Alice in Wonderland" director Tim Burton is set to produce a film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's mash-up novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, reported The Bookseller on March 3.

Grahame-Smith will write the screen adaptation of his novel, and Burton will apparently work with producers Timur Bekmambetov and Jim Lemur, with whom he previously produced the animated film 9.

Seth Grahame-Smith is the author of the widely successful mashup tale Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is currently being made into a film starring Natalie Portman.

In Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, he uses the same mashup of history and horror in a retelling of the life of Abraham Lincoln, beginning when the one-day US president learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator.

The book was published in the US on March 2 and is due out in the UK on April 29.

Mashups are not a new phenomena in literature. Probably the best known is the Bible...

The modern-day literary mashups are pretty much founded on the `steampunk` phenomenon. There's already a large volume of film devoted to the genre, directly or indirectly (`V for Vendetta`, `The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen` `Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow` and the new `Sherlock Holmes` being just a few examples) and it is a very important literary genre at the moment.

Personally, I like the idea of combining the historic with the notional, even the ridiculous. The ridiculous is given credibility by association, and the non-fiction is given new verve, hopefully sufficient to cause someone to want to learn more about the real facts for themselves. Hey, isn't that just what we do with Flightsim..?

I have a script in mind:

"Florence Nightingale, Kung-Fu Priestess". She kicks the crap out of the Russians in the Crimea, then makes them all better...:rolleyes:

Anyone for anymore..?

Why am I thinking of Santa Claus conquers the Martians?

John F. Kennedy and the Time Patrol?

George Bush and the Masters of The universe?

Elliot Ness vs the wolf man?

George Washington, Ninja assassin? Lets go with this one! Premise is that old George was a Mason, and the Masons are really a worldwide organization of Ninja-Wizards defending the world........

It could be thrown in that George Bush is also a Ninja, recently fooled into displaying his lightning Ninja-reflexes when some shoes were thrown at him........:lol:
