Autoflight

Featured Replies

Hi - I can't engage the autopilot in any mode. I've switched on the AP power, the STAB is on, the AP is selected on the joystick, but the autopilot does not react in any form. I've tried to engage AP using the Z key, but still no sucess. Climb mode, HDG or Height switching has no effect. The popup hints dont show if the mode is on or off (I assume to engage a mode the switch is in the forward position). Have I missed something?

Beautiful aircraft thanks - I'm using P3D v2.

Thanks for your assistance!!

Sounds like you do not have avionics power - are you sure you did switch on the gyro? The Master Gyro switch is on the left front panel, just left of the trim indicator. FYI the basics to operate the FCS autopilot:

1. Check: FCS Engage Switch (on control stick) "OFF"
2. Check: FCS Controller Master switch ON and Supplies Indicator = black
3. Check: All FCS Controller Mode keys OFF
4. Trim aircraft
5. Set FCS Engage Switch to "AP"
6. Press required Mode key (HEIGHT for alt hold and/or HDNG for heading hold)
7. Adjust altitude with "little stick" vertical speed control (vsc) knob (tooltip shows fpm value)
8. Adjust heading with HSI HDG knob

Ah, you got there before me Henk .

You can use Shift + 2 and " all on " if you think you might have forgotten something :0)

Thank you - not tried it yet, but that would look like the problem solved!

Tried it - The AP is still not responding in any form. Tried the Shift-2 trick and still no AP response. STAB on or off makes no difference. I get the AUTO showing in the fisheye, but the aircraft doesn't want to fly in autoflight.

Just to make sure switching is correct here's a graphic with autopilot set .

Use shift+2 so all is ensured on , (1) should be on and (2) select the fd/ap on the stick to ap (down )

(3) select heading , the aircraft should rock gently as it enters ap mode and (4) the FD bead will centralise and follow any movement from inputs from the heading knob.

if you are flying the aircraft should alter course to that selected.

If you pull on the stick AP will automatically disconnect but the FD bead will remain engaged.

To enter AP mode again the keys need to be de-selected , AP switched off and back on again and keys re-selected.

PS. climb mode is redundant, it was really there only for the ground controllers to input the best vector to an enemy from T/O.

Ok thanks for the explanation in full - looks like I have the joystick sensitivity too high. I must be knocking the AP off when I hat view over to the AP mode switches. It's very sluggish to respond, probably realistically so!

Thanks for all your help, good support thanks.

Able to tune VORS but a couple of questions...

Is NDB enabled?

Also able to put the bird in auto HDG, but problems with fixing the altitude. I trim the bird an I press the FCS switches, but still going up and down.

Wonder in the "ministick" Henk describes is the Bank Angle Knob (White) in the right side of the cockpit. Even with that, no way. Is like riding a horse. I know I miss something, but what?

Thank you

The white knob is the vertical speed hold selector ministick. Use the tooltips to see the selected feet/minute, you turn it up/down with the mouse wheel.

I do not have tooltips when y lay the arrow in the white knob (neither in any place). That already confused me in your 1st response to ggi... Maybe I'am in DX10 mode..

Which would be the situation (or missed key) where the HDG-AUTO runs properly but the VS Hold does not?

Thank you again, Henk

You can enable the cockpit tooltips: Go to FSX Settings -> Display Settings - Customize -> Aircraft Tab -> flag "Show cockpit ToolTips"

For alt hold, press mode key "HEIGHT"

For heading hold press "HDNG"

 Gracias, Henk

Danke Schön

No NDB, I guess... (if yes, where do you tune it?)

If you press hdg it automatically selects the height switch , if it does not take deselect height and then reselect , or select height first and then heading .This should put you into altitude hold

then use the ministick rotating knob to adjust the vertical speed .

No NDB(ADF) , the system used the ILS as the director so I omitted it as being to complicated , it was little used anyway as being inaccurate.
