LecLightning56 3
I am running Airbus X Extended 1.15 with Hotfix 18c applied, with FSX in Windows 7 64-bit using multiple displays. When I undock a window for, e.g. spot view, and drag it to another monitor (with the VC displayed in the main monitor), I do not get any flightcrew sounds when running through the checklists. The checklist procedures are nevertheless followed. This does not happen when I use a single monitor. The above issue does not occur in Prepar3D with multiple monitors. I am using DX10 preview in FSX. Has anyone else had sound issues in FSX with flightcrew speech with the latest updates, and if so have you resolved such issues? Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
In external views the Airbus sounds are not played. Any chance you tested with only the external view window being the active one? What happens when you click into the VC view window to make it the active one: Sounds can be heard again? LecLightning56 3
I have just installed the DVD version of Airbus X Extended ( a version earlier than 1.15), and the same problem occurs in FSX with the use of an additional monitor for display of an undocked window (nothing to do with the primary monitor not having been selected and hence sound not available from the cockpit). It would appear that, as far as my installation of FSX is concerned, the flightcrew sound is lost as soon as an additional window is undocked and dragged to another monitor. To reiterate this does not occur in Prepar3D and all I can say is that the days of FSX are numbered with the continued development of Prepar3D, particularly with Version 2.0 promised soon. I suspect we are just fire-fighting with FSX with all its bugs and workarounds to get the thing working.
Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
The Airbus ships with its own sound modules (just like the PMDG aircraft, for example). PMDG has an option to enable sounds in external views; the Airbus stuff is up to the Aerosoft developers ...
LecLightning56 3
Thanks for your response. The point that I have been making is that I appreciate that cockpit sounds are disabled when external views are selected, but when I have the virtual cockpit selected on the primary monitor (with the external view still visible on another monitor), I lose the aircrew speech when reading the checklist, although all other sounds associated with the cockpit are audible from with the virtual cockpit environment. Update on the above. I started FSX with the default aircraft (the microlight!), created an external view on another monitor, then selected the Airbus A321 and, lo and behold, aircrew speech could be heard when running through the checklist. Hence this seems to be associated with the order in which everything is loaded in FSX if using an external view. In other words, it would appear to be necessary to start with the default aircraft before loading the Airbus at the departure point. I shall experiment further this afternoon since it would appear that certain addon software such as FSX Xtreme Booster and Opus (for weather) may conspire to spoil my fun, but to reiterate I appreciate that I am not expecting cockpit sounds from aircrew to voice themselves in the external view; it is from within the virtual cockpit environment that I have been experiencing problems. LecLightning56 3
I have finally found the culprit. It would appear that use of Opus with multiple displays interferes with the flightcrew speech in the virtual cockpit window when using the checklists. If anyone has got experience using Opus with Airbus X Extended in FSX and multiple monitors (for e.g. virtual cockpit and external view) then I would be very pleased to hear from you, particularly if you claim to be using the checklists successfully with flightcrew speech.
