Hello All,

I am very proud to have been appointed Events Manager for Andras Field.

I am hoping for both a varied and exciting series of events at the Field! There will be everything from Glider tournaments to fly-ins to Seaplane adventures. I am even planning a circular race around Southern Germany for those who are feeling competitive!

The current plan is for these events to operate online, with VATSIM, IVAO and where possible, a dedicated server accessible from the standard FSX multiplayer, so everyone can take part!

First on the schedule (date to be announced) is a fly-in - "Welcome To Andras Field Event" - whereby we can all meet each other at the field and socialise and show off our shiny aircraft!

Any ideas, suggestions or other comments on forthcoming events are more than welcome. Please feel free to post here and tell me the sort of events that you would enjoy.

My job is to represent you all, to work with the board to bring you the events that you want!

Jane, I have a question about "showing off our shiny aircraft". Unless others online have the same aircraft, they would not be able to see what I am flying, would they?

Hi Pete,

If you have the aircraft that others fly installed on your system then you will see it properly. If you haven't got the aircraft yourself, certainly on VATSIM, a substitute is used from a library of aircraft. I am not sure how that works on IVAO or the default MS servers. Maybe one of the experts here can chip in?

Hi Jane,

I'm not sure we should get bogged down waiting for IVAO/Vatsim etc to allow a fictitious airport on their servers. Why don't we just set up the first fly in on either an FS host server or use FSX's in built system?? At least that way we could get a good number of pilots online to get the feel of a fly in. FSHost allthough not the smoothest of systems does allow you to substitute aircraft at the client side so even if you don't have the exact aircraft being flown by another player you can select the best fit from your own library.

@chaders

can't agree more

Fully agreed guys, I am working towards us getting a dedicated FSX server that any of us can use for events and hopefully having it running 24/7 so all pilots can meet up whenever they want.

Hi Jane,

That's good to hear. I'm thinking the place will really start to come alive with a few people on a server. I'm a fan of the less formal approach at Andras and I'm sure if we just self announce our positions on TS or via the inbuilt FSX voice if it's a true FSX server and we'll have a whale of a time.

I look forward to seeing you all on there.

Thanks Richard, I completely agree. Just as soon as I have news on server details I will post them for everyone to use.

Hey Ruud,

The plan is that all you will need is vanilla FSX with no fancy software at all. Just go to the standard multiplayer lobby within FSX, click on the server and away you go, you are in the world with everyone!

Dear janeRachel,

I take it "vanilla" means "from the box" and i can't find any indication of a multiplayer lobby in FSX mad.gif

Could you help me out please?

Hi Ruud,

On my copy of FSX "multiplayer" is a menu option on the menu list on the left of the screen. For instance, if I am in the "create a flight" menu, then I see multiplayer marked as an option on the far left. First time that you click that you need to set up a "gamespy" account. It send you to a website whereby you enter a username and password. Once that is done just click the multiplayer menu option, enter your username and password and you are in. There will then be a list of named servers to connect to. Once we have ours I will be able to give you the name. Just click on our server name and you are in the world, up and running.

Just to confirm, on my UK copy of FSX (which I hope is the same for everyone). On the left side of the screen, I have Home, Free Flight, Multiplayer, Pilot Records, Learning Center and Settings as the menu options. Just select the multiplayer option you see there.

all the best

Why not use the big VATSIM or IVAO Community for flying online?

With VATSIM for example we have "real" ATC at the Airports around Andras Field.

With VATSIM i can fly for example from EDDW (Bremen) to Andras Field with ATC.

If we use an own server, than the world around Andras Field is without traffic...

I think its better, to integrate Andras Field in the VATSIM (or IVAO) airspace.

Many Greetings

Hi Chaders,

I just noticed your message here and realized I have put the same idea in the "Andras Aviation Club" post... so firstly I'm sorry for duplicating  and I totaly agree a dedicated server and TS3 host will do magic B)

Hi,

All I'm saying is it will take a change in policy from either of those networks before a Fictitious airport is allowed to be used. Also unless we have controller rated members here who would be happy controlling we'll all be left using Unicom and self announcing which would leave us no better off than having an AF server to ourselves. The majority of users on VATSIM and IVAO fly IFR in the big iron and will just pass un-noticed over our heads. If VATSIM do change their policy I'd be happy to fly at Andras on the network but until then lets just have somewhere to meet up and fly together.

Hello Chaders,

I am flying al long time with VATSIM in a little VFR-flying club (friesenflieger.eu). That works very best. The controller in VATSIM are happy about every VFR Pilot.

But you are right when you say, VATSIM must accept a fictive Airport.

I hope, that Mathijs Kok (Aerosoft) can regulate this with VATSIM.

And i hope that we comply with an own server to the rules of the air traffic. Otherwise it makes no fun to flying online.

Best regards

Please do NOT use VATSIM. The built-in server access with FSX would do just fine. VATSIM has too many requirements.

The whole idea of online flying is to enjoy ourselves, WITHOUT the added stress of rules/regulations that accompany VATSIM.

Hello,

but i think, flightsimulation is boring without the real Air Traffic Regulations (These are independent of VATSIM or IVAO...). Anyone can do then what he want. Where will it all end?. I also believe that it will be boring if we always take ourselves to Andras Field. The real Flight World is so much more...

Using the phrase "keep it simple" (my mantra) I can say that for now we are working on a default FSX online capability. This will make room for Andras Field users to meet online, and for the board to start making more controlled online meetings here.

More advanced online possibilities are also being discussed and worked on, but right now we are much concerned about getting "in the air"

Hope you can all appreciate that! ;)

I agree with short and simple. For me andras is not a major airport, but an uncontrolled airfield with a large runway. It doesn't mean eople don't follow the traffic rules, but we communicate using Unicom frequency and announcing position and intentions.

That being said, simple FSX server is more than enough for me as it liberates it from the dull vatsim rules (which are more strict than real life).

VOTE SIMPLE!

Hi all, is there a page that helps us novice MP flyers out a bit?

I have been simming since 1985, but the whole MP thing is something that I have only tried a couple of times...
