Aerosoft Airbus X - Preview

Recommended Posts

I am in a category of customer that you may not have identified yet for this product. I like accurate, complex airliners (Level D 767, DA Fokker 70/100, PMDG J41 are my favourites), however I never really get into the very obscure systems or failures (I have little time to do that). I just like to start up the aircraft, input the flight plan (generated by FSX, no fancy flight planning software), fly from A to B using normal procedures, enjoy the scenery on the way, and then land using normal procedures (sometimes ILS, sometimes manually, depending on the weather). I don't care about setting the cargo hold temperature or doing emergency procedures. I put a premium on realistic, immersive looks of the aircraft and cockpit, good FPS, and accuracy of the few systems that I use.

So, even though I only buy complex airliners, I think that your Airbus X (with the systems concessions that you have made) will still be perfect for me. I think I only ever use 30% of the systems that have been programmed in the other products I've referred to above (but I pay a high price for the unused 70%).

Wow, I could have sworn that I typed this myself...! We aren't twins, are we? :P

Hello!

I am very interested on this project and going to buy as soon as the boxed released! thank you Aerosoft!

I have two questions an this beauty:

1. Why it showd ALT and LOC on the upper PFD when you were climing?cockpit2_a321.jpg

and For this one approaching one:

cockpit3_a321.jpg

Nothing's on the upper PFD?

2: As i read there will be simplified VNAV, Does this basically means the bus can climb to the flight level and then descent by herself? Or even more simplified.

Thank you for your replay!!!!!!

I guess I only have one question, apologies if it has already been asked. Will the map display show radius turn curves?

Frank, as to your first question, it has been answered a few times before, but I suppose it's not reasonable to lambast someone for not having read 34 pages of a thread. The answer is a few pages back, however, so that probably explains why some people have voted your post down.

But I'm happy to answer it again, in case it alarms anyone. The answer is that the FMA's you see in the pics are not the "real" ones, the ones being worked on. What you see in the screen-shots are simple place-holder annunciations, there just so that there's *something* up there and it doesn't look so barren... (well, most of the time). It just turns out that the FMA's are much easier to work on and test in their own separate popup panel, and that is indeed what is being done. So no need to worry. They're being done, and will be done well. We do in fact know the differences between the autopilot modes. ;-)

I cannot answer your 2nd question. I'm sorry, but another developer or the project lead will have to answer that one.

I'm afraid not, at least not for the initial release. Actually I'd prefer not to even give the impression that they're definitely in for an addon, either. Just depends on a lot. The curved flight-path lines... they are much harder and time-consuming to do than most might imagine. (I see a few others have done them. Frankly, it looks like it has taken them years to do it. Literally, years.) In theory I can see how it's done -- just a combination of arcs and lines and some not-so-overwhelming trigonometry, plus some clever masking -- but in practice it looks good only if done *perfectly*. The intersections of arc and line literally cannot even be a pixel off even for half a second, or it looks just plain ugly. A constant reminder of their discontinuity and composed nature. So... who knows. But that single feature would definitely eat up a lot of time, time that could be spent on many other details that are probably much more relevant to most simmers. We'd all like it, of course, but it's just one more cost-benefit kind of feature.

Yes, i fly on VATSIM (Didn't know people still flew IVAO?) I know that's what a majority of real life pilots do and i honestly dont have much of a problem with it. However like others mention, i don't want to spend a long time on the ground and having to manually enter the SIDS and STARS happens to slow down the process, but only a little. And don't worry, im treated too well at Aerosoft to complain! Mathjis and others don't complain to us, we can return the favor ;)

Cheers!

Yes people do fly on IVAO.. Alot alot of people and in my opinion, it's better than VATSIM but back to the subject.

I must disagree with you on that it takes a long time to set up an aircraft by putting in SIDS and STARS. How do you think shorthaul pilots on the real aircraft (I know they are trained but same principal) do that in a short turnaround time of 30-40 mins each time.

For example I was flying on FSX, PMDG 747-400X and from Hong-Kong to Heathrow and I got up at 7:10 (UK Time) and set up the aircraft from a cold and dark setup, boarding 400 pax. , setting up all the systems and inputting the FPL (Including SIDS and STARS) in the space of 50 mins which for a 747 is normal time. Probably even shorter on an A320. I do appreciate other people take longer than others.

going back on the IVAO point,

there is never more people online at vatsim compared to IVAO,

IVAO is what Aerosoft support as well, and in my opinion like tristan above, it is so much more professional and better training and software...

this debate is a debate of realism, in real life, Airbus pilots do not input indidual waypoints of the sid, it is time consuming and un realistic.

