Support overload. We are currently seeing 65% more demand for support then we normally see. We can only assume this is because more people are at home due to the corona crises. Our complete support staff is online and they are working flat out, but it will take some days before we can scale up resources. Please be patient.

Well after all this discussion I have to put in my two cents.

I don't know how or when to use SID / STARS, or even what it is. I don't know how to read charts.

But I like to fly a little bit after work to relax. Just a 2-3 hours flight. And the default Airplanes are too easy

So the Aerosoft Airbus is the right thing for me.

Regards

Klaus

Klaus,

I understand, have the same time to spare.

So no need to know more, but I found out that FSX is much more fun to play(even a few hours) if you understand a little bit more of it.

At this site : http://www.fs-tutori...47_400_PMDG.php you can find a very very easy tutorial.

It explains every single step and together with a picture (in this case a PMDG 747) starting and flying an airplane.

If you take half an hour to read through the tutorial you understand what is happening in the FMC (including sid and stars  )

Besides I think a little bit of knowedge makes the A320 much more fun.

I know, it's my opinion so no need to use it, but just fun to know.

Regards

Eric

@aerosoft team and members.

i hate bringing it up,

but will it be possible to mod the aircraft after release.

the fs community is blessed with innovators and great mod-ers..

would it be possible to add a Sid/star support by a member of the FS community?

or is this simply not possible

[in particular mention of the leveld and someone released a upgraded cockpit which prooved popualr]

all the best

I do.

Well we said the aircraft is rather 'open' (yet very much copyrighted!). So yes it IS possible to modify it to include SIDs and STARs. But we are talking about adding something to over 150,000 lines of code that took many many months to make. Changing a color is 'easy' as long as you do not ask me. Adding a whole feature means being rather smart and that I like to talk to you.

I just don't understand what the majority of people's issue is with the lack of Sid/Star support.

Personally, I think it is much more interesting and involving entering it all manually.. not to mention, it also improves your 'general' piloting skills.

The only thing I can think of is that these people are 'lazy' and don't want to spend long on the ground / in the air programming stuff - in the real world - that is exactly how it is.

Obviously time constraints do make it a pain and the possible 'update' or 'user fix' that could be done to solve the issue a large majority seem to have would be well received.

For me though, it is hardly a 'turn off'; I'd actually prefer more manual interaction as you really do get your monies worth for the aircraft.. rather than just some screens and a good flight model.

And while I can add, if you really want to simulate a pilots' experience, you would have all the charts at your hand - so entering the fixes manually is hardly tedious work.. it takes about 30 seconds more work!

Hello Mathijs,

I am considering to buy your Airbus X, as there is the special "Gamescom"

sales discount....

As the Airbus is just a pre order product, I would like to know if this

is the boxed or the download edition, because I would prefer the boxed...

Kind regards,

Sebastian

No, obviously I only know about actual operations of commercial jets in a high-traffic approach environment at places like Frankfurt, Munich or London Heathrow, as witnessed from looking over their shoulders on multiple familiarization flights. And from witnessing which kind of instructions from me work well for them and their systems and which ones cause workload, confusion, ruffling of (paper-)charts etc.

What they do in their training might be different (as we work differently during ATC training in the simulator compared to what we do with "live" traffic).

As I stated, I work at Munich Approach.

If you wish to make further assumptions about my knowledge feel free to PM me, I am always interested in the views of pilots and ATC alike.

Regards,

Robert

I think we have have to end this. So end from my side. Last word fro me. I prefer to listen to what ATC says, despite teh fact that ATC not always listens back :unsure::rolleyes:

Right. We have included things like windmilling engines, traffic cones etc because the pilot sees those things when he does his walk around. Thanks for your comments btw.

Nice one. Already promised my son this airbus, and promised myself to give online flying a go in this one. (if I can get him off the computer that is....) The screens I saw look amazing.

If you ever fly into Munich, you're welcome to contact me and I can try to arrange for a visit at Munich Approach. You might find it interesting. :)

Same applies to Stedders of course.

The pre-order is for the boxed version. But keep in mind that we do not yet have a release date for that one. Very late September, early October is the best estimate we can give now.

I really would love to, but appearing at work every day with one or two (or more!) visitors would probably annoy some people here, especially the poor soul who has to coordinate them all with security. :)

Of course, bribing me with a free Aerosoft product might help in individual cases. ;)

.Huh?

Kind,...Educated?...hmm a weird hobby i do believe, but the other part?...hmm not sure...just Kidding Mathijs!!! [before this post gets deleted as well....:P]

Annyway just wanted to say, that even though not every Hard-core flying stuff is working in the Bus, i'm still buying it..

Though because i'm also fond of flying "hard-core" i will be awaiting for the Fslabs airbus....

And before that this topic will continueing being a "Battle of the Pilots" i do have to agree a bit with the 737 F/O..

Annyway..awaiting this "bus" to arrive to check it out myselfe..

With best regards and happy landings...

Same here - this thing just looks too good, and since I'm a sucker for good design.... :)

Nice one mate. I am flying there tomorrow, but I won't have time. (Actually, I am the pnf inbound, so I'll be flying out) I'll get back to you on that offer though.

Think I was there (ATC) once back in 2003 or so. Workshop of Eurocontrol about levelbusting. Met a Lufthansa captain by the name of Schad or Schat.

He, if I recall correctly, was there to tell us about RNAV approaches and database integrity. Funny with this topic in mind, if you come to think of it.

Ok off for now

Simon

I take your word for that, but due to short turnaround time it may be difficult. Perhaps with overnight, but that happens really on occasions and MUC is not top destination. We rather focus on delivering Germans to and from islands as quickly as possible

This is the exact reason why I don't fly online, would love too but, it all seems to complicated, I can only use an FMC to fly online? Serious question here as I was hoping to join and use this Airbus for that reason :(

I'd encourage you to take it online. There are several options available to you:

1) Fly the SID/STAR with reference to the basic instruments. Not as hard as some will ask you to believe, and quite fun.

2) Program the waypoints of the procedure manually into the flight management computer.

Both of the above assume that you have charts available to you, but that is expected of you anyway when flying online.

3) Write in your flightplan that you are unable to follow SID/STARS and will need vectors. If the controller gives you a SID or STAR anyway, just ask politely to be vectored.

I have flown online many times in aircraft that don't even have an FMS or a fancy GPS capable of loading procedures. Not a problem.

Picking the plane to pieces even before it is released over this SID/STAR stuff is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Tom

Perhaps it's an idea, after this Airbus has been released, that some (real-world) pilots create a tutorial on the real use of SIDs and STARs and vectoring? In different situations: How to interpret a real STAR, what to do when ATC gives vector instructions; using radio navigation or the FMC - maybe based on real life experiences or online flying?

That way everyone's happy: don't want to fly these, then don't. If you do want to try but don't have real-life experience, it will be a perfect opportunity to learn this type of flying.

I think there are many sim-pilots like me: able to understand the approach and landing charts, but I have to pause the sim regularly and interpret what is expected of me next. Using MS ATC is a bit better but I can't imagine it's very realistic (approach at an angle of 30° of the runway heading, often 10,000 feet above what is needed to make a 3° glideslope to the runway ;) ).

If I could be taught how to interpret these charts more fluidly and 'on the go' I'd be a happy simmer indeed!

Plenty of stuff on Vatsim on how to fly Sids and STARs, and how to read the charts. Probably IVAO also.

1 week to go before September, I wouldn't hold my breath for an August release.

It's better to get it right, than to get it out early I guess. But then again I've never seen any big payware release that didn't need a patch or 2 later on.

Looks like some quality time with Mafia 2 this week :P
