Bush Hawk re-paint help

Featured Replies

Hi, and hello.

In real life, I'm getting a Expedition E350 soon, which is the successor to the Bush Hawk. So naturally I'm flying the Bush Hawk in FSX... and by the way, it works great for me. But I'm fairly new to FSX and Bush Hawk is my first and very recent add-on. I downloaded the repaint example file for Bush Hawk, and having seen all those layers in the Photoshop file, its a daunting task to make repaints.

I want to create a look that will match my E350.

Its a paint scheme thats got similaries to one of the existing Yellow bushhawks in FSX, so I'd like to, if possible, use the existing yellow version as a starting point. So, two beginner questions, if I may:

- Is it possible to extract an existing paint scheme from the aerosoft files, as a starting point for changes?

- Can someone point me to directions, on how to take the finished, edited photoshop files, and put them back into FSX, so they work? I haven't found documentation about that yet.

I dont have the Bushhawk, but if you need some help I have a question

1: What paint program are you using?

I use CS4 from Abobe and also Paint Shop pro from Corel.

In answer to a few of your questions....

1: Yes you can use an existing skin, but it is always better to create it on a paint kit from scratch, from an existing skin is about twice as much work to change the design.

2: You can download the DTX addon from Adobe but just a note, the addon does not work in the 64 Bit PSP, so install it to the 32 bit version.

3: For compatability, when you save it in DTX5 for FSX, or DTX3 for FS9, uncheck all the boxes that say import or create mip maps, they tend to blur the finished paint jobs.

I hope this helps you out a bit..

Thanks Earl. I use Photoshop very well, (but an older version,7) and I use Canvas for editing smoothly curvy lines which I then import to Photoshop. OK. I've got that plugin now. I did a fair amount of reading on flightsim.com forum, and found more info about doing repaints, but I'm still confused, probably because I haven't actually tried any of it yet.

One confusion. The sample paintkit from aerosoft comes with different photoshop files for different parts of the plane. After I finish editing all those different files, do I save them as individual .dds files, or must they all be merged into one file somehow first?