I hear rumours [may have been an official announcment] that Aerosoft will make an advanced version after the basic is released.. now THAT, i will look forward to greatly! :)

Good question, I haven't tried and won't have a chance to try before monday, maybe a fellow tester can try in the mean time...

As far as I can see the landing lights light up the clouds a little bit, not as much as we would want by the whole lights and effects system is totally messed up in FS2004 and FSX. We're proud of what we done, but it is limited.

Hi Mathijis,

About SID and STAR does the ND's like this ?

http://emarciano.free.fr/Fr/index.htm

Have a look at "April 2010: Upgrade for Airbus Series Volume 1 & 2"

Well you might have missed that we do not load SIDs and STARs in this version of the project. You do set a benchmark though as this is officially the 100's time I write it. Not a bad word about Eric, but one of the reasons we do not want to go his route is that is is CPU intenside.

Well a lot of aircraft doing short haul do not have these databases and they do it. It's like pilots can't fly a procedure anymore these days.

I'll let you into a secret. Rather often on short haul flights done over and over again the pilots don't even bother. They know ATC will clear them short or long and in case they do get the complete procedure they just pretend to be real pilots and fly them. Another secret, I've been on a jump seat flight on a MD8something from Malpensa to Amsterdam. Not a cloud enroute and though the pilot declared it as IFR they flown the whole trip, from runway to runway, only using VFR clues. Close to Brussels they tuned a VOR (not a lot of databases and GPS in those pits) to check something but they flown in visually the whole time. The pilot told me flown this route over 150 times.

We do support IVAO as well, they just have to ask (as they have done) and we'll be glad to sort something out for them.

And we are considering an extended version, but we got no idea what will be in that or how we'll do it right now. It's not something we are working on in any way.

Mathijs,

I would pay alot for an advanced edition in excess of £60-£70+... And also have you already released a version of this bus to airlines? What does that involve systems wise? (I think I read it somewhere)

VATSIM has much more pilots and controllers then crappy IVAO.

I dont know from where did you get you info but its totaly off .

indeed aerlingus.....perhaps we should resume discussing the airbus rather that which server is the best.

and Mathijs....completely agree. One should NEVER under any circumstance rely to heavily on automation. Then it becomes that the plane is flying you. There is another phrase for pilot....'Commander'. That is, be in command of the aircraft.

and it really shows no skill whatsoever if you cannot either manually enter the route either using PBD's from known navaids or by lat/long or manually flown using autopilot in conjunction with VORDME's or NDBs!

so the intermediatel simmer doesnt have to learn complex procedures and run through a checklist, but the facility is more than there for any so called advanced simmer to hand fly the SID/STAR or manually enter via the MCDU

I got a couple of questions, one of you might have the answer! Will I be able to fly from the right seat?

and second question, I heard of an another forum that this Airbus would not have "push button" function. I am not sure what that means?

I'll pass on the first one, I'd have to check!

As for the second; the model does have the push and pull functions.

Push is when you enter managed flight ie follow the inputs in the fmc.

Pull is when the pilot manually controls the input for speed, heading, vertical speed.

No worries, Airbus X doesn't lack any vital functions. It is quite comprehensive for a lite addon.

Hopefully someone can answer point 1 or I'll check.

Reply to number #2... Landing by hand, isn't that what flying is about ;)

I really trust Mathijs as he said in previous posts that I am the ideal customer for the Airbus X.

But sometimes I have my doubts because 95% of all the posts here I completely don't understand what it is about.

Still I am willing to buy the airbus for now and I am looking forward to the release (maby within 1 week now).

Good morning.

I did have the same problem. Some people are real specialists here :-)

At http://www.fs-tutori...47_400_PMDG.php you can find a tutorial for the PMDG 747. If you don't have the plane, no problem

The tutorial is huge, because every (!!!) little step to prepare, flie and land the plane is described with a picture with arrows that points the right buttons.

He explains what you are doing and why.

The tutorial is free and after reading the tutorial, well maybe you're not the specialist here, but you know where they are talking about.

And you don't have any problem to understand how to fly more complex aircafts.

Eric
