Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
My recommendation is hyperthreading off. What is your operating system? With W7 (64 bit) I would not use an AffinityMask entry at all.
Deputy Sheriffs mopperle 4161 Posted November 26, 2013 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted November 26, 2013 It is nearly impossible to give a general recommendation: - every system is different - depends on installed addons - depends on your preferences There are only 3 recommendations: - do not apply any tweak as long as you didn't fully understand what this tweak is doing - do not tweak your FSX to death - there is only 1 mandatory tweak: put the line HIGHMEMFIX=1 under [GRAPHICS] in your fsx.cfg I strongly recommend you to read the following sites, as they give you some deep insight on all possible settings. If you are not willing to read those sites carefully, do not tweak your FSX http://kostasfsworld.wordpress.com/fsx-software-and-hardware-guide/ http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/ http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html but be very carefull with tghis tool !!! Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
Your task manager will show you the number of cores: Hyperthreading on doubles the number (no. of physical cores PLUS the same no. of "shadow" cores). You can change the HT setting on bootup when you enter the BIOS.
barman87 0
Thanks for your reply but over HIGHMEMFIX = 1 under [GRAPHICS], other significant changes?
Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
I was thinking about BUFFERPOOL=0 ... but then I read this: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/58267-not-satisfied-with-your-frames-read-these-tips/?p=409920 You may try those things but I'd rather recommend to set up different graphics profiles in FSX: Using profiles gives you more flexibility as you can change them forth and back while flying. Tweaks to the fsx.cfg require you to apply them again in case you have to build a "fresh" cfg. And for changes in the cfg to take effect you have to shut down and restart FSX. I, personally, use the BUFFERPOOL tweak, too. But I refrain from the AffinityMask entry. Your findings/taste/milage may differ. As Otto mentioned already, the fsx.cfg is probably the wrong stuff to concentrate on. Findings are highly variable and system-dependant. And sometimes people fool themselves into the impression that a tweak may work, while actually it doesn't ("placebo").
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted November 27, 2013 Aerosoft Share Posted November 27, 2013 My recommendation is hyperthreading off. What is your operating system? With W7 (64 bit) I would not use an AffinityMask entry at all. I have never seen a system that showed persistent better FPS with that trick. And it is not because I did not test myself. Barman, the highmen fix is obligatory these days, For me 90% of the rest is snakeoil when you have FSX SP2. You have no idea how many support we solve by telling people to delete the FSX.cfg (FSX will make a new one when it starts).
KAPTEJNLN 237
quite true highmen fix is nearly the only thing that help, whit out having side effects. AffinityMask depending on setting. For me it also gave some better and smoother proformance, but ended in a FSX crash. So not recomended by me either, how ever i found a page to find the best number for AffinityMask for a given pc.. more info at my web page whit links: http://www.kaptejnln.dk/257163791
Private Pilot 0
Hello, This is my first time in this forum, so if I do something wrong, sorry in advance. Recently I got a new Laptop and installed the FSX with acceleration, but the frame rate is at 10 to 18 fps when all graphics are set to max. The spec of my laptop is as follows: CPU: i4800MQ GPU: GTX 765M ( 2GB ) + Intel HD4600 Ram: 16GB Hard disk: 256SSD Is this the normal frame rate I should be getting, or should it perform better with the above spec. I tried the Venetubo Tweaks, External Frame Rate Limiter, and also the Nvidia Inspector, but it doesn' t seem to be helping much. I would really appreciate for any suggestions. Thank you! Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted March 31, 2014 Aerosoft Share Posted March 31, 2014 For starters I would go back to a standard FSX.cfg (just delete it and FSX will build a new one). Then add the well known Highmem tweak. I doubt you would ever get anything better on your system when you have all sliders maxed out. Why would you set it it 7 cm textures when you most likely have no 7 cm textures on your system? In the end FPS is FAR more important than seeing 77.000 trees from 30.000 feet.
