Flight Level in Metric Format

Recommended Posts

Hi,

is it possible to get the flight level in metric format in the ATC FPL, i.e. when entering the Chinese Airspace I've got FL351 instead of S1070. I've read the manual and have found nothing about it even when I'm selecting metric altitude in my aircraft option.

Thanks

This should happen automatically, as the ATC flight plan is not linked to your personal unit Settings.

Do you have a sample ATC flight plan or the FIR/UIR where this happens?

Here is a copy of a real flight operated today by CPA bound for Hongkong. PFPX should create a ATC FPL like this:

N0478F310 ANDIK UN873 JUIST UP729 DOSUR P729 TALSA P730 CDA/N0472F330 M611 MALIV P862 LIMAK/K0868F330 R822 GONBI R30 SU B210 GIMUN G358 MEDUG/K0864F350 G358 MANEB A300 TINRI P983 NIGOR/K0859S1130 B330 MORIT/K0871S1160 B330 YBL/K0880S1130 B330 OMBON/K0872S1190 B330 POU R473 SIERA/1105

The Entry point into China Airspce is NIGOR

Hi Christian,

I often operate in the Chinese airspace, but only now I've picked up that the FL in the detailed OFP is still in feet. I am currently running v1.08.

Here's an example of the ATC route:

ATC ROUTE: K0844S0980 TGO13D TGO G212 CDY W41 VYK A461 WXI DCT DAPRO A461

Here's an example of the detailed route:

Is that normal?

Where? I'm referring to the long one where all the waypoints are shown (not the ATC ROUTE). If you look at the second example I posted, all I can see is FL322, FL331 etc. And that doesn't look metric to me. So that's why I query whether real world flight plans that pilots get in China also show imperial levels even though they operate under metric RVSM?

It is normal for the body of the flightplan to show the altitude in feet. In your example the altitude in feet should be FL321 not 322 for FL 9800 m. Looks like PFPX is converting directly and rounding up versus using the China FLAS table. The aircraft is be flown using feet in Chinese RVSM airspace.

Haha, silly me! I had a look at the ERC from CAIP, indeed the point is not only one-direction, but also slightly eastbound. However, the one going to ATAGA (still saying FL331) does in fact go westbound (191deg). Maybe it's too short of a distance to worry about?
