EGLC-ELLX

A pretty straight-forward flight as the DC3 is a docile bird. The only thing that runed the flight (other than Mr Smith yapping on about the ILS which I wasn't using) was the kid the back who had an "accident". I told him not to dink so much Coke.

A pity I can't get him to clean it up. I suppose that I'll forget it over a few litres of lager.

Ready to depart.

Climbing out to the East.

Old Father Thames and the Queen Elizabeth Bridge linking Kent and Essex

The White Cliffs of Dover

Feeling cocky because I had had an "easy" flight to Luxembourg, I decided to press on to Lelystad to make up for lost time (a 4 day weekend: what an opportunity!).

It was getting late and I would have to arrive in darkness, but I thought, no problems, the weather looks good (well it did after the first 2 minutes of fog anyway), it won't hurt to do a bit of night flying.

Big mistake .

Not only did I just manage to get away from a large electrical storm but then I couldn't find Lelystad in the darkness. Or more accurately, I found Lelystad ok, but the runway was a bit more of a problem as someone had forgotten to turn the runway lights on. I bumbled around for a bit until I foumd it and got down whilst i could.

"Bitchin' Betty (Mr Smith) wasn't too happy as I hadn't bothered with glideslopes and localisers, but then my DC3 isn't equipped for ILS anyway, so what did he expect?

Any landing that you can walk away from is a good one, right?

Are you sure we aren't still in England?

Thats better

A lovely clear evening.

Into the twilight

Brussels abeam

Just missed the lightning

No chance of getting lost in Holland. Their motorway signs are huge!

Passing Schiphol

It's a bit dark out here

Lelystad at last

But where's the runway?

Good thing that I'm good at guessing

Beer and Bed!!!

Well in that case, here are some shots of my disasterous flight to Berlin:

I'm sitting in the back for this flight (so I can't be blamed for the rubbish flight!)

Germany is very Green

Are we nearly there yet?

Must be a very small Pilot

Looks a bit cloudy up ahead

We seem to be landing

Hello to Berlin

Lined up on approach

Then it all went "pear shaped"

(no pictures please)

Flight 6 EDDT-ENGM

MD11 Time again

and we're off

its a long way down

everything is going to plan

4 Green

All lined up

Flare

On the ground in Oslo

I don't think that Mr Smith appreciates my auto (Otto) pilots skills, he thought that it was a rubbish landing. sad.gif

He has VERY high standards (like lining up with runways that are hundreds of miles away or landing at below stall speed.) excl.gif

Flight 7 ENGM-EKVG

Another lovely day for flying

it's a bit clearer up here

hope i don't need to make an emergency landing: the runways are a bit steep.

out to sea

thank goodness for GPS

post-11334-0-72468700-1304628793_thumb.j

it all went horribly wrong after that: double engine failure, stall, spilled Gin and Tonics and ended up with a bit of a problem lining up with the runway (G and Ts will do that to you) and my pictures stopped too; luckily!

Flight 8 EKVG-BIEG

Lets hope that the weather doesn't get any worse

Farewell Faeroes

Time for drinkies (for the SLF)

I spy with my little eye something beginning with LAND

I hope that isn't a great big rock in front of me

Found the runway despite the clouds

I don't think that there will be much nightlife around here!

Doesn't the sun ever shine here?

I Guess it does

That looks nice and flat to land on in an emergency.

Hope I can find the island

Looks like I'm in luck

At least it's stayed clear.

Busy place...considering that it is the middle of no-where

Yet more ice

High ground and low vis....eekk

Found the runway, just in time (although Mr Whittle didn't think so, should have left him on a Glacier)

No screenies for my flight to BITE (FRAPS not playing)

but both that flight and this (BITE-BIRF) were similar, cloudy with a rubbish landing at the end

My Winair Islander

I rotated a little vigorously (mainly because i couldn't see if there was any high terrain ahead)

I wonder what's under that

We'll soon find out by descending into the clag

Total whiteout!!

Phew, at least it doesn't go all the way to the surface

it's going to be a low approach

weaving thru the clouds

runway in sight

another metropolis...not

BIRF-BGBW

Angry Skies ahead

That sure looks desolate

If I have to land here, I'll freeze before any one finds me

I had no idea that the ice climbed so high,

at least it's stepping down now towards the sea.

but not by much

lost the ASI

oh oh its the old "Rocks hidden in the sky" scenario

sudden rapid climb required

The runway, thank goodness

just noticed that my ASI had started working again, wish that I had noticed BEFORE I landed and got a telling off for not having the throttle closed!

Ready to go to North America, lets hope that I can take off before the runway stops

Look like I made it

That's a lot of water to get over

Canada at last, at least I hope so and that I haven't gone back to Greenland by mistake

maybe its the end of snow.

yep now its just trees

Last photo, after which i realised that the ILS was going to put me in the forest and I got a bit busy.

Nice pics but too large - I have to keep scrolling to see them and it spoils the effect...

Hmm I'll see what I can do. I hadn't really thought about it as they are the right size to fit my 3 screens.
