windows.

First of all, make sure that you can see hidden folders in your FILE (not internet!) Explorer. On your menu bar click tools, folder options, and then click on the "view" tab on the pop up Folder Options dialog box. Look in the section about half way down labled Advanced Settings. You should see a section labled Hidden files and folders. Make sure that the radio button for "show hidden files and folders" is selected then click OK.

Now you should be able to navigate to this folder location:

c:documents and settings<your>application datamicrosoftfs9scenerycachefs_disc4_worldtexture

That should take care of you. Let me know how it works.

Hmmm....not sure what happened with that directory location. I guess the forum engine handles brackets oddly. The part that says, <your> should be [your logon name]. For example, if you logon as bill then substitute bill for the brackets as in c:documents and settingsbillapplication data....and so on.

I'm having the same issue with my new Freight Dogs too, great scenery!

I wish Aerosoft would make a Patch up-date to fix this, after all it is a problem in the software.

I guess I will have to try this stuff your talking about which won't be easy for me but I'll try anyway to see if I can fix mine.

Does any have both Freight Dogs & FSCARGO running at the same time?

Hey Pilotman,

Yes I do have both FSCargo and Freight Dogs (the scenery) running at the same time. I have no idea why the scenery couldn't find the files in the default location. Even though it was a pain to find the correct files and copy them to a different location it solved the problem, at least on my setup. It is unfortunate that I had to figure this out myself because I got ZERO help from the vendors. Pay good money and get no customer support. Even though the scenery looks good, it might be a loooong time before I spend my money on another of their products. :?

That sounds a bit strange.. FSAddon is one of the best supporting firms in the industry.... but you will HAVE to tell us you are experiencing a problem in order to get a response... we are lots of things, but we are not cleavoyants

FYI.. only a FEW customers seem to have this issue, so we don't assume it is a software problem, but rather a problem with certain PC's (or their setup).

Our dedicated SUPPORT FORUMS are on simFlight... direct link is here:

Hi François,

Thanks for the reply. According to the documentation that came with my product (Frieght dogs, the scenery), it states that to receive customer support a person should leave their question at http://forum.aerosoft-shop.com and makes no mention of the website that you posted.

I understand that no one is "cleavoyant" but I was just following the instructions that were provided to me. I hope that you can understand my frustration at leaving a question on the Customer Support forum and receiving no support at all from the company. I do apologize for the previous comment but it was based on incorrect procedures that were placed in the product.

All of that is water under the bridge, though because I do have the wonderful scenery up and running on my installation. :D

Thanks

Bill
