Brilliant VC . couple of Questions about it please.

Featured Replies

Just bought this Lightning and I wish to congratulate the creators. It is awesome sitting in the VC with trackir on and looking at my projector screen.

I have been reading the manual(s) and things are slowly dawning on me-lol. I want to be able to more or less manage before my mate sits in the VC.

I should explain that he is an ex lightning pilot. As a retired RAF officer, his eyes seem to mist over a bit whenever i talk to him about his beloved Lightning.

Can you tell me? Will he be able to start from cold - IOW- do all the necessary buttons and switches in the VC really work to achieve that and realistic flying.

It seems so from my initial readings of the manuals, and if so, then i look forward to being taught by him- that is, if he'll let me prise him from the seat so i can sit in it.! :) He is so going to enjoy this !

If I understood a couple of previous answers, the cockpit tooltips will explain the "white wheel" which should stop the trim being too sensitive, which seems the case at the moment with my Cougar hotas?

and secondly, I can't seem to work the airbrake switch . tried all sorts of clicks with the mouse but nothing happens?

Again, a wonderful job has been done here and I congratulate you. :excellenttext_s:

[...... his eyes seem to mist over a bit whenever i talk to him about his beloved Lightning. ]

AH yes , there is a term we coined for that ..... "WIWOL"

[ Will he be able to start from cold - IOW- do all the necessary buttons and switches in the VC really work to achieve that and realistic flying. ]

Yes , yes, and yes........ everything is there and working as he would remember it .

[.... the "white wheel" which should stop the trim being too sensitive,....]

No the white knob on the autopilot is to adjust the rate of climb or descent when in autopilot+height hold .

The trim buttons are on the joystick ( but I would recommend dedicating switches or buttons on your controller). If you are finding the Lightning very sensitive to fly it is

possible you are over-controlling , it might be an idea to check the sensitivity and null zones of your stick in the "settings >> controls" panel .

[...... I can't seem to work the airbrake switch ....]

You need to dedicate a button or switch on your controller . you don't want to be looking down into the cockpit when you are thundering over the boundary fence at 200 mph!

The airbrake switch being on the throttle it's a moving target , and because it would be more likely the mouse would register on the throttle , I don't think I even attach a mouse area to the switch.

If you have a lightning pilot as an instructor I guess you'll be an "ACE" in no time B)

Cheers
