Wishlist: New X-Plane 10+ functions

Featured Replies

  1. Third party addons like A2A, PMDG, Aerosoft (in three words, more realistic aircrafts)
  2. More accurate VORs situation and range
  3. Users of FS2004 have (I have) tons of nice airports (almost all from Aerosoft) for that simulator... it would be nice make that aiports working in X-Plane (not just a conversion with FS2XPLANE)
  4. Winter textures
  5. Improved GPS

Hello Heinz, is this thread still beeing monitored?

Just to be sure before I try to put my wishes into english.

;)

Doesn't make sense if it doesn't reach the developer's team.

Frankly I find it pretty strange that there's no such wishlist on the laminar research site

Hello Alpenwolf,

yes, we know this thread and we take a look at it.
And our productmanagers are in contact with Laminar Research .....

But a guarantee of a (quick) implementation we can not give :)

Greets Heinz

Ok then I'll try

1. full integration of TrackIR - the module I currently use works poorly e.g. if you switch to outside view and then back to cockpit you have to reenable TrackIR. I'm mostly VFR pilot and fly allways with TtackIR,  Sometimes when the sun shines into my room TrackIR doesn't work. Then I rather don't fly than to go without it.

2. I wish I had a possibility to move some subpanel out of the X-Plane window and onto my second monitor. In FS9 (I never used FSX). I used to implement a subpanel with the complete radiostack (taken out of the default C172) into all my VFR machines panel.cfg, opened it and pulled it to the second monitor. So I could fly using TrackIR and without having to pause it switch frequenzies on the external panel (it's allmost impossible for me to flip switches with TrackIR active - the head moves a little and the switch slips away from the mouse. probably you don't understand is you haven't tried). In X-Plane so far I can't figure out how to create such subpanel and I find no way to have any panel outside the main X-Plane window. I almost allways fly online with IVAO and sometimes you have to react quickly to  ATC and it would make things much easier. Especially with helicopters when the radiostack is in between the seats. There's no way to do it without pausing the sim

3. The general usability needs improvement.

Just 2 examples: 1. I can't find how to put the parking brake to my joystick because there's nothing like 'parking brake toggle on/off' the same with the autopilot. I have dozens of autopilot commands I can assign - just there's no 'Autopilot on/off' there. Probably it is somewhere but me stupid user can't find it. I read a dozen times through all the hundrets of things I could assign to my stick but I never will. half of them I don't even know what that is and I have the PPL. Maybe it would be a good idea to have some 'basic configuration' for users like me. I only have the most basic commands on my joystick: steering, trim, gear, throttle, prop, mix and a few more (I use X52). I very rarely use 'Orbital maneuver rockets' on my pa34. But I do want to switch my autopilot off without having to use the keyboard during approach. If you guys would make things a little easier for us that'd be a good way to make X-Plane more attractive. (besides: most config items are still only in english. I don't have much of a problem with it but many folks out there have)

4. and maybe most of all I would like to save a situation and start the next session with it. Yesterday I parked my B412 on the roof of some ÖAMTC station in Austria and today I would like to take off from that same roof. However I can't because X-Plane puts me to some military base 20 kilometers away because X-Plane doesn't accept the station as an airfield. Would it be so difficult to get my aircraft back exactly where and in the state I left it last time? In the moment I have two alternatives. I start without the 'quick start screen' and X-plane puts me wherever it wants, then load a saved situation with a good possibility that X-Plane crashes (X-Plane doesn't like it at all to switch from one complex aircraft to another and load another terrain at the same time it's something like an 1:1 possibility for crashing - maybe some Win 10 issue) or I can start X-Plane into the start screen where I can not even choose a parking position on a certain field (it's somehow strange to be placed at a heavy gate with a C152). Why isn't there a possibility to load one of my last saved situations? It should be really simple to put some 'load saved situation' button onto the start screen.

5. Implement something which was called 'Slew mode' in FS9. Some possibility to simply move the aircraft around with the mouse or something e.g. if X-Plane puts me wrong I need a way to simply push my Cessna over to the GAT before I go online to contact ATC. Again - maybe there is a way but I can't find it (see the above).

