Avio 1
Understand that the engine damage modelling is included, but have not actually experience it in sim. How is the damage really modelled? Is carb icing modelled too? And when the engine does get damaged (or degraded), how does one reset it to brand new condition again? About carb icing, in the real Dimona, when shutting engine at high altitude, wouldn't that cause any icing to form? Kindly advise. Thanks.
J.Schweigler 203
In this case you made everything correct so far. Normally the engine protects itself. If you pull the prop controll cirquit breaker before take off for example, the engine will overspeed and give up after a while. However you can use overspeeding for a little extra power when needed on short runways. The real Dimona does not suffer from carb icing because the carburetors are behind the rear cylinders in a pretty warm environment. Not the best place to get a good performance but protected against icing. This is one of the reasons why the Dimona does not need a carb heater. Snave 466
For very detailed advice about carb icing, search in the Diamond Katana forum where there is a lengthy thread about Rotax carbs, Not the same as the Limbach engine but pertinent background information nonetheless. Carb ice does not form because the engine is shut down.
J.Schweigler 203
I think, he meant engine in idle.
