Gonçalo's Phase 4 Scores

gmoreira

Recommended Posts

Here goes the start of Phase 4. Apart from some crosswinds and turbulence on the depature and some CBs along the way, it awas a cool flight with a very smooth and easy instrument approach. Carried out a full ILS into runway 09. Neat practice for real life!

Good flights everyone!

Managed to log another leg. Mostly uneventful except for a little moment of exaggeration when capturing the ILS on arrival.

Off to Laos next!

For some reason, i'm not the best friend of the attitude indicator of the DC3...

It was nice to fly over terrain again, a lot of water on the last few flights.

A beautiful approach in the middle of the mountains!

Just can't understand the thing with the glideslope on a visual approach. I held a steady 500fpm from 1500AGL to the threshold... At the speed I was flying that should have been about 3º... Isn't that how it's supposed to be?

Thanks Ole, however they're nowhere near the standard of my phase 2... And of course, here goes an appaling one for the change!

My friends beware upon arrival to India, there must be something with those runways!

It was a bang on VORDME approach in visibility just above the minima, and still I got the off runway error... Can't understand what happened here.

Well, anyway, next up is LUKLA!

The good news is I managed not to crash at Lukla! I gues the several hundreds of landings here have paid off on this crucial moment.

The bad news is that FSFS is nowhere near being prepared for the demands of this airfield and its unique and nerve wrecking approach! The landing score... yes, as expect it's very low!

Neverthelesss, a fun flight, mostly VFR, trying to identify the peaks, and diverting through clouds to maintain clear of terrain.

Pictures being posted along with the flight route.

And the veredict:

I just outdid myself on this one! Had a terrible landing, ilegally flying under the minimums in order to avert a diversion. Very strong crosswinds, and Whittle spent the hole approach shouting stupidities out of his mouth.

Guess what? He gave me a score I thought was impossible to obtain on FSFS!

The flight to Colombo was essentially uneventfull, but poor visibility had me doing an ILS approach. On the rudimentary instrumentation and their terrible placement on the cockpit, this is a gruesome job on the DC3! Finally, a gust of crosswind just before landing had me closer to the grass than I'd feel confortable to...

          [*]No stalls.

[*]No flying dangerously close to stall speed.

          [*]Smooth comfortable descent rate.

          [*]Pitch not too high.

          [*]Pitch not too low.

          [*]Approach speed not too fast.

[*]Low altitude speeds not too fast.

          [*]Good clearance of obstacles.

          Flight included the following problems:

[*]Steep banking - save your aerobatic flying for some other time.

[*]Loss of altitude during takeoff - climb smoothly.

[*]Flaps not down on time - plan your landing next time.

          Definite room for improvement...

And this concludes a fantasic Phase 4. For a grand finale, a beatiful approach to Male with some rain showers around, but what a beatiful sight!

And to top that up, a flight without negative remarks by old Smithers! YAY!

Will be waiting anxiously for Phase 5!