Oh forgot one

6. The panels in general are hard to work on. The rotary knobs are a mess because on every plane they work different. Should I hold the mousse button and move it vertically, horicontally? Shall I click or use the scrollwheel? Every theoretically possible method is there. Couldn't that be standardized somehow? The flips 'active zone' (where it can be flipped) very often is to small. As explained above we're trying to simulate a somehow realistic environment on IVAO and as if flying certain procedures wasn't challenging enough it's too hard to just manage the panel. e,g, simply tuning in a new NAV frequency and turn OBS to some radial sometimes makes me completely loose my nerves. The same with putting new commands into the AP. You can get crazy with it. (just for explanation: I have reallife PPL/IFR and more than 5000 online hours on IVAO, it's not that I wouldn't know what to do - it simply doesn't work like I expect it to)

No that's not a TrackIR issue, when flying IFR I usually turn it of.

kind regards

Markus

Fully agree with the wishlist of Alpenwolf. It's a good start for really improvements for the so called "user interface" specially with item 6.

Regards John - EHAM

Ok after writing the above  I once again looked for it and found the AP main switch - it's called "Servos toggle". Is that some sort of a weird "we are the pros" kind of humour to not just name it "Autopilot on/off toggle"?

Some more like a philosophical last sentence: When I go flying I don't want to think about the simulator, I just want to fly. Things like managing the panel in FS9 never was something I had to think about - it just worked. Don't get me wrong -  I  would never ever think of switching back. But in some details X-Plane developers could learn from that.

X-Plane 10 is by far the better simulator in any sense and I love it - except the usability. Every time I have to think about X-Plane instead of my airplane that is annoying. X-plane is a very good way to distract myself from reality but everytime I have to fiddle around to make that &%$/(§-transponder show the bloody digits I want that distraction is gone. I don't want that to happen. Maybe it'd be a good way to have more experienced virtual pilots for beta testing than reallife captains.

Most if not all of my wishes are rather directed at Aerosoft or other third-party developers:

  1. A product line similar to FSX VFR Germany - satellite-based scenery with correctly placed autogen (OSM based or similar)
  2. A product line similar to Ultimate Terrain to have correct positioning of roads, railroads, coastlines, towns, forests,... in large regions of the world without the need to install hundreds of gigabytes of AImesh
  3. A product line similar to German Airports and Mega Airports - in XPlane we see many, many minor airfields and airports, but the bigger, more important airports in most countries are missing
  4. The bread-and-butter airliners A320/B737NG  need to be available on a study-sim level (comparable to PMDG or AS A320) in order to offer a similar simming qualitiy like FSX/P3D does; this includes providing additional in-simulation or external performance calculations (Vspeeds, take-off and landing distances, fuel planner and so on)
  5. A product similar to MyTraffic, Ultimate Traffic,... to have a wide range of AI models and liveries to display online traffic
  6. A new software like squawkbox oder vpilot to connect to VATSIM/IVAO in conjunction with the aforementioned AI traffic add-on to display online traffic correctly and realistically
  7. to LR: Make changes in weather (like approaching frontal systems) visible on the flight, i.e. I take of in CAVOK, destination is covered by a warm frontal system, and as I approach my destination I can already see the frontal system from a distance while still flying in CAVOK weather.

Overlay editor could use more functions. Objects ability to raise or lower, the ability to have more vertice points.

Now only make squares or rectangles, the ability to make curved or circular would be nice. Ability to make flattens also, and please look into the map.

Would be nice to be able to remove/undock from platform and set on 2nd monitor as a moving map.

hi plus one on that. i'd like to add:

a. Orbx-style complete ready-to-go payware scenery packages. simple packs for country/continent, with a scenery manager app. Currently all the permutations are confusing, 3d mesh, auto-gen, photo,  w2xp, simheaven, zonephoto, default dfs etc  big time sinks, and frustratingly you still end up with unrealistic things like straight line cut outs, weird colour changes between tiles etc. un-intended duplicate layers hogging GPU memory. The 'orbx' supplier could draw from the wealth of current excellent-but-disparate airport/scenery designers and pay them a cut.

b. of course quality, complete, accurate near-perfect payware aircraft as given to us by A2A

c.  a decent working off-line ATC (with real world standard phraseology!) at least for basic VFR training, eg. circuit patterns, so we can practice, get sharp, before we connect up.

However, respect goes to Laminar Research for an excellent product :-)
